  1. I want to do a "realtime" bounce of audio. I basically want to print 3 tracks down to one track. This is what I tried: I bussed all my 3 snares to a bus. Created a new track and used the input from the bus. Set my input and It works perfectly. But what I want to do is lower the gain, and for some reason once I record it, its almost like my gain plugin is bypassed. Any help out there?
  2. I was wondering how to get my files down to 44.1 after I record them in 96K. I know in PT you can bounce replace all tracks down to a certain sample rate. Can you in Logic X.
  3. The title says it. I have stems in a 88.2 session from a mix. I want to convert them to 44.1, to keep the consistency rather then opening multiple songs in multiple sample rates. Is their a quick way other than soloing each track and exporting?
  4. I'm having issues in Waveburner with clipping. I'm only using Waveburner for fades and dithering. My mastering process is done in Logic 9. My project is at 24/48k. No dithering. Just standard bounce. I use Sample Manager to get a read out of the track info. I'm at -11RMS and -0.3db on peak. I import the files into Waveburner. Then I export after my fades and it tells me I'm clipping. I run a analyzer plug-in on the track it shows clipping. I don't understand. My limiter on my master is set to -0.3. Is Waveburner adding something?
  5. What about having the Thunderbolt option? How is the a/d conversation say to this? http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/T4 Or even the Apogee Duet 2?
  6. Im currently in the market for a new audio interface. Im more interested in the ad conversion because I have a Trident S20 that I will be using for the pre-amps. I have a small studio that I use mainly for mixing, mastering and vocal production. So 2 channels is fine. Ive heard great things about the TC Electronics Impact Twin. Also Focusrite Saffire. Just wondering people opinions and reviews. I recently had a Presonus Firestudio that no longer is supported in OSX Mountain Lion. My fear is to purchase one of these products that will soon be obsolete. Thanks and advice would be great!! My budget is $600.
  7. Hey ya'll, I received a client mix that is already limited to where I really have no room to master. Any suggestions? Other than reaching out to the person who mixed it?
  8. Looking for some reference mixes out there that aren't already compressed to hell with a brick wall limiter. Anybody know where I can find some?
  9. I've been experimenting with mixing into bus compression. I did a static mix of my tracks then set up my compressors with proper attack/release and 2:1 ratio. Then I start my channel processing, eq, compression. I do simple vocal processing to get them to sit right with the drums. Then move on to drums, I do parallel compression on them. Once this is done and I like the sound, i usually check the bus compressors and see where they are sitting. When I started the mix they were reducing gain by -1 to -2. Now its jumped from -4 to -5. My question is do I lower the threshold on the comps? Or lower my overall mix(all my tracks) into the compressors to get it back to -1 to -2 db of reduction? Im finding my mix sounds punchy but almost too squashed. Almost like the drums sound behind the speakers.
  10. Thanks David. So if you were mixing how would you approach your gain set up? Say drums?
  11. No not determining the balance for a mix. Just Gain Structure. In this mix im doing now, Im adding or lowering with the Gain plugin. My goal is to hit the VCC round 0VU. Then backing lowering it again with the Gain plug-in so im entering my next plug in around -18dbfs. Thats where the Dorrrough comes in. I check the level on that. but should I be using a Dorrough on each channel? Or can I solo the track and check my levels on the stereo bus ?
  12. Im Gain Staging before my mix. And Im using a Dorrough Meter set at a reference of -18dbfs on my master bus. I'm using Pre-Fader metering and my faders are at unity gain. Im soloing individual tracks and adjusting the gain to hit a VCC console at 0VU. So essentially Im trying to mix analog. I want a good amount of headroom on my bus track. So then again I gain the track to sit at -18dbfs on my dorrough. My question is if my instruments (bass, guitar). are averaging around -18dbfs on my Dorrough. Where is a good place to sit my peaks?
  13. Was wondering what my peak values should be at in -18dbfs. For kick, snare and Vocals.
  14. I just started mixing into a bus compressor. I start off by doing a rough mix in logic. Then add bus compression. I use a couple. An API 2500 with about 2-3 db of reduction, attack and release to taste. Then I use a SSL G-Compressor with auto-release and .1s attack, barely moving the needle. After those setting are done I start on individual tracks. I compress each track and eq. Start with Vocals, then move on to drums, guitars, bass. I use parallel compression on the drums. Now after that is done I go back and check my compression. Everything has changed. Im now at about 6db on API and SSL is high as well. Here is my question. Do I change the threshold of the compressors, or do I lower how hard I am hitting my 2 bus via instrument channels? Ive read that your supposed to leave the compressors alone. Once you've set them leave them static. So should I be ok with 6db of compression? Or once Im happy with the mix, lower ALL the channel so Im getting 2-3 gain reduction. Thanks Thanks
  15. I know this kind of might be a question of taste. But I'm looking for some advice. I've read that you should average about -18dbfs when hitting the SSL plug-ins. I've got all my other intsruments(guitars. bass) averaging around -18 with the Gain plug-in. And watching it with a Dorrough set on -18 reference. But what about peaks? Snare, Kick . Im averaging around -6/-7 dbfs. Is this too hot?
