  1. This might be a bit of overkill but AAF only supports MIDI 1 export of a single file. You'll need to export the MIDI files for the tracks separately in most cases and then remap them to the proper instruments in the new application. 9.2 Referencing and embedding MIDI files A standard MIDI file may be referenced from a composition and embedded in an AAF file as an auxiliary file, as described in Section 9. No more than one MIDI auxiliary file shall be referenced from a given composition. The MIDI file shall conform to the standard MIDI specification version 1. The AuxiliaryDescriptor::MimeType property shall be “audio/midi”. The beginning of the composition and the beginning of the MIDI file are assumed to be co-timed. The importing application shall parse the MIDI file, including tempo maps, to determine synchronization at further points in the composition. https://www.amwa.tv/downloads/specifications/aafeditprotocol.pdf https://www.amwa.tv/developers.shtml
  2. Actually it is both which is why they call it touch and chose not to distinguish. If logic is receiving channel touch (mono) then all keys will respond. If Logic receives Polyphonic Key Pressure/Multi-Aftertouch then only the key to which it is receiving will be affect as you would expect. Try for yourself and see. I realize this is a super old thread but in-case anyone else comes across this like I just did thought I would post. To my knowledge that feature hasn't changed in the 12+ years I have been using Logic.
  3. I completely agree, the whole way you calculate time at all in Logic and see selected time drives me nuts! I was so excited when they added the time view option with that note and clock in Logic 8, the old saying seems to apply, two steps forward and one back.
  4. One other thing I didn't think about was make my marquee selection with cycle on and then command+b for bounce and check the time there and don't bounce. Thought I'd post this just incase someone comes across this page in a search.
  5. That's perfect, thanks a bunch great to have the answer to that! It's interesting that tempo info can't be recorded in the file when displaying time in the main ruler, I get the logic but it seems like you could have your cake and eat it to. Thanks for all the help on that one. Also just to be certain you still need to need to have "Use Musical Grid" uncheck in project settings when using event float. I made a marque selection then click it to separate it temporarily to see the length and then undo it. This doesn't work across multiple regions since it just shows the length of the first region in the event float, so the first method is the best bet overall.
  6. Thanks Jordi, I was actually thinking more like how Pro Tools shows you your selection length based on your main counter. If it is on time than it shows start time, end time and selection length. The selection length is what I was hoping for so I could quickly see the chorus is 20 seconds, the song is 4:05minutes etc. The General tab in Project settings is actually a new setting in 10 that I hadn't really noticed yet so thanks.
  7. Is it possible to make a marque selection and see the selection length in time? I know I could do the math but a perfect selection is much easier than using the play position line.
  8. Thanks do you have a new link to this video, it appears to be broken.
  9. Wow I have never had Apple respond so quickly. This is great news and we even got piano roll link back to boot, I am a happy camper!!
  10. Good call, I just submitted the request and thanks for the reminder.
  11. Thanks PandaRiot, I'm happy to hear anything that might help with this. I spent sometime trying to hopefully AppleScript this but it looks like there is no standard way to reference the disclosure triangle from session to session. I was hoping to at least use the option clicking and have all of them expand or close if I could at least reference the first track stack. Oh well, here's to hoping Apple adds a key command.
  12. FWIW using the default key commands in Logic X if you make your marquee selection and then press pad 0 it will jump your playhead to the marquee selection then press pad * for "Record/Record Toggle" and your into record with preroll/count in if it's on. A little less cumbersome than control+page-up then "R". So thumb (pad 0) middle finger (asterisks on num pad) on your right hand and your rolling! Pretty darn close to the speed you have in Pro Tools and you keep the default key commands of Logic X.
  13. Strange mine is the opposite issue for me I want to turn off auto record enable when I select a track. I constantly switch between tracks with the arrow keys and view the inspector and change levels. When I am writing songs with someone I want to keep their track always armed and available for them to play. There seems to be no way to leave the sequenced track armed so MIDI passes to the instrument. The only work around I can think of is using the environment to route MIDI straight to his instrument (bypassing the sequencer) which I guess will have to be the work around unless there is a way to turn this preference off and lock an Instrument track on Armed when I select another Instrument track. I turn that behavior off first thing in Cubase since it is also the default there too.
