  1. The MainStage 3.1.1 release notes state: When more than 10 Drum Machine Designer patches are loaded, all channels show their associated sub-channels Is this just an error on Apple's part (referring to Logic, Maybe?) or is it actually possible to run DMD in MainStage after all?
  2. My 491MB update finished then a 1.05GB update instantly started downloading - guessing it was a little glitch (which got my hopes up!).
  3. I have to say, my experience is quite the opposite, but maybe I'm not pushing my system as much as some. I've basically put very little effort into setting up patches, yet been able to gig with total confidence that the system can cope with everything I throw at it. I just took a notion one day to replace amps, pedal boards and my mixer with my studio Mac Mini. I run my guitar signal through one channel, guitar synth through another, then I feed the keyboard player's audio, bassist and 2 vocal mics through another 4 channels. I use a Korg nanoKontrol to mix on-stage and a Rig Kontrol as my guitar pedal board. It's a solid, compact rackmount setup which never gives me any trouble during 3 hour gigs. That's with all my guitar tones and synth sounds being produced via plugins, and processing for keyboards, bass and vocals. The only problem I had early on, was the MIDI mapping to my Rig Kontrol. It turned out to be a simple conflict with Guitar Rig assignments. All-in-all I'm very impressed!
  4. I've not used it yet, but this free plugin looks like it might solve your problem: http://www.audiocr.com
  5. I usually map my pedal to both wah on/off and frequency then set the off value to zero, and the on value to 1 (instead of 127). All it means is that I have to make sure the pedal stays above zero whilst I use the wah. As long as your pedal's calibrated properly, it should be effective enough. I'm using a Rig Kontrol as opposed to the FCB. Sorry if that's what you're already doing - wasn't sure!
  6. Would Melodyne help? Seems like it might be able to separate the echoes as 'notes' even if they are the same pitch. Extra cost 'though. Just a quick suggestion that I've not really thought out! EDIT: Nope, just gave it a quick try and that seems to be a waste of time. Sorry - must be the tinnitus from tonight's gig affecting my brain power! lol
  7. To be honest, I'm fine with that too. I guess that the whole App Store 'model' is just going to take a bit of getting used to. I don't think it's a bad thing but I kind of feel like it's an odd time to bring Logic to the App Store. It's not like I need anything new, but Logic Pro X feels close! lol Time will tell...
  8. This is purely speculation and guesswork but, since Apple introduced the Mac App Store, a few products have shifted from one major version to another without any additional charge. I'm thinking mainly of Pixelmator which went from 1.x to 2. Pixelmator's sales seemed to go through the roof with their reduced pricing and I certainly didn't mind paying for the App Store version which allows me to install it on all my Macs. I'm wondering if, since Logic 9 has been out for so long, and we're probably due LPX in the next 6 months or so, Apple might decide to release LPX as a free update for 9 from the App Store. As I say, totally speculative, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me. Either that, or they might introduce an upgrade facility to the App Store. On another note, it seems a little crazy that there's no way to shift your boxed version serial to the App store. I bought Final Cut Studio for Motion so when Motion became available on the App Store, I sold my boxed FCS for quite a good price as people are always on the lookout for legacy boxed software to use on pre app store capable machines. I think there'll be a bit of a market for selling our boxed Logic Studio/Express for people on older systems. What do you guys feel might happen? (I know nobody outside of Apple knows ) Edit: Sorry, I managed to post this in the wrong section!!
  9. Thanks Nigel, they look very promising. The reviews and specs I can find are quoting <1ms latency which is a lot better than the 100-200ms I'm getting with the RS170s! Now it's a case of tracking them down in the UK. Thanks a lot!
  10. Hi, Over the past year or so I've been using a Line 6 G30 wireless guitar system and, to my surprise, it's been a revelation in the studio as well as live. I absolutely love being able to move about the room to all my gear without getting tangled up in cables. To me, it sounds 100% the same as using my guitar with a cable. In my living room, I use Sennheiser RS170 headphones for watching TV at night without disturbing my Fiancée or the neighbours. They sound fantastic so it got me thinking about how great it would be to go completely wireless in the studio for late night tracking sessions. The problem is, the RS170s have way too much latency to work with. So I'm looking for an alternative with no latency so I can track at night and be able to move freely between my guitar, keyboard and electronic drum kit. I'm really not too worried about accuracy as I'm just interested in going wireless for writing - I prefer to use my KRK monitors for mixing anyway. I don't mind hyped, bassy headphones as I get a bit more inspiration from a full sound but it would be nice to have something that doesn't suffer from interference. I'm not sure about different digital wireless headphone technology, but it seems to me, if it's possible to have a flawless wireless guitar signal in the G30, a similar technology must exist for headphones. Thanks for any advice - Cheers!!
  11. The Drive that came with the MBP was a 250GB Apple-branded Fujitsu 5400. It's a late 2008 2.5 MBP so I'm not sure what they've been using since. I replaced it with the Toshiba 500GB 5400 which is the one I had the problems with. An identical Toshiba was OK so I assume the original was faulty in some bizarre way. I've not had the seagate in for long but I only just commented to my fiancée how surprised I am at how quiet it is. I'd say there's a little more heat than the 5400s I've tried. I've been running logic a fair bit and notice that the computer stays warmer a while longer after quitting Logic. I don't really use the MBP on battery very often so I'm afraid I couldn't really comment on that side of things. It's a fair bit of hassle to fit a new drive to be honest but it's definitely worth it. You need to make sure that you have a good sharp T6 Torx 'star head' screwdriver as there are about 4 of those type screws to remove (in the late 2008 model anyway). Just for giggles, I'm copying my 160GB Mac Mini drive onto the 'faulty' toshiba 500GB just to see if it works in there. I couldn't find my Leopard MBP install disc but the Mini has leopard on it so I'll be able to check if there's some sort of OS issue.
  12. Hi Mint, I put a seagate 500GB in - model number is ST9500420AS bought it from ebuyer - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/153103 I've not noticed a huge difference whilst video editing etc. compared to my working Toshiba 5400 drive but boot/load times and general usage is definitely improved. I'm sure I'll benefit from the extra speed when I start pushing it more and it makes my MacBook Pro that little bit more future-proof.
  13. Hi guys, Thanks for the feedback. I would've posted back sooner but it's taken me days to get things back up and working after various re-installs. I think the drive must have been faulty as I tried using an identical drive I had and that solved the problem. I tried re-installing Logic, then Snow Leopard then spent a few days looking for my original MBP leopard install discs with no success. In the end I pulled the other Toshiba 500GB from my media centre Mac Mini and it worked fine. I needed the media centre drive back so I've put a new 7200 seagate into the MBP just in case I ever need the extra speed. I'm still really confused as to how file copying, video editing/playback and benchmarking all showed the drive as more than capable, yet Logic couldn't get it to perform fast enough. Could have been something on the drive's controller I guess but never mind, it's all fine now! Cheers.
  14. Thanks triplets, I know what you're saying but it seems strange to me. I know that the drive can provide a sustained 25MB/S yet Logic is requiring a mere 7MB/S and can't seem to cope. That, along with the fact that my far less powerful Mac Mini can play these projects flawlessly, is what's confusing me. I'm using the MBP for video as well and it's coping fine with that. I got a great price for my Mac Pro (more than I paid for it) and I don't regret selling it 'cause I know my Mini can cope with anything I need Logic for. I now just want to use the MBP at times when I'm chilling on the sofa or working in my shop. Cheers
