  1. I have 2 m-audio axiom 61s. I have the top one set to MIDI ch 1, and the bottom to MIDI ch. 5. My bottom keyboard is, for about 90% of the show just a piano... So I have set up, at the concert level, a piano for the bottom keyboard on MIDI ch. 5. So, when creating new "songs" - all I really have to do is setup what I want for the top keyboard, and the bottom will stay as a piano. I guess another technique would be using an "alias" then, when I do need to say, layer an organ on the bottom keyboard for about 10% of the songs, I do just that, and check the box that overrides the concert level. I think, hypothetically you could use as many different controllers as you wanted to, well maybe 16- as long as each is assigned to a different MIDI channel- and then its respective channel strip is assigned to that specific MIDI ch. I don't think you would need to have both logic and MS open- this should be something you can achieve all within MS.
  2. After reading thru the Apple support forum about problems with random CPU spikes, I decided to see if anyone here was also experiencing a similar problem: Here is the link to that thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2416052&tstart=0 This is my problem, and I'm not sure what the cause is: I too am having issues with CPU spikes and latency: Before I was attributing the problem to other factors, like too many plug-ins, or maybe my patches were not efficient enough. I have never used MS before my present setup, which is the following: MPB OSX 10.6.4 15in 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Internal Hitachi Drive 7200RPM PreSonus FireStudio Interface Logic sounds, MTron Gforce, NI/ Kontakt 4.1 w/ Alicia's Keys 2 M-Audio 61 Axiom Controllers My setup does not seem that crazy or CPU demanding- I am only running 2 controllers with at most on one song 5 different patches. However, I have tried my best at keeping my patches very efficient. Only using about 3 instances of the Native Instruments Alicia's Keys- 90% of which are setup at a concert level. The rest is a combo of logic sounds, MTron, and Motif Rack. The lower I put the buffer the more cracks and pops, and CPU spikes I get. With 44.1 sample rate, I have the safety buffer off, and a buffer size of 128 gives me 7.8ms of latency. I did a test right now after reading this thread- my controllers are not even hooked up to my laptop- I just opened my concert in MS, to watch if the CPU hits red. Sure enough, it spikes up, just by me changing the patch. As I said, I am not even playing anything- just simply opened MS, and without me doing anything CPU seems to randomly spike up to the red. ***? Anyone have any ideas? is this a bug in the OSX? with MS2? or perhaps something I can change about my setup?
  3. I am using an M-Audio Axiom 61. I understand how to map parameters and make the computer "learn" which control I want to use.. this is my problem: Lets say I have a piano in my song on the bottom keyboard. I want add a delay to this piano, but only for certain parts of the song. Essentially, I want to have a regular piano (no delay) for the majority of the song, but for certain parts I want to be able to hit the piano and have it have the delay effect. So my first step is to add delay to the channel strip with the piano (right?)... but now, I have just added delay to the piano, and that will be throughout the whole song. What I want to do, is be able to assign the delay to a button on the M-Audio, and then assign feedback to the vertical slider... so, start the song, regular piano, no delay... then, push the button (to activate delay) then use the slider to control amount of feedback or delay time or whatever.... The problem is, adding delay to the piano channel strip just puts delay on the piano. I want to make the button control on the m-audio be the action that I do to activate the delay on the piano. But I can't figure out how to do that. How do I map that to the controls? I guess the same thing could be looked at for reverb. Lets say I want a Dry piano the whole song. But towards the end of the song I want to build up the amount of reverb. So in the start I want zero effects on this piano.. During the middle of this song, for example I want to be able to add reverb to this piano (by clicking a button on the axiom) then I can gradually increase reverb amount by moving up a slider, or turning up a knob. How do I do this? Any help is greatly appreciated!
  4. So my physical rig is wired as seen in the attachment. Now, I want to pull Motif sounds from Mainstage. How do I do this? I add new channel strip, as external instrument, my MIDI output I choose "motif port 1" but then where do I choose the sound from the motif? I'm not sure how I will actually do this- will I be physically selecting from the motif sound bank right there in MS? also, in my MIDI setup, shouldn't I be routing those ports, from motif to "project" (which is the presonus interface) just wondering what my next step is- I'm kind of stuck here. Thanks for any help!
  5. I got it figured out from help on the apple forum. I had to go to preferences in Mainstage, then Audio>output>Presonus. Now when making new channel strips I have the option to send to all the available outputs. Thanks!
  6. I have 2 axiom controllers on separate MIDI channels (top on ch 1, bottom on channel 2) in my layout. I also have a Presonus Firestudio Project connected which is recognized both in MIDI setup, and as a device in layout mode in MS. This is what I want to do: 1) Create a synth on my "top" controller, and send it to outputs 1-2. (no problem) 2) Create a split on my bottom keyboard with my left hand organ and my right hand piano. Here lies the problem, when creating a new channel strip for the organ, I want to send it to outputs 3-4, and send my piano to 5-6. However, when I create the new channel strip, my only options are to send to "outputs 1-2." Seeing as I have the Presonus interface hooked up, shouldn't it give me the option to send the patch from a new channel strip to whatever outputs I want? It only gives me the option to send it to "output 1-2." I assume, on my bottom keyboard, I can keep the split all on MIDI ch 2, but then send each individual sound to a different output, right? Do I need to add the presonus to the layout? It doesn't seem like there is an icon for "audio interface." MS recognizes it as a device, so why am I not given the option to send to other outputs then just 1-2? Am I going about this the wrong way? Your help is much appreciated! You can see a sketch of my rig below- I am still trying to figure it out.
  7. Below you can see that the "available devices" in MS "Port 1 AX TOP" and "PORT 2 AX TOP." But, below that, you can see how I identified the different controllers, in MIDI setup as TOP and BOTTOM- but why does MS see them as both "TOP" but a different port? In order for me to have the keys be recognized as top and bottom, I have to keep devices to "ALL" and set MIDI ch 1 for top and MIDI ch2 for bottom. But why does MS not detect the devices as I have them labeled in MIDI setup?
  8. I have them named in MIDI setup as 2 different things: AX TOP AX BOTTOM --- I then open MS and got to layout mode and it detects 2 devices: Port 1 TOP AX Port 2 TOP AX So, my system seems to be working- meaning my top keyboard is MIDI ch 1 (both in layout and on my axiom) and the bottom is MIDI ch 2 (both in layout and on the axiom.) Then, why, does Mainstage see them as one device, with 2 ports? Does this have to do with the IAC Driver in MIDI setup?
  9. ok, I have tried all of this- in MIDI setup I rename each controller, to axiom top, and axiom bottom. in layout- axiom top is on midi channel 1 (as is the global channel set on my top axiom controller.) Similarly, axiom bottom is on midi channel 2 (as is the global channel set on my bottom axiom controller) interesting to note here- when I am in layout mode, under "hardware input" the only 2 devices that show are called, axiom bottom port 1 axiom bottom port 2 So, something makes me think it has to do with which port? I am now using a usb hub but I had similar problems before using the hub. This brings me to some questions. 1) IS there a way to add/remove devices within mainstage. In other words, where does it see what my devices are. In layout>Hardware Input>Devices - where does MS read these devices? From MIDI setup? That does not make sense because in MIDI setup I have each device labeled "top" and "bottom" all that comes up in layout is "bottom port 1" and "bottom port 2." 2) Am I correct in assuming that it shouldn't matter which port I plug into- meaning, the computer should recognize the name of the device as its been labeled in MIDI setup, right? Earlier today everything was working fine, I had top controller on chan 1 in MS and global, bottom on channel 2 in MS and globabl- and they both worked perfectly. To test this, I switched the USB cables, I put the bottom controller in port 1, and the top in port 2 (the opposite of how I had it originally) - and everything responded fine, normal, as it should... the top recognized top, bottom recognized bottom. I currently have each controller responding as it should, top on MIDI ch 1 and bottom on MIDI ch 2. However, under layout > screen control inspector> hardware input>device - for both of my controllers I set this to "ALL" My question is why does it not let me choose which device that is? Should I not have an option for "axiom bottom" and "axiom top" ? (thats how they are labeled in MIDI setup.) Instead, my devices are "bottom port 1" and "bottom port 2" Any ideas?
  10. I'm having trouble and it seems like very basic stuff: I have 2 identical axiom 61 controllers. in MS layout I make 2 controllers to resemble my physical setup. I can not get the top keyboard to be recognized or "learned" in MS. Here is the steps I have done: 1)Before even opening MS, I open Audio MIDI setup. 2) I plug in my top keyboard and rename it "axiom top" I test the setup, and it works. This keyboard is set on global chan midi 1 on the controller. 3) I plug in bottom keyboard and name it "axiom bottom" - I test it it works. * Should I change settings on ports here? 4)I open MS and open a new template with 2 controllers. 5) I click on the top keyboard in layout mode. I have it set to device ALL, channel 1. When I play the top controller, there is no movement of the keys in layout mode. (accept I can still hear the "test" sound from idid setup when I lift off the keys. even though I pushed the "test button off" 6) I click on the bottom controller in layout- set to device ALL and channel 2. It works fine, and I do not hear this "test" sound from MIDI setup. I am going crazy, I had it all figured out now I can't get it. Is it the ports? I have tried to "learn" the controller, no recognition. The controller is recognized in MIDI setup, but in MS I cant get it to be recognized. Interestingly, in layout, my only "devices" available are "port 1 axiom bottom" and "port 2 axiom bottom" so essentially, it thinks its 1 controller going thru both ports? I'm confused out of my mind, any insight would be greatly appreciated... and why do I have the "test" sound still going off while MIDI setup is open? I just closed MIDI setup and the noise went away- but in MS I cant get my 2 controllers to be distinguished from one another!!! thanks for any help!
  11. thanks for the help guys. What I did, that worked, is change the set the top keyboard to MIDI channel 1 and the bottom to MIDI channel 2. The easiest way for me to do this was change the global setting on the Axiom controller itself. Thanks again!
  12. What I'm trying to do seems like it should be easy, but I have been struggling to get it to work. I want to build, in layout mode, to replicate my physical setup, which is a "top keyboard" (axiom 61) and a "bottom keyboard" (axiom 61) Before I have done anything, I went to MIDI setup, and labeled each of my devices Axiom TOP and Axiom BOTTOM. now, this brings me to some questions. 1) When editing and labeling my devices in MIDI setup should I designate each controller to a port? Or, should I just leave that alone? Ideally, I would like to designate TOP to USB port 1, and BOTTOM to USB port 2, but I can't really figure out how to do that, neither am I sure that this is what I should be doing. 2) When editing each device it says below "ports" but I can't really change any of this info. Is this where I would designate each controller to a certain MIDI channel? Not sure if I should even be editing the settings in MIDI setup, but this is what I do next: Layout Mode. 1) drag a keyboard to the top region of the layout screen. 2) plug my "top" keyboard into USB port 1 on my MBP. 3) Click "learn" and play my top Axiom controller. The keys on my virtual controller in layout mode recognize that this is my top Axiom... so, I assume I am halfway there... 4)Drag another controller into my layout mode, which represents my bottom keyboard. 5) It recognizes this as my Axiom BOTTOM, BUT, when I play on only the bottom Axiom, in layout mode, both controllers are playing, top and bottom. Layout mode in mainstage now thinks both of my virtual keyboards are the Axion BOTTOM I try to change the MIDI channel but this doesn't help... Should I be designating each top and bottom controllers to a certain MIDI channel? I'm not sure if I am approaching this in the right way, but I have tried everything. Anybody have any insight? thanks!
  13. yes, All of my Korg stuff is the most recent version. I can go to library>audio>plug-ins>components and the file is there M1.component. I also finally got the Korg instrument to show up in the Audio Units manager. But I can not find the Korg sounds in my library. I have gotten this far [image too wide removed by moderator - Please keep all screenshots below 800 pixels, thanks. Read Me Before Posting - Forum Guidelines (#8 )] But how do I find the sounds to use in my library? thanks for any help!
  14. In logic, I go to preferences>audio units manager and then I reset and rescan collection and there is nothing from the manufacturer Korg. But, on my HD, I can go to library>audio>plug-ins>components and the file is there M1.component. So shouldn't the audio units manager find it?
  15. I have searched all over and can't find out what I'm doing wrong. I have a new macbook pro 10.6.2 and logic pro 9. I am new to Logic so I'm not really sure how to play sounds outside of Logic. I recently got the Korg Legacy Collection- and have successfully installed it on my computer. Now, I want to be able to load these sounds into logic, and have them part of my library. When I go to media>browser>library>audio>plug-ins>VST there is nothing there. But, if I go to my HD and go library>audio>plug-ins>VST there is a KORG folder, which contains the file M1.vst - How can I open this in Logic? What am I missing? I want these Korg sounds to load in Logic, so I can use them as virtual instuments. Can I do this? and store them in Logic too? Any help is greatly appreciated.. thanks!
