Yes, definitely. Just like babies learn to talk by imitating their parents or other people around them, we as artist learn to write by imitating artists we look up to.
You discover a lot while trying to recreate either a drum beat, a synth riff, a melody, a chord progression etc.
I remember when I started writing songs, I could come up with a verse and a chorus and quickly I got stuck. What do I do? Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Chorus? That's a bit boring? Then I started really listening to song's arrangements and even carefully picking them apart to tell how they could keep the song evolving while keeping it interesting throughout the entire song.
