  1. Haha, once I restarted Logic Pro, all was good.
  2. I one vocal track on channel 1, and 3 guitar tracks on channels 2-4 (all analog tracks). Then I did a "New channel with duplicate settings" on my vocal track, which put it on track 2 on my tracks window, but assigned it to fader 5 on my mixer. Is this a bug? How can I assign it to fader #2? TIA
  3. I laid down drum tracks on my ol' Alesis SR-16 (it's more portable than my iMac, LOL). Now I hooked up its MIDI and audio interfaces to Logic X running on my iMac. I set up 3 channels - 2 audio channels and one software channel. I proceeded to record the MIDI information on my software channel, then played the software channel back, which triggered my drum machine, and I then recorded the drum tracks on my audio channels. All is well. Except now I realize I can really record each drum sound on a separate audio channel. I can just copy the software channel, erase all the MIDI info except for the one I want to record; e.g., erase all except the kick drum info, then play the channel and recored only the kick drum. Repeat for the other drum sounds. There's got to be a better workflow than this though right?
  4. I found a "workaround" (or maybe this is what I did before). I set my software and audio channels record mode, then press Record on Logic X. I then press Play button on my drum machine, which starts recording both MIDI and audio information. Of course in this case, recording starts at time > 0. When done, I just shift all my recored data to time "0." I don't know if there's a better way to do this?
  5. Hi David, I did this "5 years ago" when I initially posted this article, and was successful. I've done since been recording with live musicians, so I have not used my drum machine, til now. But now I can't find my notes on how to do this. I've set up my physical connections as you've suggested, and can hear my drum machine. Now how I make Logic X "start" my drum machine and start recording, that is, when I press "Record" on Logic X, the SR-16 starts playing? Thanks again.
  6. I'm redoing the Logic Pro X tutorials form the book @ 2014 version. I'm starting on chapter 1. I play through a Focusrite Saffire Pro 26 box, and can hear sounds/music through it. I have a a couple of anomalies already. I was able to drag-n-place an Apple loop (Good Life Beat) onto track 1 of my project, and chose to Import the tempo information. I set my focus on the Loop Browser window, meaning I have the blue frame around it. Anomaly 1: According to the book, if the focus is on the Loop Browser window and I hit space bar, the play head should not move. However it DOES! Anomaly 2: I'm able to hear the loop when clicking it in the loop browser. However, I don't hear it when playing the track I just placed it on. Any clues?
  7. Thank you David, I will try this. BTW, as my sig suggests, I've upgraded to Logic Pro X. I bought your book and it's been a life saver. It helped me learned the "mechanics" of Logic X which helps me in my workflow. I've used Logic 9 before but I learned it ad-hoc.
  8. I want to a MIDI track using my Alesis SR-16. (I can figure this out probably) I then want to edit the MIDI data and send it back to my drum machine and record the sounds from my drum machine. How do I get Logic to control my drum machine so it "starts" the drum machine to play the MIDI data? Does this make sense? Chris
