  1. Wow, thanks, jordito! In two sentences, you've really solved pretty much everything I've been trying to fix for a long while. Is there any way to have new tracks automatically come up in Touch mode? Right now, I have my template set up so that my first track comes up as Touch, and then I can do New Track with Duplicate Settings from there, I guess. Is there any way to quantize the information input from knobs/sliders? Thanks again!
  2. Is there anything that I could clarify better? Is there a general direction anyone could point me in? I need to get this resolved in order to finish important projects, so it's somewhat urgent. Thanks in advance.
  3. Whenever I record a track, Logic is failing to recognize any self-assigned, non-note MIDI data. Anything input from my pitch/mod wheel is coming through just fine on playback, as it's already embedded in the patch. Things like aftertouch (except for in Sculpture, where the aftertouch message is already assigned to a parameter) and my assignable slider are working (meaning, it alters the sound while I'm playing) but nothing is getting recorded or coming through on playback. I am using a Yamaha DX-11 as a controller. I know this is an issue with Logic, as nothing I am assigning to my Novation Remote Zero is being recorded either. It all works while I'm playing, so it's not a hardware issue. Here is what my Learn Mode Controller Assignments window looks like. I am assuming I need to change something in this. When I set "Channel Strip" to "Output" or "Master," a green bar with the visual information appears on my track in the arrangement, but the alterations I made with an assigned knob/fader/aftertouch still do not sound in playback.
  4. Eesh, triple post. This must be some kind of crime. What I mean is, let's say I have a knob at position X. I play back what I've just played with the track armed and recording, then twist the knob all around for the duration, leaving it at position Y. What I'm left with, when playing this back (not recording) is just what I played but at position Y the whole time (none of my knob-work comes through), even though I see the extra track full of little white lines. Um, this is quite hard to explain. I'm sorry. The sooner I can get this worked out the better. I have a project I'm trying to get completed by tomorrow, but I don't know if that can happen. Thanks in advance.
  5. I should add that my pitch and mod wheels are both recording. It's just the input devices (sustain, breath controller). I doubt it's an issue with the hardware, as it works while I'm recording; it's just not showing up in playback.
  6. I've finally decided to cave and ask this question, at the risk of coming off as a fool. When I record something, and then play it back, I am only hearing the notes I played, their velocities, and sustain pedal input. Anything I do on my expression pedal, my breath controller, knobs, faders, etc. does not get recorded. Upon playback, it allows me to tweak the sounds with the pedals, knobs, faders, etc., but it still does not "save" as part of the recording. It's always just notes/sustain. Until I add it to my sig: MacBook White, Logic 9.0.0, Mac OSX 10.6.7, Yamaha DX-11, BC-1, M-Audio EX-P & SP-2. Some other stuff that's not relevant here.
  7. Wow, and even the DX-100 I'm thinking of buying to be my portable MIDI controller (good because it's battery powered, and all I'll need is a USB to MIDI cable) has the same +1/Yes -1/No buttons. I can keep the same environment!
  8. You're very welcome. Um... I was just testing you to see if you were paying attention in class. OK, please revisit the original post and re-download the new (and corrected) file I just posted there (version 1.1). Incredible! Works perfectly! This will make life so much easier for me. If you had told me Logic could get the +1 and -1 buttons on my 1988 synth to shift octaves up and down, I'd have said you're crazy! This has brought me much joy. Thank you x 10^99! Now I am wondering what else can be accomplished through environment manipulation...
  9. Utterly amazing! Thank you! I had no idea this could be done in a way that was so easy for me. I suspected you'd tell me how to do it, not do it for me! It's nice to know there are people in the world who are eager to help a stranger out of plain goodness. I truly appreciate it. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but the increment button is currently making the octave go down, and the decrement button is making the octave go up. If there's no quick fix for this, I can work around it. Thanks again!
  10. Thank you for your reply, ski. They are indeed CC#s 96 (inc) and 97 (dec). I've checked with Logic, as per your request.
  11. I would actually love to know how to do number 2 here. The Yes/+1 and No/-1 buttons on the synth that I am using as a MIDI controller (Yamaha DX-11) are capable of sending MIDI messages (I know, as I had assigned them to pan up and down), and I need to assign them to octave up and octave down, respectively. I am using Logic 9, Mac OSX 10.6.7, and am using an M-Audio Fast Track Pro as an audio interface. (Bear with me; trying to abide by forum rules.) Glad I did my research before posting a new thread. I hope this gets noticed, as it's something I've been trying to accomplish for a long time.
  12. Ah, I see. I thought I'd spare excess information because the vast majority of forum readers (not necessarily here but elsewhere) can't be bothered to read long posts. I'm using a Yamaha DX-11, and Logic (8.0.0)'s little MIDI I/O-ometer is reading the message whenever I press any of the 32 preset buttons... so I believe they should be assignable. The data entry slider can be/has been used to control MIDI as well. I also have a Novation Remote Zero MKII (which really makes me want to upgrade to Logic 9, based on the AutoMap integration). I would like to assign the transport controls to the Novation and the program changes to any number of the preset buttons on the Yamaha. I'd also like to know how to assign transport controls to the Yamaha's preset buttons in the case that I'm using a minimized studio (like on an overnight stay where I don't want to bring the whole studio along). For what it's worth, I'm using Mac OS X 10.5.6 (MacBook White) and an M-Audio FastTrack Pro. Thanks for your information thus far.
  13. Simple question: how do I go about assigning transport controls and program changes to the MIDI-assignable buttons on my synthesizer? I fully understand Learn Mode in terms of controlling software synth parameters, but I am confused as to how I can make a button trigger record, stop, etc. Program changes are a mystery to me as well. Thanks in advance.
  14. Hi, I'm using an older synth as a MIDI controller and it has some issues sending above a 115 in velocity, so in my MIDI Thru Inspector area in the top right corner, I have Velocity set to +25 and Dynamics set to 200%. I keep this the same all the time. However, it's getting annoying setting this for every new project, and it sometimes undoes itself when I create a new track. Is there any way for me to have this automatically come up with my custom settings upon creating a new project? I tried doing Preferences > Global > Create New Project from Template, but no options for templates are showing up. Sorry to ask this question, I searched beforehand but couldn't find anything. I'm sure it's been asked a hundred times, but I probably just don't know how to ask it correctly...
  15. "You can record, practice, and play your instrument anytime or anywhere." Something about that seems very misleading then. Shady marketing it is then.
