  1. Heres how you need to cable it. MPC MIDI OUT to COMPUTER MIDI IN (both ports if you want 32 channels (but you need a MIDI interface with more than one port)) KEYSTATION midi out to MPC MIDI IN TURNTABLE to PROFIRE (line inputs...) On the track on your MPC set it to MIDI and then define what channel and what port (1a 2a, etc..) You already said you watched my video but you should also get the template for logic http://briandelizza.com/Articles/articles.html The gist of how that template works is it takes your MPCs MIDI signal (all 16 channels) and splits it into the individual channels. Each channel is connected to a channel strip in logic. So when you send MIDI on channel 1 from your MPC it goes to the first channel strip. The MPC (at least the 2000xl) has 2 ports which will allow you to use a total of 32 different instruments. The Keystation needs to be routed THROUGH the MPC. Reason being is you are sequencing your MIDI info in the MPC and not in logic. In fact, most of the time logic will not be playing at all (unless you are syncing it with MIDI Beat Clock, but worry about that after you get this setup) EXS is not the graetest sampler FOR WORKING LIKE THE MPC (i'm not saying its a bad sampler, but you can't work as fast as with a MPC) I would HIGHLY recommend buying the plug-in phatmatik, it allows you to bring in a sample, chop it in seconds, and automatically map it to your keyboard. Not only that but each slice can have its own parameters (EQ, ENVELOPE. FX. etc..) save your self the headache and buy it, after you use it you wont go back to anything else (again assuming you want it to function like the guts of an MPC with the convenience of software.) are you talking about MIDI or audio?
  2. Yup. I use my smart c2 all the time as a limiter and it sounds amazing.... Like lagerfeldt said, there is a slight difference in function between a peak (brickwall) limiter and a limiter. I usually run some lite (sometimes heavy) compression on the 2bus, then either it goes for mastering or if not I limit it myself. The compressor glues it together, the limiter, well, you know....
  3. congrats. Do yourself the favor and shell out 20 bucks for the beatmaker app. It is insane (for being on a f*cking phone at least...) I made a track with it and was approached by a grammy winning artist to do a production with it. I made it on my phone. Completely ridiculous, we are in the "future"....
  4. I have not personally used one but I have heard nothing but good things about them.
  5. Compressors and limiters are not the same thing. Maybe you don't have a clear idea of what is the best unit to achieve what you want to achieve? actually in a way they are....
  6. I know there are no rules, but there are general ways to usually do things, and if you wanted to share your bricasti reverb on all your tracks you wouldnt be able to do it with fig 2. I was just pointing out the differences I wasn't saying you were wrong. That sucks that logic has hella problems with the I/O plugin, I've never encountered any.
  7. Makes sense to me. Figure two shows the ENTIRE SIGNAL being processed, which is what you would want from a dynamics based processor (comp, eq, gate, etc.) Figure one shows a COPY OF THE SIGNAL being processed, which is how you would set it up with a time based FX (reverb, chorus, etc.) One thing I would add to figure one though is using the i/O plugin on the bus track, this way you don't need to create a separate return.
  8. oh man if you had ableton live youd be done in 20 seconds. if you have reaktor check out sync skipper, that will take you about 10 seconds.
  9. or if you are ballin go glyph, but glyph uses seagates also....
