  1. Sounds like a driver issue to me. I see lots of people that run USB interfaces that have issues like you speak of, and if they try a different interface, even the internal sound card in your mac, it seems to help or solve the issue. I have another friend with your interface and he had similar issues. I have a Metric Halo ULN/2 for nearly ten years. Ive never had any issues with any DAW on my macs. Tons of macs, tons or hours of recording time and not a single issue. I believe the better the interface driver development, the lesser the overall issues. I would try switching to the internal sound card first and see what happens with your projects. Also maybe try downloading another DAW, Reaper, Studio One Demo, and run the demo projects. If they work OK, then you know it's a Logic issue, and we can go from there. Wayne
  2. Hey Bud, For your backup issues, try here... https://bombich.com/ CCC is a VERY good option If you want to be real thorough, get TechTool Pro 8. https://www.micromat.com/products/techtool-pro Tests EVERYTHING on your mac hardware and software wise. Also creates bootable disk for repair and does cloning as well. Well worth the money in my opinion. Good luck and let us know how it went.... Wayne
  3. Hey Brew, I have a VERY similar setup as you. I have a mid 2012 Macbook Pro with very close specs, and a Metric Halo ULN/2 as my interface. I upgraded right away after the release of X. It was pretty buggy in that first 6 months for me. Random crashes to desktop, menus being garbled and such, but since the 10.0.7 release, it's been VERY stable on MY system. I always say MY, cause no two systems are the same in these instances. A lot of the new features, especially Drummer, are just KICK ASS! I love the new interface and the rearrangement of the menus, to me makes MUCH more sense. Track stacks are GREAT and work REALLY well. The darker color palette for the general interface seems to really be easy on my eyes. Since the last release I'd say let that $200 finally go and enjoy and VERY stable and enjoyable Logic X release! I don't think you'll be disappointed at all. YMMV but I am confident in my assessment. All the best and happy holidays! Wayne
  4. Are you running everything off your one internal hard drive? If so that could be your problem right there. Running the Os, Logic, and reading and writing to the same internal hard drive is very taxing on a system. Especially the stock hard drives that come in an IMac. Try moving at least your recording folder and samples to an external hard drive. Also, are you sure that you third party plugins are up to date? Logic comes with a fairly taxing demo called "The Numbers Game". If you don't have it you can download it from your logic menu, install additional content. Run that off your internal hard drive and see what you get. If it works fine and plays then you know it's a 3rd party problem. Wayne
  5. Just curious dude... With a machine with 16gb of ram.... 1). Why are you running Mainstage in 32bit? The app is limited to 4gb of that ram. Mainstage v2.x I found to be RAM intensive. More memory the better it seems to run. Why limit it at all? 2). Why not upgrade to 10.9? I found Mavericks to be MUCH more stable and better optimized than Mountain Lion ever was. If you have a second maybe external hdd, install 10.9 on that partition. Migrate over you needed apps, though I would do a clean install of all my apps, and run your MS and Logic sessions from there. That way nothing is touched and you can gauge your machine and 10.9 without disturbing your already working setup. Best of both worlds! Hope that helps, Wayne
  6. Hey DMC, Have you tried either thing I suggested? They are both easy steps to try that won't set you back if they don't help. They are designed to be steps to see if it a system wide problem or maybe something with that particular user login account. There are lots of moving parts in an OS in general. Sometimes when you run software update, it gets "confused" on what files to overwrite or not. I've seen lots of macs and pc's behave much better when applying os patches manually. Secondly, I asked you to create a fresh new account, that can easily be deleted btw, to see if there is some mysterious app running in the background when you login with your normal account that you may have forgotten or didn't even know ran. These are common troubleshooting steps. Since you didn't mention wether you ran them or not, I don't know where to go to help you. All the best, Wayne P.S. Yes I am a big boy. Played football half my life. Nosetackle.....
  7. If it was my machine, I would try re installing the 10.9.4 patch but don't install it from software update. Download the actual patch and run it from your computer. You could also try something else.... Try creating a new separate user account. After creating the account, reboot, login to the new account and run Logic, see if you have the same problems. IF you do then re apply the patch manually. Here's the link. I think you have to have the actual download link emailed to you. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1755 Please report back what happens. Good luck Wayne
  8. Yes free update. https://gigaom.com/2014/06/02/apple-introduces-os-x-yosemite-a-major-visual-update/ Wayne
  9. Hey, Try running with the onboard built in sound card for a while and see if you get any crashes. That should point to wether it's a driver problem or not. Wayne
  10. Greetings, How did you install 10.8? Was it an upgrade from 10.6.8? Or did you do a clean wipe and fresh install of 10.8? In my experience it makes a big difference. I've had alright success with the upgrade path but much better and smooth long term success with fresh installs. Especially since Lion. Also check to make sure you have the latest and greatest Apogee driver for your interface. Make sure you have any AU's that need upgrading, upgraded. I find 10.8 to be finicky with 3rd party plugins. Also make sure any other maintenance programs are compatible with ML as well. Wayne
  11. Hey, Have you got the latest drivers for your interface? I see you have an Apogee ONE. If its the newer one, there is a newer driver from April 2013. Have you tried a different USB port on your Mac? Try switching over to the Mac built in sound card. Try playing your song and see what happens. Also try a different USB cable? Maybe a connection is going bad? Try creating a brand new blank project and adding in your tracks again one at a time. See if there is a problem track or file. You said you had an external HDD? See if it is accessing that hard drive when the problem happens. Also try using a demo of another DAW, like Reaper or Studio One and see if the problem persists. It might be something hardware related then. Hope these ideas help! Wayne
  12. Just in case no one has said it lately, THANKS A FREAKIN LOT DUDE!!!!! All the best, Wayne
  13. So you therefore also use those midi notes to trigger any kind of software instrument you want, not just the sampler from logic. Such as ez drummer or BFD for example. Wayne
  14. Hey dude, Make sure you point the Drummer preferences page to the folder where the actual soundstat file is. If not it won't see it. Also just an FYI, I had to re-order replacement disks from Toontrack when I bought my SD 2 upgrade cause they had some DVD printing issues, so make sure you can read those DVD's on multiple machines. Hope it helps, Wayne
