  1. New burn plays, First burn does not. Both will save 'as quicktime movie' to my desktop.. and plays from there. Anyway, take this with a grain of salt, as I am not orchestrally trained. The strings have a pan alteration (R then L) on the attacks. Might be fine at mid-range distance f/ speakers, but on my monitors is too prononounced and unrealistic. Unless the string section is on 2 separate sides of the stage. Strings are bit too heavy / in ya face - compared to the open feel of rest of instruments. Less volume, more space. Good Work
  2. You mean a physical CD? IMHO. There is no way (software or other) to determine how many times it (CD) has been put in a discman/ getto blaster/ car stereo/ computer/ hifi/ cdj and been played. Once an audio CD is written/ burned that is it (multi session CDRW excluded). No further data is added or tagged to the CD. itunes will 'remember' (sorta like cookies on your browser) if you have put a CD into the mac, but it cannot determine how many times your little brotha played the CD on his pioneer CDJ to his gfriend at a house party.
  3. Couple options. Both will require you to export the appleloop to an aiff/wav file. Select your appleloop region you want to manipulate/ slow down. Then select your export option (top menu bar) File-> Export -> Export region as audio file. Choose to export in your Project folde, in a subfolder, so all your files are neat and tidy. (makes it easier to backup a project/ take on the road later) Lets just call this file 'Suspect.aiff' for ease. #1 Now.. Pull/ Drag Suspect.aiff into logic, Arrage page on the same audio track as original appleloop. Duplicate loop. Make a bakupcopy for safekeeping (logic menu bar ->Audio->make region new audio file). Mute/ delete original appleloop. Now... open Suspect.aiff' in audio editor (double click the audio regio or press W) Now in the audio editor window, open the Timestretch functions Factory -> Time and Pitch machine. Set the new tempo or pitch you would like and logic will stretch/ shift Suspect.aiff. See how it fits. Remember - anything you do in the audio editor is Destructive editing... so once done, well.. done. Hence.. the backup. Option #2 Slow loop down.. more DJ style Create new instrument track Open an EXS Open EXS editor.. -> new instrument Pull Suspect.aiff' into the EXS Have it pitched at C3 (so loop plays normal with that key - just an eg, any key will do) Save the instrument. hit a key (say.. C3, or whatever you set) Now... On your midicontroller (or in Automation) Move the pitch up/ down to match your song.. Loop will slow down, but so will pitch. Hope that helps
  4. Logic 7 and 8 can coexist on the same computer. They do so here, just fine. They are separate apps. For Logic 7, you will need your dongle for authorization. Never tried to install 7 after 8 though. If in a pinch... you could always set up a seperate user profile (system prefs ->accounts). Login as that new user... Install Logic 7, open up old project (prob a version 5 or something eh?), save as new logic 7 version. Then drag/ copy project to the Drop box of your other (Main w/ Logic 8) user. HD-> Users -> main profile-> Public->Drop box. Quick, dirty but should work if in a rush to bypass the trouble shooting!
  5. I was in a similar boat (academic 7 -> LP8) so I'll lend a hand.. #1 - Bakup Bakup Bakup. Bakup everything, to a seperate (external) drive. You can just do all your files (All your Logic Projects, presets, preferences, templates, etc) - or if use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the entire drive if possible. After bakup - put drive in a safe place. #2 - Logic 8 will overwrite some sample files (from aiff format to aifc). This will not affect you if you are only using Logic, Soundtrack etc, as they all read aifc file NP. Some apps have not been updated to open/ recognize aifc, but it is easy to convert them. Overall not a problem.. just a Pita sometimes. #3 - Install your upgrade to Logic 8. Kiss your Dongle goodbye! I think mine might still be plugged in... oops! #4 - check you have all the content, as the Logic 8 installer is a bit twitchy. Sometimes some appleloops are not installed, etc. There are a few threads in LPH about this, Search, Search, Search.. Overall.. not a problem. Just Reinstall if content is missing. None was in my install. #5 - Logic 8 removed a bunch of good presets from instruments & channel strips.. and did not include all the Legacy (Logic 1-7) presets either. At least 2 threads at LPH have them to download, with instructions to install http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=14586 http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=14541&highlight=settings+channel+legacy Say thanks to the gods of LPH - They rock! #6 - Open an old project. Save as a new version (in Logic 8). Have fun. #7 - if anything messes up.. np. Relax. You have the bakup. and Logic 7 will still run - it is a distinct app. Logic 8 is a completely different app.
  6. Check these 2 threads (there a couple more in Tips & Tricks) Contain downloadable Legacy presets & channel strips. logic 7. Instructions on where to place on HD as well. Enjoy http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=14541&highlight=settings+channel+legacy http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=14586 [/url]
  7. Used to get it quite often.... Every time I opened a song to work on (regardless of size/ track count) Mid way thru a session.. even just going to get coffee & back = system overload Added more ram... may more than even the 3 gig maximum accesed by Logic (not including EXS). After over doubling by ram from 3gig to 7gig... Voila.. a rare..overload.. Usually when trying to choose a new multi patch in RMX while a song is playing too.
  8. Also.. check out Coolbook ... http://www.coolbook.se/CoolBook.html Helps some ppl Alot!
  9. used to happen on my G4 1.67 ghz powerbook. I just bought a couple ice-cube packs 12" x 16". keep 2 in freezer, 1 under the computer. When it melts.. swap out. Cheap work around. Way more effective that just more air, when my laptop turned into a toaster oven.
  10. Look at this for drum programming in Logic (like matrix) http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=4457&highlight=ultrabeat+hyper+editor Can use with any instrument, but EXS and Ultrabeat are the built in Drum Samplers. Makes programming really intuitive on Logic. Logic should have no problem using your SPD 6 to control those instruments, so when you hit a pad, your percussion sounds (mapped to notes) will play Dont know about the Score Editor - sry
  11. Thanks David... I should have know there was an easier way than manually downloading and sorting all those presets... Dohh
  12. In my upgrade - all the samples/ content was loaded correctly (or at least I have never chosen a preset and gotten a 'missing sample error'. But.. Many of the presets / legacy instruments (logic 4,5,6,7) where not listed in the preset list of each instrument and/ or channel strip. LPH to the rescue! Do a search Enter ' Legacy ' into the text field Choose 'Plug in and Channel Strip Settings' in the Forum field at least 4 really big threads will show up.. all containing downloadable presets and channel strips (with instructions on how/ where to put into your macs file structure so LP8 will see them). Been as source of fantastic expansion to the modern LP8. Remember.. once your done Backup Backup Backup
  13. Do you mean HyperEditor ... or HyperDraw? If HyperEditor, you might have a HyperSet selected that has those CC# labeled. Check out these threads - especially on how to make your own HyperSets. Once you've got them set up... it rocks. But... when it goes wrong.. equally bad. Logic Instrument Hyper Sets: http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=12968&highlight= Make your own Hyper Set: http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=62409#62409 Could help... Sry - daddy dutys call.. Peace!
  14. Similar machine here. Similar results sometimes. This is normal. But you can balance the load on your cores through various methods. Great LPH thread on this below: http://logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=31725 If you've got a track with a heavy instrument and effects - all that processing has to be done on a single core. So depending on how you build your tracks (inserts vs send efx, aux busses & submixes vs all processing done per track) - your load could spike on one core, with minimal hit on another.
  15. The hyperdraw 'pitch bend' sends midi data +or -64. Zero being no pitch bend at all (default). Each plugin / synth will respond differently, and many allow you to set the range of the pitch bend, eg. 1,2, or multiple octaves. That way you can fine tune how precise or broad you want your bend to be. Some plugins will show Semitone steps instead of param numbers (+-64).
