  1. Sorry to perform a little thread necromancy, but I am having this issue on a Mac Mini M1 running Logic Pro 10.7.4 in both Rosetta and native modes... only seems to affects third party plugins in my testing. Tried with Arturia, TAL, MeldaProductions, and Eventide effects - so it doesn't seem vendor specific. They all have the same behavior: as soon as I make a setting change, the compare button lights up blue - clicking it reverts to the previous settings, but then clicking it again does nothing but flash for a moment. The alternate settings are not restored. Anyone else experience this?
  2. The space is good for heat yes, but the lower rack screw holes don't necessarily match up with standard drilled rails. I just have the top ones secured and it seems fine.
  3. So far so good with the Midiplus16x16... Sysex is all recognized and no discernable latency issues. I really miss the ports on the front for hooking up some temporary gear, but that's a real minor quibble. Support is pretty non-existent, so it's a good thing it's working out of the box for me, core midi, no drivers needed. FWIW, I am keeping both my Unitors just in case.
  4. @dewedman24 I have only used basic midi clock with the midipius 16 (which worked fine syncing external gear to logic), but it doesn't have any LTC inputs or outs like the Unitor if that is what you are asking. Afraid I haven't used any advanced time code stuff since the 90s so I may have misunderstood your question! Here is the manufacturer's site with the manual, but documentation is sparse and support was very slow to answer any technical questions. I just took a chance with Amazon figuring I would return if it didn't work. https://www.midiplus.com.tw/en/product-detail/MIDI16X16/ Let me know if you need me to test anything specific with a file or something.
  5. I ended up getting a Midiplus 16x16 to replace my 2 Unitors - works very well if you get beyond some design quirks. I posted my experiences in more detail in the other thread here: https://logicprohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=158428&p=843351#p843351
  6. FWIW, I gave up, but I am keeping both my Unitors just in case someone at Apple gets around to updating the drivers. But until that happens. I ended up getting a Midiplus MIDI16x16 (https://amzn.to/3H1tmYn - a core midi compatible 16x16 USB3 interface. It is a somewhat odd 1.5 U rack size, and depending on your rack the bottom screw holes may not line up. All the jacks are on back (having the one pair on the front of the Unitor was handy), but the build quality on mine seems fine. It handles sysex well so far, has been rock stable, and worked right out of the box, no drivers. My old school Mackie MCU is responsive and all my older synths work fine with Midiquest. Logic setup was effortless. It's powered through the usb connection. Other than the odd size and no front jacks, my only other quibble is that it has a very bright white LED for the power indicator. But I wish I had got this sooner rather than fighting with alpha drivers on the Unitors for all those frustrating weeks after upgrading to an M1. It met my needs to replace 2 Unitors, so I am passing it on as an option.
  7. Thanks again for all your work in this! Update on my testing - 1. The driver is able to distinguish between both units hooked up directly to the both USB A slots on my MacMini M1. 2. Input and output work on all ports that I have tested - hooray! 3. I am still getting stuck notes on occasion, and pitch bend and CC data comes through very spotty - the values jump all around and the change is not smooth at all. 4. Program changes do not work for me - tested with a few different bank change messages - don't seem to go in or out. It seems like the data is being thinned out - no sure if this an imposed limitation for testing, or if it can't keep up, or something else. For example this is the data for a full up and down pitch bend via MIDI: And the same via USB: So a lot of data is lost there... may be the same reason for the stuck notes. Please let me know if there is anything specific I can test for you - Thanks!
  8. Yes - it works! My second Unitor8mkii is recognized though USB! I am still getting funky behavior in Logic - stuck notes, program changes not working, etc, but I think I need to trash the environment or preferences and start over from scratch. I'll keep updating with my progress.
  9. Thanks again for all your work, mcng! My Unitor Mkii is recognized in Audio Midi setup, and my connected modules are receiving midi notes. The LEDs light on the Unitor and they indicate data in and out correctly! Sysex does not seem to be passed though, I can't send any patches in or out. Both MidiQuest and Edisyn try to initiate sysex handshakes but nothing happens. Not sure if you are filtering this out somewhere. In Logic, I am able to play notes and it rechannels midi through to the correct output. But for some reason program changes aren't behaving properly - the units seem to respond but then jump right back to the previously selected patch! Not sure what is happening there, I will try to get down to the most basic setup to test. It may be something on my end or in my environment... The biggest issue for me is that my RS442 chained unit is not recognized at all. When I have a chance to re-cable some things I can see if it will recognize both through usb... but for now my other 8 inputs and outputs are not seen. And that Unitor has my keyboards attached so I will be able to test input more thoroughly. FYI I only have this and the Novation Mininova 2.20.0 beta midi drivers installed on my system. Thank you again - amazing progress... Please let me know if you want me to test something specific.
  10. THANK YOU so much for even attempting this. FWIW, I can confirm the Unitor MKII has the same info as reported - and this is 2 units chained via RS422. Unitor8 MkII: Product ID: 0x0001 Vendor ID: 0x086a (Emagic Soft-und Hardware Gmbh) Version: 0.01 Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec Manufacturer: Emagic GmbH Location ID: 0x5d100000 / 1 Current Available (mA): 500 Current Required (mA): 0 Extra Operating Current (mA): 0
  11. This is my situation - for those with legacy outboard synths and effects I haven't found many choices for rack mounted 8 port interfaces. The M8U and the MioXL have ports in front, which isn't the cleanest for a rack mounted setup. The Midiplus MIDI16x16 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CRGFTQB/) is midi class-compliant but is a non-standard rack size, and their customer support is abysmal. I have been going back and forth with them for over a month trying to get some more specific technical information about handling sysex with older synths. I understand that some interfaces can't do that. The MOTU options seem the closest to the Unitor in design (https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MIDIExpXTUSB--motu-midi-express-xt-usb), but they only just got their drivers updated for Apple Silicon June 8th, almost 8 months after the M1's release! What's particularly frustrating is that the existing driver seems to work with Big Sur on Intel, just not on the M1 chip... This wouldn't be the first time that a Mac upgrade forces me into a very expensive repurchase of perfectly good hardware due to an outdated driver that a vendor won't update (I am looking at you, Tascam FW-1884). Which really makes me wary of vendor dependency... I am considering only purchasing core audio and class-compliant gear from now on. My two Unitors have handled all sysex and timing duties beautifully for over a decade - even on a MacBook Air running Big Sur - until they became bricks the instant they connected to my new M1 Mac Mini.
  12. I have 2 Unitor MKIIs chained via RS422 so if you would like a beta tester please let me know. (I upgraded to a MacMini M1 from a 2009 Mac Pro and I still have to use the 2009 machine running Mojave to drive my midi gear!)
  13. Wow - please keep us posted! This is great news.
  14. Just wanted to add to this thread that I accidentally reset my plug in manager settings - apparently the ESC key will do this! - and restoring the TAGS folder (~/Music/Audio Music Apps/Databases/Tags/MusicApps.tagpool that Eric mentioned) from Time Machine got back all my favorites and all that - so thanks!
