  1. But the OP wants the visuals of the 16 pads whilst he's playing drums, and keys whilst he's playing keys. OP, afaik theres no way to change the layout per patch or set. You might just have to live with smaller representations of your controls on screen and have both alongside each other.
  2. I'd imagine if the OP has 6 outputs on each macbook a little mixer still won't be fast enough. Unless someone makes a 12 channel mixer with 2 VCA/DCAs or mute groups. But then the OP is still losing his 6 individual instruments to FOH. Is the easiest thing here not to assign two midi buttons on your controller as master mutes for each laptop?
  3. You are clicking and holding right? Not just a quick click...
  4. What you need to do is connect the audio outputs of your keyboard to your computer too, if that's what you're trying to achieve. When your friend says 'recording the pattern' he's right. Midi is just data, it basically tells your piano to play this note and this velocity at that time (and a lot more), which your piano does, but then you need an audio track to record this! Alternatively, you can load up a 'software instrument' channel and load one of the acoustic piano presets and then use your keyboards midi to trigger these sounds.
  5. Here's a little kind of showcase thing for the latest project I mixed. I also contributed to the drum programming and played the guitar solo on the first track [soundcloud]http://soundcloud.com/rialtosound/00-envelope-generator-preview[/soundcloud] Would appreciate any comments/criticism on the mix You can listen to the full album on the artists soundcloud page (and download it for free too!) cheers, Sam
  6. Thought I'd just update everyone with a better workaround that I've found. I already had soundflower installed but completely forgot about the 'soundflowerbed' app. So now I have waveburner set to Soundflower 2ch and then in soundflowerbed I have that routed to channels 31+32 aka firewire 'tape' in on the SL24. Whilst I'm quite happy with this workaround I'd still like to hear peoples thoughts on waveburner not recognising anything other than the first audio stream. Is this just something waveburner can't do?
  7. My audio 'interface' consists of a PreSonus Studiolive 24.4.2 and a PreSonus Firestudio mobile daisychained. This creates 42 ins and 32 outs. This creates 3 audio streams in audio MIDI setup. stream 1 Outputs 1-6 (mobile) stream 2 Outputs 7-22 (Studiolive 1-16) stream 3 Outputs 23 - 32 (Studiolive 17-26) I like to use the 2-track firewire return on the Studiolive as my main output from the computer, usually this would be channels 25+26, but with the FSM added in they become channels 31 and 32. In waveburner, when selecting my audio device and the outputs it only makes the first audio stream available to me, which is outs 1+2, 3+4 and 5+6. (the firestudio mobiles outs) If I remove the FSM from the chain then outputs 1 thru 16 on the Studiolive become available to me in stereo pairs in waveburners prefs, but not 17 thru 26. So, my question. How do I access outputs 31 + 32 in waveburner, on audio stream 3. Because currently I can't actually use it as I don't have the outputs of the FSM connected to anything, and don't want them connected to anything. I only use the FSM for the instrument inputs and midi connectivity. Please note changing the order of daisy chain or which unit is the master clock makes no difference, I currently have the studiolive first in the chain and the clock is the SL24s internal. Would really appreciate any help here as the only way to do it atm is remove the FSM from the chain and return waveburner into two channels on the first 16 channels of my SL24. Sam
  8. Have you made sure to create an audio track in logic and set the inputs to match what channels you're using on your interface? The external midi track will trigger your module but it still needs an audio track to record the sound!
  9. Sm58 is not a good mic. The only reason they're used/popular is because they're cheap, readily available and will survive some really rough treatment. You can put a 58 on a stage in front of a vocalist and you won't get any complaints from the majority of them, but they just don't sound very good. They sound acceptable sure, but they don't sound great. Especially for recording. But hey, if you get a great vocal sound out of it that suits you then props to you!
  10. Skype's a pain because it only deals with mono anyway. You're only going to get the left channel of soundflower unless you insert a gain plugin on the stereout and switch it to mono, but then you're sharing your mixes in mono, which depending on your situation probably isn't ideal. In order to speak to each other you could always just leave your output going through soundflower and actually create an audio track in logic and plug a mic into this (could even use your built in mic as the input), this will then also be sent to Skype along with the rest of your audio.
  11. Have a play with the different snap modes in the dropdown menu at the top of the arrange window. Perhaps one of them will suit you better than whichever you're currently using.
  12. Assad Ansari is a damn cool name on its own....
  13. What you're looking for is known as a "control surface". Cheap: Behringer BCF2000 Not so cheap: Mackie Universal Control pricey: euphonix built in 24 channel firewire interface: Allen & Heath GSR24m
