  1. You can always try searching this on the web: "Is there any way to recover files that were put in the trash and then emptied on Mac" I've heard there are ways to do it, so don't give up on a solution, there must be one.
  2. Well, it would be a fast test is the point... no need to install all the drivers for interfaces and plugins, just clone and try it out... You realize that Apple Silicon is much different than the old Intel machines, one of the big benefits was being able to clone a system and update just to try it out on an external drive without having to alter your Boot drive!
  3. Can you clone your system drive on to and external SSD and try out Sonoma also just to see if there are any key differences? BTW, thanks for posting your findings. I think I will try updating my 2018 Mac mini i7 and see how it behaves. I really wonder if it would run better under Sonoma compared to Ventura, despite so many manufactures recommending to wait...
  4. Welcome to the Forum Mitch, Did you read the above posts carefully? Earlier enossified posted this: "Justin and TChandler both told me there is an issue with 10.7.9 they are working on" So... There are serious issues with the latest firmware and 10.7.9 I'm using an earlier release of the firmware and it seems to work for the most part on 10.7.9 but I use Monterey still... I'm waiting to hear they got things fixed till updating myself, you could email Tech Support there, they respond quickly and are generally very helpful.
  5. Here is a thread about the issue: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/poll-mac-studio-m2-whine-noise.2392913/ Looks like the noise is being reported by about 20% of users on the MacRumors forum, so I would guess this is more of a problem with video editing, it's super rare the fans kick in using Logic Pro X and loads of plugins, but I guess it's still possible? One thing that I can say is that I had tried an M1 Ultra about six months ago and returned it. Apple has a very good return policy as long as you are quick to contact them about your dissatisfaction. I think they give you about a month to return it, but you know how these things go. Apple changes their policy all the time so don't quote me on it.
  6. Speaking from my own experiences, sometimes system overload spikes come from very specific plugins or specific processes not easily seen. I would open up Logic's CPU meter, look at the plugins your using in realtime, did you freeze the tracks or just bounce them? Maybe try right clicking on the track header and enable freeze, I think this would work even better because all the plugins on those specific tracks will get frozen as well, freeing up more CPU? I've often wished that the node function in Logic would work with newer machines, but obviously you can't have everything you want, there is always compromises with recording.

    external SSD

https://www.trebleet.com/product-page/trebleet-thunderbolt-3-to-nvme-m-2-2280-hard-drive-case-ssd-enclosure I've used these enclosures now for a couple years now... they have great performance for the money spent! I still wish there was a way to run external OS with M1/2 like on Intel machines because then you can have entirely different setups sharing the same computer, but looks like that option is gone for good. Anyways, these drives work great depending on what nvme drive you decide to use, the WD blue line work fine for me.
  8. Be careful to read all the reviews on the interface and pay attention to what reviewers say about software and hardware issues with your choice of computer. Just looking now I read that the Apollo Solo sounds great but there is an issue with the computer going into sleep mode. I tend to read the negative reviews first, see what really ticks people off about the interface. I would read all the reviews on Google and check professional use as well, do professionals use this platform and what do they have to say about it?
  9. Hello David, Thank you for asking, I do have a second unit that is still factory so I can A/B them. I did just try that on headphones and to be honest there is very little difference until the music plays out on the Focal Alpha 80's I have. I do notice more bass and the mid range does seem to have a tiny bit more depth, but indeed it's much more subtile that one would expect. So to answer your question am I happy with the modification and do I truly notice a difference, Initially I was happy with the mod but now that you put me to the test I will have to do some more testing and get back to you. So far as recording a room microphone with a Native American Flute, I notice hardly any difference at all. The big test will be Bass guitar, I will let you know later my results. So far I would say it's not a big difference at all.
  10. Not on your list but Focusrite Clarett+ would be a good choice also, the mic preamps have won "best mic preamp" category in Sound on Sound's 2023 annual award. I've been using the original Clarett 8preX since late 2015, got a modification done by Revive Audio and can vouch that they are great units with low latency for tracking w/plugins...
  11. I've used Mojave for years also, I really like it simply for the fact that 32bit Legacy plugins will still work under Logic 10.4.4: The jump over to Apple Silicon is not a small one, it takes a great deal of time and energy to make the switch. Night and day comparison actually in terms of performance, depending on your musical needs of course? No regret making the transition, it's performance is staggering compared to the 2018 Mac mini I use and does the double duty of making thunderbolt interfaces I own soar to new heights never before possible.
  12. Yes, for recording and production this is true, but what remains to be seen is the newer 3nm computers, I would imagine we might get a real bump up in speed at some point?
  13. You could buy Gigperformer on the Plugin Alliance website, you save about a third of the cost. The issue there is that they don't update nearly as fast as the gig performer website does, but they do come.
  14. Cool Idea! How about GigPerformer? Looks like it might fit your needs? https://gigperformer.com/the-recorder/
  15. You can connect with USB from the Mac to the iPad also, maybe that works better?
