I have always just used the sampler and step written my drums, Thanks
  4. My newly installed quantum, w newest firmware,is listed under the audio devices for my imac and in logic preferences. The output is working great but can't get a signal to input when audio rack enabled to record, also created an aggregate instrument, still no input. 5. been inactive for years, have newest Logic Pro x on a new iMac and want to finish my old songs. old computer died but I have the drive dumped onto a Samsung ssd and old projects files still saved on external drives. I open old projects in new Pro x and tons of audio files are missing and my software instruments are silent or triggering different sounds and my self made "5 piece kit" is not in new Library. I find the 5 piece kit in my external drives as a audio file folder and and exe file, there are lots of copies there for some reason, how do I get these into my new Pro x ? thanks I'm VERY RUSTY on the whole software, thanks
  6. Hey will any iPad work for logic remote control or are there minimum requirements?
  7. Thinking of using macbook air ( hopefully an older cheaper model)for logic 10.6 remote instead of iPad simply because its bigger. Any minimum requirements? I assume it runs on bluetooth?
  8. I have a Personsus 16.4.2 mixer, output is firewire 400 to an 800 cable which worked fine on my 09 Mac Pro but it won't mount on my new 2015 iMac running high Sierra. I have it run into a thunderbolt 2 to firewire 800 adapter into an OWC thunderbolt dock but even if I run it straight into the computer thunderbolt input it doesn't show up. I have booted with the mixer on and off and turned mixer on while computer on. Help? thanks
  9. Don't my old songs search for them in a specific file?
  10. 11. If your looking for solos look no further than Brad Paisley, If you haven't listened to "country" lately it's more like Bonjov/Def leppard meets Eagles meets POP. try this one or any other Brad Paisley. Smokin! and you can still clarify the notes, hmmmmm? http://www.youtube.com/user/bradpaisley?ob=4&feature=results_main#p/f/3/tvdoKvHYxcA
  12. Hence, I restruct. instead of "Focusing on (in this order) the Message (lyrics), the Feel, the Emotion, the Groove, Melody and the supporting chords/harmonies and song structures seem to magically appear" I should have said, "Focusing on (in this order) the Message (lyrics) and the PHRASING of those lyrics, the Feel, the Emotion, the Groove, Melody and the supporting chords/harmonies and song structures seem to magically appear. Sing it like yolu'd say it.!
  13. I believe writing boils down to your intended Audience and intended outcome. In the 80's I wrote and performed the twisted artsy "Zappaesk" stuff and had a limited audience for it that went "WOW". After 30 years of writing and especially performing the most effective I have been at keeping the listener and having them Remember My songs and Hooks is the simple POP format and focus on the GROOVE. Most listeners are very simple minded and just want to have FUN and be Moved emotionally. David Gilmore said it best." If you haven't Moved anyone you haven't done Anything! that of course can be accomplished many ways. There are tons of chord substitutions that can happen over the same melodies the more avant garde they are, the more non basic 4/4 time signatures and dance/ballad Groove will usually change the style from POP/country/R&R to JAZZ or "musician's" music. The audiences for alternative music will always be significantly smaller even for the best players/singers in the world. That's why they call Pop, it's POPular. Addressing the original Q, beyond theory and mathematics it all comes down to EARS and being MOVED. What harmonies work? the ones that Help get us and our listeners Moved in the Soul. A famous country writer said "there is No Money above the third fret." KISS, Keep if Simple Stupid." Focusing on (in this order) the Message (lyrics), the Feel, the Emotion, the Groove, Melody and the supporting chords/harmonies and song structures seem to magically appear. Experimenting on UNWASHED Listeners will undoubtedly shift the writer's approach. There's more of Them than there are of us. Happy Hunting !

  15. I've been using a Kensington Expert Mouse (4 button trackball with scroll ring) for years and it just quit, I thought it best to ask the Logic users what they recommend. I have mac book pro and another cinema display and I do a lot of writing on the piano roll with drums, keys, horns, etc, any suggestions? thanks
