  1. ....I am now beyond help and the proud owner of an iPad 2. Rather than hijack this thread I'll share my findings and thoughts in a new thread - It does relate to Logic and so may help folks. Very glad to hear your joy in finding a Liquid Grooves solution. I'm just going to wait for Spectrasonics to update their products for Lion before I switch to Lion. Awesome, I'll look for your thread! I haven't balanced in an iPad 2 upgrade yet (too many projects going now), but it'll happen someday.
  2. Hey Guys, Some feedback on the original subject.... Summary:All looking good... Nigel, I took the approach with making a CCC of the entire Snow Leopard system onto an external Firewire drive, updated it to Lion, booted from it and brought up the Firebox Mixer, launched iTunes - Good so far. Then to Logic Pro, all good! - And with the song with Liquid Grooves. I thought that an upgrade from Snow Leopard rather than a fresh install of Lion might preserve any prefs better than starting from scratch. Took me a few hours, but went without a hitch. On to a great weekend! Thanks Nigel, and everyone else with the nice side bars on this thread!
  3. Resistance is futile..... especially if you use one for an hour or so... There is no going back once you get hooked... so, my advice is not to look at one, touch one or try one... then, and only then, might your resolve remain strong...... ....This forum is supposed to be a place to get help! LOL - I better cancel my lunch with a friend who has bought an iPad 2 and wants to sell his iPad 1. The iPad 1 is a fine unit. I like using OSC as a remote controller for many reasons. But you can also use OSC on an iPhone or iPod Touch if the iPad is out of the picture. This probably doesn't help your iPad wants.
  4. I like it even though it's a few years old. The newer RMX interface came out a few years later, but I haven't checked that out yet. I have heard good things about RMX.
  5. Wow, and both of your avatars are cool! You must have interesting music 2.
  6. Nigel, Thanks for the great feedback! I'll go ahead and try the ccc route as it seems to be the easiest way to test everything out, That Presonus "thing" does seem sketchy. I could in fact test that one with my Lion VM ahead of time as I think Fusion 4 will support FireWire pass thrus. ~ Adam
  7. Hi, I'm a super conservative type when it comes to new Apple OS's.. I upgraded to the latest Logic Pro and got Lion, but only loaded up on a VM Ware Fusion virtual to get a feel for it.. I have this 1 song I'd like to work on that has a Spectrasonic drum track from Liquid Grooves on it, and I'm wondering if anyone knows how compatible these EXS instruments are with the latest Logic, and Lion? I am sort of concerned about my Presonus Firebox also.. Anyone run into any glitches with any of these? Thanks! Adam
  8. Set up was seriously easy. Blinked my eyes and it was done. With all these iOS devices sitting around I thought it was worth a try. I wonder if there's a touch sensitive midi keyboard or combo with drum pads for the iPad anyone recommends? Sort of off topic, sorry......
  9. Down and "done dirt cheap", I got the TouchOSC. Seems to be working just fine. Not as fancy UI wise, but on either my iPhone 4 or iPad 1, it works just fine. I wouldn't rule out any of the others mentioned though
  10. Hi, I've been a long time waiting due to so many other non-music related projects web/iphone, etc. And I'm just getting around to evaluating weather to upgrade from LP 7 pro. Is it a ridiculous no-brainer, and I should just do it? I do happen to notice either some ports of functionality over to garage band, and quite frankly like this latest step by Apple with GarageBand for iPAD. Sort of re-invented the portable 4 track (remember those tascams or fostex units!)..... Anyway, I know this is subjective, but..... Thanks, Adam
  11. >When I start to record audio the first thing I notice is that a save as box pops up (could >this be a fail safe thing in Logic) and then after that's out of the way a bar comes up >saying that I'm recording and that I only have 15 mins left of recording time. If you don't intentionally set the Audio recording path prior to the step above, you'll get this dialog. I'm not at my G5 right now, but you can definitely find it. I believe there's a check box in the prefs where you can say to put all the audio files in the same folder as the Logic song file also. Bottom line, Logic is just wanting to know where to put the audio files. Also, yes there is a place you can set how long the longest recording can be. It's not pre-determined by Logic based on your disk space available. Also if you ever get into recording long pieces of music, or piecing together songs into one you'd definitely have to change this. Or Scoring to Video. Adam
  12. I actually made a mistake... Forget I said Environment... (long week) It's the Audio Configuration screen. if you press the #9 Key on your keyboard, you'll get to the Audio Configuration screen set. Then click on the little "view" menu, and select "I/O Labels" you'll see a bunch of columns of information. CoreAudio, Drivers I/O Label, Long I/O Label, and Short I/O Label. The Drivers I/O label column represents what's on the MOTU. Here's where you can edit what you'll see in the Channel Strip when you select the drop downs. You change it by simply clicking on the radio button next to the column "Long I/O Label" or Short...... OR if you have the radio button next to the "Drivers I/O Label", then it'll read just like what it says.. EX: Input 1 could be "Mic / Guitar 1", or something like "Pre1", or whatever you want to call it. I hope this isn't too confusing. I learned all of this from the book: Advanced Logic Pro, b David Dvoorin, chapter 2. It also has a hand section on creating a separate headphone mix. ~ Adam
  13. I've got the same set up as you, and in the end it'll help you to eventually go into your environment screen, and look at all the labels, and you can actually re-name the ins and outs to correspond to what's on the Motu. I sort of had some confusion as well, but it's kind of easy once you get it. The Mic/instrument inputs on your MOTU front are in's 1 & 2, the ins on the back of the unit continue from there as 3, 4, 5, 6, etc... All of my guitar/mic work get's plugged in the front, and my master keyboard input is 3 & 4. Let me know if this helps
  14. Jay, As for #1, that's what I was thinking, but I'm sure it has its merits.. But my system seems to be stable enough to get me from point a to point b. If I went into my garage I'm sure I could dig up a Hi Fi VCR, but I think I need more Monitor real estate at this point. #2 Makes a lot of sense for you given your background and proximity (have access to some of the best musicians, orchestras, etc..). When I was in NYC for the earlier part of my life that would have made sense in terms of scoring and pulling off the sessions. I'm currently in a not as accessable city so I'll have to work more "in the box" for the forseeable future. But that's neither here or there. Thanks for the perspective Adam
  15. This is a great collection of questions and answers.. RE: #7.... What are the thoughts on the street regarding this? Is it wiser to go with an "old fashoned" hi fi vcr to sync music to video/tape? I've just begun in this realm and have been using some of the Official Apple learning books (Dvorin, Sitter), and it appears to be performing ok. Some oddities, like the Quicktime move window disappearing, and it taking a frequent number of clicks to get it back, but overall I can get a bunch of audio tracks going... I've got a G5 Dual 1.8 (2 gigs ram). Thanks for your feedback!
