  1. I really like my mac book pro retina 15, I'll keep using it for sure but I would like to buy an Imac 27 and only use my laptop when I'm not at home! I went to the apple store and compared the newer imac 27 5k vs the regular imac 27.... The image quality is stuning... I've read about some lagging on logic x and mission control, but when I bought my retina mac book pro scrolling up and down did the same thing. Now everything is perfect. I don't need the 5k but if he is fine for logic why not!?
  2. I really like the unison technology! http://www.uaudio.com/store/channel-strips/610-collection.html And they'll have more mic preamp in the future.
  3. Well I'll try to give you my toughts on this.... Since I've tried almost everything I like to try everything, buy use and sell what you don't like without loosing money! And sorry for my bad english, my first language is french Sorry for this long reply !! I've tried many audio interface, from pretty cheap to lot of money (at least for me). Tried m-audio fast track, avid eleven rack, persons firestudio, Focusrite dsp 24, motu track 16, motu ultra lite mk 3,apogee duet 2, Rme UC, Rme UCX , RME UFX and now the ua apollo quad..... You can great sounding music with any of these... if you really want to hear the sound quality difference between these interface you need to put a part of your budget to acoustic treatment and a good set of monitors. At least for me before this I couldn't really hear any difference at all...... Then you got drivers stability that is really important and RME for me were the best at this... never had any problems with them! (No problems with the apollo but too new to judge!) But with the rme UCX and UFX I didn't really liked the mic preamp on vocals (sounded sterile to my ears) so I start looking for a mic preamp..... bought an avedis ma5.... needed a lunchbox... bought the api lunchbox, wow 5 spaces to fill... bought a compressor (the brute)... sounded really great.... but I wanted to track my acoustic guitar with 2 mics.... sounded a lot better with the avedis..... buy a second one??? Fast forward to early january.. received an email from Jeffrey at vintage king audio...... telling me that the audio interface I was looking at in november, the apollo quad had the thunderbolt upgrade for free until march 31st 2014..... the reason I went with the ufx was that the thunderbolt added a 500$ cost to the apollo ..... Here's one of the emails he sent me back then: " That is great news! So happy to hear you love it! The Apollo is a great interface for sure…proven as our best seller… the sound quality is at the RME UFX quality but slightly more musical. The plug ins are the best! The ability to track using plug ins rivals Pro Tools HDX for a fraction of the price. Right now UA is giving away the Thunderbolt expansion for free with the purchase of the Apollo. This is a $500 value. I highly recommend this as the top value and performance for the money. I sold my UFX, sold my lunchbox..... bought the apollo quad and when I registered use the 6 plugins for 799$ deal.... Today got the UA 7.5 software with the unison 610 preamp cloning thing..... Let me say that I can do anything with this box, beside the routing ability and the usb recording I don't miss my UFX at all. To my ears everything sounds better, I love ua plugins they are really incredible. Yesterday I took the quad and octopre to my drummers house. We did a really fast test and mic is drum kit with a few 1176 plugins and this is pretty amazing for the price!!!!!!
  4. Wow just looks pretty incredible! A "duet"with UA dsp for ua plugins. From 699 to 899 for solo or duo! http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ApolloTwinS/
  5. I'm a guitarist in my band and I've tried everything possible to have the best sound we can with our guitars! For me there are only 3 way to get my sound but... with plugins now (amplitude 3 , pod etc ) you can get good results. But for me and our other guitarist we wanted our amps sound, our own sounds. 1st:The best way: mic your amp and play 2nd: if you only need your amp sound, and don't need 10000 amps, give two notes torpedo a try. Our guitarist got the torpedo live and we use it a lot! They've just released the torpedo reload that me be a better choice for home studio, I'll be getting one for sure! A loadboax with 50+cabs, re-amping ability, attenuator,Di and lot more for 800$ 3rd the kemper profiling amp. This is just incredible, it is an amp cloner that feels, play and sound like an amp! I've tried them all, pod, pod hd, axe fx ultra and axe fx 2 and the only one that sound like my amp is this one! Around 1800$ but you have 10000 or different amps!
  6. motu will be releasing the 828x in a few weeks for 899$. I think it will be the same has the 828mk3 but with thunderbolt to replace firewire and it also have usb http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/828x
  7. I like the look of the new mac pro or trash can as you call it! So small and so powerful! The only problem for me is that the internal hd is 256gb.. At this price they should put at least a 512gb in it!
  8. I'm not sure but swapping your internal HD would void the warranty you will have with a new macho pro from apple. There are some pretty fast external hd's right now trough thunderbolt. The velociraptor duo got great reviews if you need extra speed! They are set to raid 0 with a test speed of 350mb/s write speed and 370mb/s read speed. If you want raid 1 no raid at all just go with the thunderbolt duo Velociraptor at 549$: http://www.amazon.com/VelociRaptor-External-Drive-Storage-Thunderbolt/dp/B008R7EWF2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1388958526&sr=8-1&keywords=velociraptor+duo Thunderbolt Duo 4tb or 6tb: http://www.amazon.com/WD-Thunderbolt-External-Drive-Storage/dp/B006W3ZXJC You may be able to find better price
  9. Motu announced a brand new thunderbolt interface, the 828x. I guess it'll be the same as the 828mk3 hybrid but with thunderbolt instead of firewire. They sell them for 849$ at sweetwater but they are not in stock right now! We'll have to wait and see if latency will be event better, if I remember motu have the best lantecy in external audio interface. http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/828x
  10. Any users have experience with any or some of these audio interface? I just sold my rme ucx and I'm still not sure if i'm staying with rme or going for something else!
  11. Ua plugging might be great but what about the audio interface itself, mic preamp, converters... Will they be as good as the rme?
  12. I just sold my rme UCX to a friend of mine and I wanted to upgrade to the UFX. I contacted my seller and he didn't had any in stock that he should have them in 2 weeks but told me that I should take a look the UA apollo quad that he prefers this one. Tracking with UA plugins seems pretty rad but are the drivers stable? If I add the thunderbolt connection does it add more power so I can use more UA plugins? Thanks!
  13. In logic X I have a midi drum part that I want to make louder but without loosing the nuance between each midi notes. So I want to take those midi parts and maybe add 20 velocity to every note... I know how to do it note by notes but there must be a faster and easier way to do this! thanks
  14. A friend of mine also have a ucx and a great river and a gap pre 73 preamp and he's always saying you should buy a mic preamp, bla bla bla... I didn't tried his great river or gap because he now lives at a 6 hour car drive from me. I started my little home studio (for me and my band) a little less then a year ago and he's been doing home recording for around 10 years so... But he haven't bought any plugins and he is using cubase 6 plugins only..... My thinking was recording my vocal tough my clean UCX pre and add color after with waht suits my vocals and the song the best.
