  1. I use the 1/8 audio out of my MBP all the time. Sounds great. No problems. I use a Novation SL MkII 61 and a Yamaha KX8. I like having a weighted keyboard for piano stuff and synth keybed for B3 and synth stuff. I completely agree...the keys on the Novation feel wonderful, as do the Yamaha's for piano. The KX8 is awesome, but not made anymore. It's a shame that the keyboard controller options are so lame. And yes, Automap is so not worth the bother with Mainstage. And I LOVE Omnisphere!
  2. Arpeggiators...that's one of the big missing features of Mainstage. You'll need to get a 3rd party synth plugin that has one in it. I use Albino and Omnisphere. Both highly recommended, but completely different.
  3. I use Omnisphere with Mainstage and yes, Omnisphere is a bit of a CPU hog. I'm running on a brand new 8 core 2.2ghz MacBook Pro with a SSD drive. Some of the patches hit the CPU pretty hard and get close to the limits. I don't think Mainstage is as multi-threaded as it could be. From what little I've used Reason with Mainstage, it hits the CPU much less. Even with the hard CPU use, I use Omnisphere because NOTHING sounds as rich. Nothing.
  4. Anyone have any success (or massive fails) using Automap from a Novation SL Mk II (or similar) with Mainstage? Tips? Gotchas? Thanks!
  5. Anyone know of a keyboard shortcut to have the current plugin go to the next or previous patch? When I'm looking for a particular sound and want to cycle through a zillion sounds quickly, it's a real pain to have to use the mouse/trackpad just to try the next patch in a plugin. Anyone? Thanks...
  6. Too bad. You can map controls differently on a patch by patch basis, so it seems that this wouldn't be too far of a stretch. Oh well. Thanks.
  7. I'm building a concert of all my "go to" patches...a bunch are B3 kinda things and a bunch are everything else (pianos, synths, splits, etc). What I want to do is have the B3 drawbars visible and working for the B3 patches, but not visible on the other patches that don't use a B3. Again, the idea is that this would be all in the same concert. Is this even possible? Some trickery? Thanks.
  8. Anyone have any solutions to the lack of arpeggiators in Mainstage? Thanks
  9. Hey there, I'm about to undertake a music editing gig for a small animated film. I don't have a surround set up at the moment and was looking for any advice on interfaces, speakers etc. I'm not sure if I'll be doing this long term or not, which makes me want to look for the cheapest workable solution for now. Or, is it even possible to work with a stereo playback system and still deliver a 5.1 mix? Any and all advice is seriously welcome. Thanks!
  10. I need some help from anyone with a Korg CX-3. I've been wanting to get a handle on Bill Champlin's excellent B3 sounds and read somewhere that he did some of the presets on the CX-3, the ones that begin with a "BC". Specifically: A4-BC Gospel1 B3-BC Lower Comp E5-BC Schnoz G1-BC Best Solo G7-BC Rock Solo H4-BC Best Full Would some very kind CX-3 owner take the time to tell me what the drawbar, chorus & percussion settings are on those 6 presets? I'd be very grateful. Thanks!
  11. I just did this the other day and it works great. In Mainstage, I made 8 rotary knobs and set them to controllers 110-117 and used Relative (Direction & Speed). On the Axiom, I set the knobs to CC 149 and Data 2 to 110-117. That works like a champ. Btw, trying to do this in Enigma in 10.5.2 was IMPOSSIBLE. I called M-Audio and they blame 10.5.2 for all problems with MIDI communication. I ended up just setting the Axiom settings right on the keyboard. Worked immediately. Hope that helps.
  12. So, I'm thinking about doing a gig where I'd be essentially replacing the guitar player. Laugh now... Anyway, I thought I'd try going through some of the guitar patch sounds in Mainstage as a starting point and opened the guitar concert template. The only problem is that all the patches are setup to take an audio input instead of a keyboard. No problem, I thought. So at the concert level, I added a keyboard controller and added a clean strat channel strip from EXS24 and routed it down Bus 32 and used that bus as the input instead of audio 1. All good so far.I can hear it. Even sounds good. I just can't get the sustain pedal to work. I added a sustain pedal in Layout and set it to Press/Release and 64/Sustain. It definitely is mapped and moves on screen when I press it. It just doesn't sustain the sound. What am I missing? Thanks
