  1. Well, I got frustrated with the whole mess and purchased LPS2 Academic from evil bay. I realize I'm stuck in legacy land but who cares? I'm not gonna buy a new(er) Mac just so I can run LPX. But thanks for your input!
  2. I finally caved and bought a "new" Mac since my trusty ol' G5 PPC has maxed out. It's a Mac Pro 1,1 with the 2.66 Xeons. Having never attended any Mac (or any other computer) training except Trial and Error and Pointers from the Geek Pages, I didn't know that I should have found out about how to make the jump from PPC to Intel-based Macs. If you don't know the question, you can't ask, I say. But, I'm fairly proficient with these contraptions, having used PC's for about nine years and building two PCs. My first Mac was a PPC for XMAS in 2010, used, from evil bay, and loaded with every imaginable multimedia program, including Logic Studio -LP8- (which I've just now, in the wake of my current dilemma, purchased a NOS full retail version, so relax. It'll be here within a week.) When I "migrated" my docs, apps and settings over to the new machine and went to resume working on my recent project, Logic told me to install Rosetta from either the web at the link given on the message, or from my S/Leopard install disc, the option I chose. Apparently Logic thought it was still in a PPC. So I install Rosetta from the dvd and when I went to use Logic it quit instantly and prompted me to ignore, report or relaunch. When my new legal legit and expensive copy of Logic Studio gets here, I really don't want to wipe my drive and start all over so I figured maybe somebody knew how to get rid of Rosetta with a few keystrokes at most. Thanks to all for your kindness, understanding and expertise!
  3. I'm pretty new to DAWs and brand new to Logic and midi instruments specifically so I'm not sure how to address this save for under the invaluable advice of a fellow Logic Forum member: succinctly and with humility. Finally gotten around to using Goliath's drums. Whichever kit I select, they clip and then their respective sounds are "muffled". I used the interface's mixer to bring the volume down to compensate for the velocity with which I strike the keys, but other'n that, I'm at a loss and open (and eager) for instruction. Thanx!
  4. Um. Duh. Nope. I looked in library/audio/plugins. (I'm still getting the hang of Mac-ing.) I have to go to Santa Fe today so I'll check it all out when I get back home. How do I manually start the validator? Or may I? It ran when I put in a couple plugs my buddy gave me, found them incompatible and went on with it's business. I've already trashed them. I did see EastWest listed and it failed validation but I don't know why. I had my Pace dongle plugged too. Hmm. Maybe a reinstall of the Play engine? Or Goliath and Symphonic? I checked out the AU Manager just now. (And answered my other question.) Play is validated in that one project and the EWQL instruments are there listed. I opened the other project and... now how'd that happen? EastWest is back in the dropdown. This is getting creepy. I did a bunch of permissions settings so that may have done the job... Thanks anyway Dave! You rock!
  5. Long story short, I was trying to fix another separate Apple issue and created a "root administrator". Since that time I noticed that Goliath and SympOrch came missing from the drop-down menu in the track insert. Apple's there and a few others like NI, some cool analog synth, etc., but no EWQL. Weird, huh? Both open as standalone, I do know that, but not within Logic. So anyway, here's what's happened: A (certain random) project wouldn't open today until I pointed it to the samples folder. It played fine then and I fiddled around with it a little. What I mean is I listened to the playback and fiddled with the curser for a sec. I need to open it again and check if the plugs are there. I didn't notice this predicament until I opened a new project. A new project with a new track doesn't even list 'em. Thanks in advance. Logic Pro 8 Studio PPC G5 9 gb RAM Lots of storage
  6. Haven't used my EastWest or other instruments on a couple of projects so I don't know when it happened, but all my third party AUs have disappeared. I'll link an image of the AU profiler log which has like java script where some names should be. My buddy gave me a couple of plugs to try out so they may have confused LP8 into losing stuff? Quack or something pitch wheel and Old Timer, a compressor. I opened Goliath in standalone and it works fine so I closed it out, took a screenshot, uploaded and linked it and opened this thread. Please help me if you can, Dave, et al gurus. How may I uninstall my third parties and omit the stuff my buddy gave me before reinstalling the ones I know work? Here's the screenshot: http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f199/7newman7/LogicPlugMgrLog.jpg
  7. Ummm... would that be me, the 'dangerous noob'? (got my first pc about four years ago and built a custom worker a few months later... then I got my G5 for my birthday this past December.)
  8. ski, that "root" thing came from that blog I linked above. I skimmed through it again just now but didn't see it in the main article so I must've gotten the idea from the comments. But again, that's a FCP Studio issue, not Logic. Thank God! Although the guy did rectify his issue using his Logic install disk to re-install Compressor. The "root administrator" shows up in my permissions as "unknown" in the top spot, me in the second, or staff, depending on which folder/drive I'm looking at and then in third place is "everybody" so I imagine that root means top dog administrator who administrates the power to administrate to other lesser administrators. For anyone interested, I'll sift through the blog http://www.kashum.com/blog/1152611689 again and try to find the "root" reference. So in the meantime, anyone know of any cool AU plugs, etc that haven't been pulled from the assembly line since 2006 when Apple jumped the fence? Remember, I'm a Switcher. I was on Sonar Producer and Premiere Pro and XP Pro. Thanks and cheers! eric
  9. @analogika: yeah, "that" Comp/Qm deal has a couple of handy pages that offer help, including the one you suggested. (that's for Comp3, I have 2) Something about the Root Administrator being the Grand Poobah of permissions is here: http://www.kashum.com/blog/1152611689 so that's where I got the idea. I'm thinking that since my G5 is a Macenstein- FCS was pieced together, but Logic Studio is in "one piece" -it may have confused Qmaster? But maybe not. Maybe Apple needs to re-evaluate how things are converted and exported. But that's a FCS problem. I've had no issue with Logic except for that little ol' thang from yesterday. That and I can't find Antares that will work on a PPC anymore. Guess I'll just have to go to that vocal coach after all.... So on that note I'll make my official bitch: "Oh, sure. Soon as I switch over, I discover that they don't make "real" Macs anymore." But you know, at the end of the day, I love my G5 even if it is a dinosaur. Cheers and thanks! eric
  10. I went ahead and backtracked from the destination folder to Logic, resetting permissions all the way so all's well. I had created a root administrator in a step that was supposed to lead me to a solution to "that" Compressor/Qmaster issue, that's how all my permissions got snafu'd. Now if I could only fix "that Compressor/Qmaster issue."
  11. Hi, I've been piddling around with Qmaster and Compressor trying to resolve "that issue" and I must've mucked up my permissions somehow somewhere because I get an error message saying that I can't save "the Document Untitled" as "blah blah blah" because I don't have sufficient access or something. Hold on. I'll look real quick. Yeah. I "don't have appropriate access privileges." I went to the Applications>Logic Studio>Logic Pro>get info>unlock it and grant everyone on the planet permission to operate. Nope. Now if what I said above has anything to do with this, I'll be doing a reinstall of a whole lotta stuff, huh?
  12. Many thanks for jumpin' in. As you're familiar w/z3ta, compare Zebra for me, plz. For a little more to go on, I'll attempt to describe to you my virgin z3ta aural experience: as previous, the interface was intimidating so I simply dragged it to the voc track object in Sonar. It had like, a slow echo and a slight slap back at the same time plus all kinds of comp sounding reverby lusciousness sounding stuff a vocal track would need to sparkle. All in the default loaded setting; just dragged on the object... If Zebra is anything close.... sign me up. I'd like to hear if it, Zebra, can give -now excuse me while I digress -I said before that I like z3ta, untampered with and just dragged onto a vocal track object in Sonar. It dazzled me with the double delays and the whole signal processing path it took and I have no f**King clue what it did but I never sang so baddass in my life; specially after a tune-up in the (STOCK) V-Vocal processor. Thank you very much Mr. Twelve Tone. If only Logic Studio could give Sonar some egg in the face. Anyways back on track; can Zebra accomplish that? After Antares, of course... and I do realize that one's own aural experience is one's own. It's a real hard question to answer since nobody can effing hear what I heard. And to top that off, I barely know what I'm doing so I can't even ask the right kind of questions! [chuckle] [big grinning mug] Y'all feel free ta git this train rollin'! Shoot, any suggestions other'n Zebra for a voc whammy like what I used zeta for, I'd be much obliged.
  13. Okay, now that I actually know the difference between VST, AU, and RTAS; and that I will only be using AU since I'm on ten five eight, I came across a name of a softsynth called Zebra. When I was a lowly PC user, I ran Sonar 7 Producer, (which I love and will miss, but not enough to go back...) and in Sonar is a goodie called z3ta. Its interface scared hell out of me so I just dragged it to the object and gave it a listen with its default setting upon first opening. I got my sonic ass kicked! I fell instantly in love with the combo of that and V-Vocal to tune me up. Well... Now I want to do that in LP(8). One commenter somewhere -I do dig around a LOT -said that Zebra sounded "plastic" by comparison. Another said they couldn't live without it. I'd love some input from you, my new support community, whom I'm growing to love and respect. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm actually gonna dig through my hdd just to see what, exactly, is in Logic Studio that'll get me up to snuff like with Sonar.
  14. Hi all. I'm pretty new here so I'll take a chance on getting chewed out for not reading the twelve hundred and two pages found searching for "no playback from my midi instrument track" and go ahead and post my question anyway. For starters, (finally wised up and made The Switch from a PC to a PPC) I haven't received my personal copy of The Sacred Book so I still don't know how to do MacSpeak or LogicSpeak; but I do know that I'm not getting the desired results. I recorded a "midi event" I guess it's called in LogicSpeak. I know this because I can see it in the arranger. I used QL Goliath's native interface to monitor my playing because my track gives no output although it is pointed properly to the instrument. There is activity in the window down there in the Transport Bar area as to what I'm playing in the input, but no activity for output. I get meters in the track when I play live, but when I try to play back the project, I have nothing coming from the aforementioned instrument track. No sounds. No lights. No motorcars. Not a single luxury. Yes. I do have the Preferences pointed to the proper place for playback. Seems Logic is smart enough to know when I've switched interfaces and tells me it's defaulting to the onboard audio. Yes, Goliath is pointed to the proper audio in its native interface but I cannot make settings in the track's view of the Goliath interface for some reason. Must be a Logic/EastWest eccentricity to deal with. Now I suppose I could go digging around the browser and use a different plug-in instrument, but what's the point? Analog Factory does the same thing Goliath does for playback within Logic: nada. And since we all like to share what we use: "Late '05" PowerPC 2.3 ghz dual core NOT INTEL (I mean, why bother?) Stock audio upgraded to 9gb RAM (so far) upgraded to a pair of Black Caviar 500's Presonus AudioBox Yamaha KX25 controller Logic Pro 8
  15. So then, getting a controller to connect with and play a VSTi within a track in Logic Pro is a secret only to be uncovered by reading The Sacred Book? Fine then. I'll await my very own copy of The Sacred Book (and probably bug the pants off my pal out West who is a Logic user with similar gear!) Good thing I don't have a deadline. Or is it?
