  1. Very true... Stop knobs are not that great
  2. Thanks I'll give it a go tomorrow. Appreciate your help
  3. Ok smart controls eh... I'm a bit new to this sort of stuff any suggestions on what could work hardware wise with this? Or where I can get a tutorial on smart controls? I do have a nano control but might need something with more controllers?
  4. There's a ton of synths in logic like alchemy etc I have a few keyboards so done need the key part but what's easiest and best piece of hardware that hopefully is automatically assigned to logics synths knobs etc? if something like this existed it would be awesome. I just want to grab a knob or slider without having to set up assignments for ages as I'm not great at that sort of thing. Also As logic has a lot of synths I want to switch between rapidly it would be a pain to have to setup your assignments for the next 1. I like to write create on the fly so that sort of thing I don't want it to get in the way. Hope this makes sense but if anyone has ideas of what hardware is best or best way to approach this is appreciate it.
  5. thanks very much very helpful appreciate your time. I do have another question you might know but i think it would have to be done by setting up a special environment. 1 of my keyboards is a Roli Seaboard with MPE so transmits on channel 2 to 16 in one of its modes. That makes things rather tricky as you can imagine. Any ideas on how you can get a track to respond on a certain set of channels and leave channel 1 off? Just thinking unless there is a way to block channel 1 midi input and leave 2 to 16 alone so maybe leave it set to all but block channel 1? just thinking of a way to use this. Thanks again
  6. Im finding logicX confusing in this area. I can do this easily in ableton live in its settings I see the 2 controller keyboards I have connected to it and on each channel strip I can choose which keyboard and which midi channel it will see. So i have board A on one channel strip on midi channel 1 and board B on another channel strip set to midi channel 2. How do I reproduce this in LogicX? There doesnt seem to be anyway of seeing this sort of setup in LogicX, Cant see the controller boards even . I am trying to play 2 controller boards lIVE at the same time during out gigs into logicX so at same time on different tracks with different controller boards. I thought if I just chose to send midi out on channel 1 on board A and midi out to channel 2 on the other then setting a channel strip for A to 1 and B to 2 ( with an AU synth on each channel strip thats different like pad and trumpet) it would work but no LogicX seems to take any midi channel input and put it to all the channel strips with an AU on it despite me adjusting the channel strip setting to a specific midi channel. I don't get this at all. I can't see a place to see my keyboards except in audio midi app . So how to I setup logicX so I can play on one controller board on channel 1 to 1 channel strip and play at the same time on a different controller board into a different channel strip with a different AU synth on channel 2? thanks for your patience.
  7. Dont know about pro issues BUT go check some speed tests on the 15" new sandy bridge i& mbook pros and they are really fast as in faster than last years mpro The imac is not using a sandy bridge chip yet so steer well clear until they update or grab the quad core mbpro with sandy bridge
  8. nice but what if you have 3 patches you use in a concert but 25 songs?
  9. depends on how you have Kontakt setup as a plugin. I dont find it too bad. there are buffer sizes in Kontakt itself. Also I use an alias for Kontakt so if I have multiple patches with a different Kontakt sound it it is not loading dozens of Kontakts just the one instance
  10. still using mine and it works great ive had it since they first came out no troubles noticeably faster. I tried one in a mac pro in place of a 7200rpm drive just to see and it definitely improved things The bottom line for most computer use is disk access is the bottle neck. I over clocked a unit from 2.93 to 3.7ghz and it made no real noticeable speedup though geek bench showed a speed increase. But the XT was noticeably quicker so if you want to notice a difference id say grab and XT or save up like I am and grab an SSD drive for the OS at least to run on.
  11. assign one sound to a certain range and the other sound to a different range say c3 to c4 for first c4 to c5 for next now adjust the transpose so c3 is the same as c4 but they are of course different sounds
  12. mainstage has a plugin that does his . i havnt used it myself but you record in logic and add markers for your verse etc and then play it back super easy in mainstage. Mainstage is all about live performance and backing tracks and loopers and soft synths and a tone of other stuff super easy to map all your hardware controls too
  13. if its working for you then thats great. streaming big samples from an external drive is better but if you are not having issues then it is one less thing to go wrong. of course if your internal hard drives dies then you are stuffed either way. for crazy insurance you could always bring an external drive with a complete copy of your internal hard drive using super duper or carbon copy cloner on it. A firewire drive is better then if your system drive dies on you u can plug in the external and boot from it and keep going. cheaper than a second laptop
  14. thanks for your suggestions, shaneblyth. the concert went on without a hitch. i did remember to turn airport off, and also time machine as i have read in some threads. as i said before, i wasn't doing anything complicated, but still, you never know. it seems that my computer works great when i am alone, but then i try to show someone how great my computer is and it starts acting all strange. anyway, it was a success, and i do plan on upgrading to MS2 when i get back to chicago next year. do you recommend the upgrade because it is generally more stable or just because of the new features? thanks again both reasons, many new features and stability and on going compatibility with plugins and the OS in general
