  1. Hi - While recording a podcast, I frequently drop markers so I can go back afterwards and edit specific problem spots. But as I make edits and drag my audio around, the markers don't follow, as they're locked to the timeline. Is there any way to change this? If the markers followed the audio, it would greatly streamline my workflow. Thanks in advance for any tips!
  2. Hi - I'm recording a spoken word podcast with a remote co-host via Skype, and currently recording both ends of the conversation (on multiple tracks) on my end. Ideally, to get a cleaner signal, I'd like to have my co-host record separately and send me his track, which I'd sync up in post-production. In past experiences, though, I've had a real issue with audio drift. His track never matches up perfectly with the one that I record on my side, either due to audio drifting or fluctuations in Skype. Is there a tip or trick, either within Logic or with the help of a plugin, that can help solve a problem like this? Audio drift is a common issue, so I'm hoping someone smarter than me has been able to address this. Thanks in advance!
  3. I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times, but I'm not sure of the correct search term. How do I change this (image attached) so that it displays time instead of bars? This appears near the top of the editing area in Logic Pro X, which I just downloaded and installed after years of using Logic Pro 9.
  4. Thanks for the heads-up on the signature. I've added it to the system and will include it below: Logic 9.1.8 OSX 10.9.5 MacBook Pro (late 2013) 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 16 GB 1600 MHz DD3 RAM Mackie Onyx 1220i (connected via Thunderbolt Adapter) Does this help?
  5. Hi all, I'm using Logic Pro 9 to record podcast audio. I'm recording on my MacBook Pro (retina, late 2013) via Firewire from a Mackie Onyx 1220i. My Mac doesn't have a Firewire plug, so I've got the Firewire to Thunderbolt adapter. On two separate occasions, I've seen static, buzzes, crackles or pops come through in my recorded tracks. This has NOT occurred consistently... just in two cases. In the first instance, it was quite severe, and for about a 15-minute period, one of my three tracks was completely unusable. At the time, I attributed this to a bad power strip and went out and bought a power conditioner. However, as of my last recording session, it happened again. It was not nearly as severe, but it was consistent for the full duration of my recording. Here's a sample of the static I was getting (about 1 second in): [soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/tyhildenbrandt/static[/soundcloud] This most recent case was minor by comparison, but still annoying. In doing some research on this, I believe the issue might be related to my I/O Buffer size. I had been previously recording with a buffer of 32; would bumping this up to 512 or 1024 fix the problem? I'm not doing any live monitoring of my audio through Logic, so latency isn't a huge deal for me (assuming my understanding of audio latency is correct). My only other thought is that this might have something to do with the Firewire-to-Thunderbolt adapter, but I'm not even sure how to check for that. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  6. Thanks for your reply, Eric. What's the best way, then, to control the input levels coming into Logic? I'm having a hard time understanding the best way to do this.
  7. All - Question for the board. I've got a Mackie Onyx 1220i Firewire Mixer plugged into my computer, which is recording multiple tracks through Apple Logic Pro 9. What I'm finding is that the faders on my board do not seem to alter the volume of the tracks coming into Logic. The gain knobs are the only ones that seem to alter volume. I've tried engaging the "Post Fader" buttons, but it still does not seem as though this functions. Does anyone have experience with this board and with this problem? I'm starting to wonder if my board is defective. Thanks in advance!
  8. I just sent another email this morning. I look forward to your reply.
  9. Hi, I sent an email to this site, but didn't receive any response and figured I'd ask around on this board. I'm a podcaster who just recently migrated my production workflow into Logic Pro 9 (I haven't upgraded yet). I know the basics of this software and have been using it to layer my audio and bounce out final versions. But, as I migrate towards more of a multitrack setup, I'd like to take more advantage of the built in tools within Logic to improve our audio quality. I don't have the time to sit and learn the multitude of settings, and was hoping I could hire someone to have a listen to my workflow, and my audio and offer some suggestions for how best to proceed. If anyone on the board can help or offer any suggestions, it'd be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
  10. Hi, I have a 4 track project that I am trying to export to a 96kb/s, 44.1kHz MONO MP3 file. No matter what I do, I cannot get this to work. I've perused some other threads on here, but cannot crack it. Any tips?
  11. Not opposed to learning to use Logic instead of the old way. Thanks for your help.
  12. Thanks for the reply, Eric. I guess I'm just used to the other sound editing tools I've used in the past. I know that, when making simple edits in GarageBand, it was time consuming to remove audio from within a region and then have to re-join all my regions and make sure they were synced up with other tracks. That's part of the reason I was editing mostly with Amadeus Pro.
  13. I apologize in advance for this question, as I'm sure it's both common and very basic. It goes without saying that I'm a newcomer to Logic after years of using a combination of Amadeus Pro and GarageBand to produce a podcast. As I switch my setup to one that will give me multitrack recording capabilities, I'm also making the move to Logic. My question: With lightweight sound editing tools like Audacity, Amadeus Pro, GoldWave, etc., you can highlight part of your waveform and hit delete without the track splitting into two parts. How can I configure Logic so that when I make edits, the software behaves in this fashion? Thus far, as in GarageBand, simple edits of this nature will split the track in two. Thanks in advance and sorry for the basic question.
