  1. Put simply, no. That would be a handy feature, no doubt. But Logic does not have it at the moment. Maybe send feedback request? Yeah! I definitely will.. it seems like it would be a no-brainer, or at least an obvious "option" when the developers of Logic X are comparing features between all the most popular DAWs.. by any chance, do you have the Logic X Feedback Request link? thanks! EDIT: https://www.apple.com/feedback/logic-pro.html
  2. One thing about Logic X that I always wished was different was that when you draw in MIDI notes into the Piano Roll, the MIDI notes don't display the note value as part of the visual appearance of the note.. For example, when you look at Ableton 9 or FL, when you draw in MIDI notes into their versions of the Piano Roll, each MIDI note will specifically display what note they are placed on, without having to hover over the note or click on them.. They just show the note value straight away.. Is this feature available yet in Logic X? cheers!
  3. What does it mean when an "Incompatible Plugin" shows up but still loads when clicked on?
  4. Here's a topic that relates to everybody, but doesn't get much attention.. Where do you find "legit" computer desks that are both functional and practical for a music producer? I'm currently using the kitchen table that was left in the house I moved into and although everything is situated where it's "usable", it's still not really "practical".. the current offerings for office computer desks are pretty lame and are definitely designed with the "average" user in mind.. Currently, on my desk I've got: -MacBook Pro connected to 27" monitor -midi keyboard -wireless keyboard/mouse -audio interface + separate headphone amp/dac -modem/router -elgato thunderbolt dock/external drive I've also got 2 small tables positioned on each side of my chair, 1 for papers/writing, 1 for food/drinks.. I tend to have several notebooks/papers scattered about much of the time, so something with some nice shelves built-in on a lower level (as to not obstruct speakers) would be great.. I figure it would be sweet to get some kind of office desk setup where I could incorporate all my gear so it's not just scattered everywhere causing me agida (lol).. Something that could sit in an open room and doesn't have a back designed to be up against a wall.. Can anyone make any recommendations on sweet production desk setups and a link to where they could be found? (ps. I work in-the-box) Thanks!!
  5. Hello. I've been having some struggles as of recently when it comes to the High Pass (HP) Filter Side-Chain function on compressors.. When would you use it? vs. When would you leave it off? Is "80hz" (sub-bass) enough? or Should I be more at 250hz? (bass) I always go with my ears either way, but right now my analytical side is clashing with my creative side! haha Thoughts?
  6. Well basically.. Here's a little about me/my situation.. -I produce high-energy dance and club music -I rarely record anything "live" w/microphones, etc -Pretty much exclusively using sample packs and synths for everything -I'm typically using Izotope Alloy's multi-band widening for all my stereo imaging I'm mostly finding myself using Alloy's stereo-widener on: -White Noise/FX risers/fallers -Main synth lead -Pads -FX (impacts, crash fx, etc) Do you think I should be applying stereo-imaging to things like FX found in commercial audio sample packs? I know that a lot of them have modulation already built-in and some stereo imaging done, but I do notice that it changes the sound in a way.. Not sure if for the better all of the time, but it's definitely not for everything either.. Thoughts?
  7. When it comes to stereo imaging to get nice, WIDE sounds.. Would it be better to use a multiband plugin, such as Izotope Alloy/Ozone, that will detect the crossover frequency bands (low, mid, high).. Or a "standard" stereo imager, likes the Waves S1? Would multiband be considered "the best" since it's spreading by frequency band? When would you go with something like the Waves S1 (non-multiband imaging) versus. something like Izotope Alloy2 (multiband imaging)? Thanks!
  8. I do enjoy computers.. it's the "online-only installs" that eat me up can't really justify spending another 2 days just yet, just to test if it'll be better or not.. i was kind of hoping for a big yes or no answer hahah
  9. How measurable is the benefit? I have Time Capsule 2TB running all day, and I do frequent manual backups.. I'm into computers so it wouldn't be a hassle for me, I just want to do what is best for the work I'm doing.. Thoughts?
  10. Hello. Is there any benefit to running Dual SSD's in RAID on a Late 2011 MacBook Pro? I have 2 Samsung 850 Pro 512gb SSD's installed internally (1 in the main drive, 1 in the optical drive via OWC Data Doubler).. Both tested and running at full speed @ 6G/SATA-III.. I do music production with tons of audio channels and tons of CPU-intensive plugins.. It's common for me to spend 12+ hours/day in Logic X, so I'm looking for maximum performance with the type of work for I'm doing.. I am pretty anal-retentive about backing up my data.. Typically I will back-up important projects and folders several times a day to my Lacie 1TB external thunderbolt HD.. In addition to this, I also have a 2TB Apple Time Capsule connected via Ethernet, which is constantly doing its backups throughout the day.. With all this being said.. Would I benefit by linking these two superfast SSDs in RAID? (And increase their speed from 6G and 6G to a solid 12G, mega-fast) I already constantly backup important files several times through the day, as well as have my Apple Time Capsule running via Ethernet all day as well.. What do you guys think? I know they say RAID is risky because you can potentially lose all your data, but would I benefit from the increased speeds with the type of work I'm doing? I've also heard that RAID 0 is SLOWER for smaller file files.. Is that true? I work mostly with small(ish) audio files.. but am also frequently moving around large sample libraries/folders.. In addition, I'm constantly backing up my files and have Time Machine running.. So is this something I would even need to be worried about and would RAID be something that would be beneficial for me? thanks!
  11. Hello! I've always found this frustrating and never really found WHY Logic would ever think to make a feature like this.. I always carefully groom thru the menu's and preferences before I get into using software, so it's not something I ever miss, but it always strikes me as something that's kind of silly.. Why would you want a "-5" offset for Snap Automation? It's SO FRUSTRATING when you're working with automation points that land on the "phrase" and can't figure out why the automation won't be lined up.. and then you realize it's that stupid "-5" offset.. Is there something I'm missing here? Does it serve any practical purpose?
  12. Just curious, but would you be able to tell me the stats. for your MacBook Pro, both prior to upgrading and now (currently)? I want to see how my system compares to yours to get a feel of what I can "expect" out of this rather large investment haha.. thanks!
  13. Hello.. I'm looking to make some upgrades to my fairly-recent, Late 2011, MacBook Pro.. I'm currently working full-time in Logic X, spending at least 12+ hours/day working w/TONS of CPU-intensive plugins.. Here is my current setup: • MacBook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core i7 (Late 2011) .. 8gb 1333 MHz DDR3 .. 750gb 7200rpm HD I found out that my specific model of MacBook Pro can actually take 16gb of RAM versus the "maxed" 8gb of RAM that I originally bought it with from Apple.. When I bought the machine, I bought the maximum amount of RAM apple offered, as well as the top CPU and harddrive.. After doing some research last night, I found out that even though the 2011 MacBook Pro's are only "rated" for 8gb RAM (4gb x 2), that they can actually take 16gb RAM (8gb x 2)!.. Here's the RAM modules I was looking to upgrade it to: $151 for pair (8gb x 2) http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51s40BUSIcL.jpg Patriot Mac Series 16GB Apple SODIMM Kit (2X8GB) DDR3 1333 PC3 10600 204-Pin SO-DIMM PSA316G1333SK https://amzn.to/3zWqARB I figure that since I'm currently *very* unhappy with Logic X's performance on this somewhat, brand-new MacBook Pro, and that since I'm not in the current financial situation to be able to go out and buy the new Mac Pro garbage-can, my best bet for improving my workflow and Logic X's performance is to upgrade and make a beast out of my current machine.. Since I've now hit the point where I've actually "maxed out" my RAM w/16gb, and since CPU isn't really upgradeable for Mac's, I figure that the next best addition would be to deck out my machine with some SSD's.. I'm a big advocate of buying the most badass components possible when it comes to my computers, so price isn't really a factor when moving onto this next upgrade: Here's the SSD (was thinking about getting 2 of these @ 512gb/each) that I was looking to upgrade it with: $359/each http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/91L9OMW4SpL._SL1500_.jpg Samsung Electronics 850 Pro-Series 2.5" 512GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive Single Unit Version MZ-7KE512BW https://amzn.to/3QGjQ10 I know that the Samsung 850 Pro SSD's are a big on the pricey side, but from my research, I've found that they're ranked as the "best" available on the market.. I was planning on replacing my main hard drive in my MacBook Pro w/one of these to use as the OSX/startup/Logic X/apps drive, and then was catering to the idea of whether or not it'd be worth it to throw in a 2nd one? (same specs) in the SuperDrive optical bay.. and use that for music/samples/etc.. I'm not sure if a 2nd SSD would be considered "overkill", but at the same time, I hate having to rely on external devices which are typically slow and bottleneck (plus I only have 1 thunderbolt *used already by display* and 2x USB 2.0 ports).. I figure this way, I can have one disk reading while the other is writing, both at the same time.. and be able to have all my most important, frequently-accessed music/sample folders available lightning-fast.. Total Shopping List: • 1x Patriot Mac Series 16GB Apple SODIMM Kit (2X8GB) DDR3 1333 PC3 10600 204-Pin SO-DIMM PSA316G1333SK by Patriot = $151.06 • 2x Samsung Electronics 850 Pro-Series 2.5" 512GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive Single Unit Version MZ-7KE512BW by Samsung = $359 each * 2 = $708.00 + OWC Data Doubler to be able to put a SSD in my SuperDrive/optical bay ($35) + OWC SuperDrive Enclosure to be able to reconnect my SuperDrive ($33) Grand Total: $937.06 + tax = $1,027.49 (after tax + overnight shipping) Do you guys think these upgrades will provide me with a noticeable improvement in Logic X's performance? Also, do you think the 2nd SSD drive is worth it for the "less important" stuff that I frequently access? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Thanks!
  14. Hey, I was just wondering if there's a "Keep Window on Top" option in Logic X .. I like to keep my Sonalksis Free-G meter on my Stereo Out and like to have it visible at all times, but it's super pesky and always minimizes/disappears whenever I get to work on something else.. I checked the Settings on the Free-G and there was no "Keep Window on Top" option, so that's out of the window.. I'm not sure if this is something available in Logic, but it would certainly be a great feature + easy to implement! Any ideas on this or recommendations of any 3rd party apps I could check out that might be able to help me out with this? I tried searching google and found an app called "Afloat" which is supposed to do something like that but I'm not sure I've got it working or not, and couldn't really find any search matches that included 'plugin' in the description.. Thoughts?
