  1. Ok, I'm gonna say it, this is disturbing news to me. Having paid Adobe for the Creative Suite licenses for years, the subscription Creative Cloud (or is that Cash Cow?) was the end of that relationship. I still have several older perpetual license versions available. The Affinity products are a fabulous and tremendously cost-effective alternative. Bravo to Presonus for offering both subscription and paid lincense versions of Studio One, Notion, and other offerings. Having used other DAW over the years has only increased appreciation for Logic. I would not have made any noise if the updates and upgrades to LPX were for fee vs. for free. But a subscription is not going to be acceptable on this end.
  2. Good to hear that the PLC setting worked. Cheers.
  3. Not sure if this applies but I've had Drummer timing issues when Plug-in Latency Compensation is Off. (In my case recording external instruments results in tighter timing with MIDI and other audio tracks when PLC is off.) Set it to All or the other option and the timing is perfect.
  4. It's pure speculation, but my impression is that the Chord editor is a teaser of things to come. In a Logic Pro 9 update in 2012, "Articulation ID" entries mysteriously appeared in the hypereditor and event list. The functionality was incomplete. Questions swirled: What is it? How does it work? Look how that turned out.
  5. On an OS10.14 volume (in the 2021 Mini) with an SMF from DP9.52, LPX 10.4.2 File>Open yields correctly named markers and the tempo information.
  6. LPX 10.5.1 File>Open works perfectly fine here. No need to create a New file first. The DP 10.13 SMF opens in LPX with markers. LPX File>Open also includes the DP Conductor track information with any and all tempo changes in the Tempo track.
  7. I had forgotten about the option-drag technique but did locate the key command. Soon after posting, I noticed the more efficient solution, so removed my post. Option-drag is more reflexive and immediate vs. a ham-fisted key command.
  8. I stopped using Automap with my SL MKll some time ago. Two templates I set up work as intended - one for CC assigned to an external sound module, and the other assigned to Smart Controls.
  9. Yes! Fortify the EXS24 a bit here and there. I don't see Alchemy as a replacement for the EXS24.
  10. From the Propellorhead website https://www.propellerheads.com/en/reason/new?gclid=CjwKCAjwtajrBRBVEiwA8w2Q8KshEK6bFhczT03vHfcs0y_n-dNA5m7jhFuKXsk15BYLlt8FGNQHkhoCF4wQAvD_BwE For many years, I looked into this application, to compliment DP and later Logic. In my case, there just wasn't a compelling Reason to use it.
  11. For whatever, I experienced prolonged note release weirdness when using the Cubase chord track. Not so with S14.x. Fewer chord structures to select from but more rebust performance. Regarding chords, I acuired knowledge of jazz chord formulas and four string fingerings at age 13. Chord apps can be useful when restructuring audio and MIDI but aren't required for generating chord progressions here, fun yes, but not required. Having said that, at my age, a good refresher is always appreciated.
  12. Dewdman2, Thanks for posting this information. Let the numbers do the talking. I'll post an Energy Impact comparison of LPX, C10, and DP10 this weekend.
  13. I could have written this same post in the near past: workflow, appearance, features, and future-proofing. Even though Cubase now has a consolidated window, it still works better with a multi-monitor setup. The consolidated window works well on a single large monitor but I removed Cubase from my MBP. You can do everything you need to do in Cubase and I would argue that after establishing initial familiarity, it's score editor may have an edge on Logic's score editor. Cubase vs. Logic is really a flip of the coin based on preference. The obvious advantage of Cubase is being a cross platform app, and that may also be a disadvantage in terms of performance on Mac. I'm still not totally ruling out getting a budget PC for Cubase but I simply prefer Logic but like many, dislike Apple's pricing. Having said that, I do think the pricing of the 2018 i7 Mini is reasonable, and it's on my wish list for later this year.
  14. I can agree with you on this. Beyond that, it really is down to workflow preference. I like Cubase but really work more efficienty with fewer distractions in Logic. Yep, I also explored the hackintosh option. Agreeing with fisherking, the macOS (x) update issues you describe are not typical, none that I've ever experienced. Factors on this end that may or may not be at play: - Clean install before a new update. Sierra was the last one I did. I never used Migration Assistant as there are documented issues. - Leaving no leas than 25% free disk space on the boot or startup drive. - Use of Cocktail for maintenance, probably not necessary but I still use it. - daily reboot I do appreciate reading your posts which are always filled with useful information. Cheers
