  1. Eric…you’re super! you’ve solved my headaches several times now and your posts yet again solved my problemo!! I just had to go ahead and make the multi-timbral instrument, then delete instance 2-9 (for Play instruments, 2-16 for Kontakt ones). Then click on the plus button of the VST Instrument enough times to get sufficient Aux channels…route the Outs from Play/Kontakt to the Aux Channels and then Voila! oh…and “Multitimbral Mutes & Solos Killing my Workflow” was also very helpful! thanks very much for your time and thought! with much appreciation Peter
  2. Dear Logic X experts, How does one get Track Number 1 of a Multi-timbral Instrument to appear in the Mixer Window? I’m working on a orchestral template which is decent in size and intended for flexibility depending on the needs of a project. For reasons of clarity I would like all of my tracks to have a proper name. I’m starting at the top with “3Fl”, for 3 Flutes, one of my East West Key Switch Instruments. When I create a Multi-timbral Instrument in the Main-Window (formerly known as the Arrange-Window), the Track represented in the Mixer Window is either Track 2 or Track 9. This is problematic for reasons of proper naming of my Multi-timbral Instruments. I can go into detail here if this would help matters, but will leave my description succinct for the moment I’m sorry if this all seems like a trivial detail, I would very much like though for this template to be correctly labelled for ease of navigation. There are an additional 40 or so tracks which are in this template and I designed it with expansion in mind..so proper labelling would be very preferable! looking forward to any tips you might be able to offer - with MUCH appreciation for your time and thought Peter ps. I recently bought an Ipad 2 with which i occasionally use with ‘Logic Remote’. Perhaps this controller is messing with what appears in the mixer window on my Mac Pro? just an idea.. 3. thank you for posting this!! very kind that you take the time out to explain this in such detail!! 5 stars to you!!
  4. Dear Logic Experts, this question is directed at those 'power users' who need lots of RAM and processing power to use many sampler instruments at the same time. What is the deal with Logic X and using multiple computers for many sampler instruments? Logic Node does not exist any more with Logic X. So how does one go about doing this? I am a big fan of East West instruments, ie. the Play engine as well as instruments using the Kontakt player. I don't have any Vienna Instruments so the Vienna's 'Ensemble Pro' does not make much sense for me at the moment. Does Logic X's abandonment of 'Node' mean that one has to be reliant upon ONE computer for all sampler instruments? A colleague of mine used to also play his films on his laptop (i'm assuming he was connecting Logic 8 or 9) and use Logic and his sampler instruments on his Mac Pro. Ie..it’d be all ethernetted together somehow. I find it a bit hard to believe that Logic has completely made it impossible for one to use slave computers to spread the processing power around. Is this really the case? Is there any way around this? am i missing something? I'm sure there are a few 'pro' users in Hollywood who don't want to give up using 2 or 3 mac pro's at the same time just because Logic X doesn't let them. Doesn't this seem rather strange that Apple would precisely alienate these users? Especially now right before the release of the new Mac Pro? The idea of directly opening a orchestra template with enough muli-timbral tracks to have my standard instruments automatically open PLUS then the processing leeway to be able to open up quite a few more instruments without my computer having a heart attack seems very attractive. I am right now using a Mac Pro. 2 x 2.8 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (2008 3,1) (22 GB RAM). Yes, my computer is a bit old..so i guess my question is a bit hypothetical. And yes…i can still put 10 more GB of RAM in…which i will do sometime soon. Yes…i could go and buy a newer..probably used Mac Pro. But i figured..hey…wouldn’t it be nice not to have to sell my old one and just use it in tandem with a newer computer. In terms of bang for my buck (in my case bang for my euro ^^) I invested a lot of money in RAM…and would be rather bummed out to see that money get reduced to a very cheap EBAY-sell-off. I never bought Logic Pro 9 (so would be reluctant to now ‘try’ and buy LP 9 and downgrade just for Logic Node) and just went to LPX directly and would be very appreciative of any pointers you might be able to offer. Many thanks already in advance!! Peter Mac OS X 10.9 Logic X 10.0.4 ps. a couple of examples of what i am talking about… Kevin Kliesch for example does this here: not sure what DAW he is using. or Brian Tyler does this also…and i think he does in fact use Logic.
  5. i would continue to edit in Logic 8 but i've got this other problem with strange black colums appearing. (shows me for updating the OSX while working on a project!! ) and i figure after this project i will only use logic x so the logic 8 problem is then not so relevant...

  7. Thank you David for your reply I was expecting to hear a click by virtue of the fact that whenever i've editied audio regions in the past (Logic 8, 7, 6..as i mentioned i never bought logic 9) i've always heard a clip when i cut an audio region at a 'non-0-value'. I'm not sure if that's the proper term for when the wave form is not at a 0 value. But maybe you get what i mean? And this was how i always assured clean cuts when i'm working with audio regions from recording sessions. Perhaps Logic X has some kind of automatic 'take-out-all-unclean-cuts' fliter or something to this effect? Also...i've taken the same project file and tried to do the same cut in Logic 8...and i DO hear cut's when i take the scizzors and cut at a non-0-value. This is the way i've always cut audio regions...does anyone else do this in another way? So...i've got 2 screenshots from the Logic X project file. Thank you David for any input you might be able to offer and thanks to anyone else also who might be able to suggest something!!
  8. Dear Logic Experts! I’ve just found a bug i believe in Logic X. I was editing a CD with Logic Pro 8 (v.8.0.2) until last night when i updated to Mavericks and now there are weird black columns on the arrange page appearing. So i’m now continuing to edit with Logic X (i never got around to buying logic 9). My problem: When i cut a audio region i’m not hearing the cut’s even when i’m supposed to. I’m not sure how other people do this but when i cut takes from a recording session i look for where the wave forms go to 0 then i cut there. If it’s a clean cut then it makes no sound and if it’s ‘dirty’ then i hear a ‘clip. Right now i’m not hearing ANY clips even at places where i SHOULD hear a clip. WHY is this that i am not hearing these clips at all? It makes editing a cd suddenly very very difficult many thanks for your time and for any tips you might be able to give me!! 9. figured it out! it was the auto punch button… Sorry for the bother! ^^ Peter
  10. ok…i think i might have figured it out…the record button is flashing on and off in the above mentioned project. When i open up a new project and hit the record button it just stays on…and RECORDS! Now…how do I get this button to just stay on and not flash…any ideas? thank you for any help and sorry for this dumb question!! Peter
  11. Dear Logic X experts: I am having a bit of a ridiculous problem. I can't seem to record anything in Logic. I'm a long time user (but won't go and call myself an expert). And haven't had THIS problem for many years…but i am a bit baffled. My Software instruments are opened and of course also 'armed'..ie the R button is pressed. When I press "R" for Record (or even manually take my mouse up to the red record button and press it) the whole project starts trying to record from the beginning as opposed to where i presently am in the track…(which is quite annoying and has just been doing this today). And more problematic.. Logic doesn't record anything i'm playing in. I can hear the sounds of my software instruments.. I can hear the playback of other stuff I recorded/composed in Sibelius and then imported into Logic. But i can't record!!! Sorry for asking help on such a seemingly dumb beginners problem..but i'm a bit baffled here. One perhaps tell tale thing to mention is that on my Output Meter the right hand digit display has a red background. This is new and seems to be coinciding with my recording problem. Many many thanks for any pointers you might be able to give me!! Peter Logic X 10.0.3 Mac OS X 10.8.5
  12. Hey there dear Logic X experts, I've got an issue which is dumbfounding me and am hoping you experts might have some helpful pointers/suggestions. On my orchestral template in Logic X I've got 7 different Tutti-String sounds opened up. (I'm using the multi-timbral track option where they are all connected to one 'EW Play' Engine). On my 'score' window it takes up a LOT of room since they are all using treble-and-bass systems. My question: Is there a way to reduce those 7 Arrange/Score-Tracks down to just one, and to then per midi-channel-command, send the signal to the appropriate instrument? This is obviously something I'd like to be able to do on the fly..ie..have two measures of pizzicati and then go to Marcato or Sordino or whatever. So I'd be great if there'd be a way to do this which could be 'per pushing a button' or so. I've got a Doepfer LMK4+ 88 GH USB keyboard I'm using and I have to admit I don't use nearly as many options on it as I should - perhaps there's a way to do it with this keyboard? So essentially I'm looking for the most efficient way to make one arrange/score track act as a 'master' for 7 different midi channel Tutti-String sounds. Many thanks for any input you might be able to provide!! Peter ps..I'd look this up all my self and do the homework myself..but alas..i'm not even sure what to look up..! many many thanks!!
  13. heliihallo? What i'm after is essentially a Score Window where each instrument group (Woodwinds for example) can be packed into a 'stack' or a 'folder'. Alternatively they could also be 'un-packed' so that each instrument would be represented by one staff-of-music (ie, the 5 line musical system we use ^^). I figured that'd be an very useful complement for the arrange window where one CAN use the track stacks - which i find to be REALLY great. looking foward to any input!
  14. Dear Logic X Experts: Do you know of any way to use folders in the score window in a similar way to how in the arrange window i can 'create a track stack'? When looking at an orchestral page of music where only a few things are happening, i find this would be a much easier way of looking at the notes. Ie. instead of seeing: 3 Flutes 3 Oboes 3 Clarinets Solo English Horn Solo Bass Clarinet Solo Bassoon Solo Contrabassoon 6 French Horns 4 Trumpets 4 Trombones Solo Tuba All Percussion Concert Grand.nki Violin Solo Viola Solo Cello Solo Double Bass Solo Harp 70 Piece QLeg Sord 70 Piece QLeg 70 Piece Str Marc RR 70 Piece Str sec EXP 70 Piece Str Sec Pizz 70 Piece Str Sec Sus to be able to see the list below, and be able when i need it to open a relevant folder and see the specific parts inside. Woodwinds Brass Solo Stings Tutti Strings if i understand correctly, 'explode polyphony' is not quite what i am talking about. Thank you in advance for any pointers you might be able to give me! Peter
  15. Hi there Logic experts! I've got a bit of a confusion here… I'm looking in my library in Logic 8, and at the same time comparing the offered instruments here with the ones I can find in the following folders: Harddrive - Library - Application Support - GarageBand - Instrument Library - Sampler - Sampler Instruments and Harddrive - Library - Application Support - Logic - Sampler Instruments I'm making an effort now to catalogue my efforts of looking at all of my instruments. Ie. finding the actual files where the instruments are located - copying the names into a text-edit program - then describing the ones which i like in a text edit program. Trying to be scientific about it in an effort to save time down the line. MY PROBLEM: I can't find all of the Apple-Instruments (ie GarageBand/Logic) in the folders in my computer. I have looked in the places described above to no avail. There are, for example there are 32 different electric guitars in the Library in Logic 8. I can only find 12 in Logic's Sampler Instrument Library. Harddrive - Library - Application Support - Logic - Sampler Instruments - 08 Guitars - 02 Electric Guitars. Where are the rest of these instruments? They are also NOT in the Legacy folder or in the Garageband Sampler Instrument Folder. I have also tried searching for the individual instruments, for example the "Beatnik Guitar" which is referred to in the "Sculpture" Plugin as "Electric Guitar Beatnik". I've tried searching for "beatnik", "beatnik exs", "electric beatnik" etc etc etc….where are these phantom instruments?!?! many thanks for any input!!!! I really appreciate any suggestions Peter ps. i'm using Logic Pro 8.0.2 Mac OS X 10.6.8
