  1. On the topic of modifying the MAResourcesMapping.plist file - does this file influence the transparency/opacity of regions in the Tracks (Arrange) window? Having a user-defined level of transparency is a feature that has been requested from Apple for quite some time, it makes it much easier to see how transients align with the grid. Currently the only way to do this is to mute the track, only then does the region gain transparency and the ability to see the grid behind the region.
  2. Thanks - but I just discovered that this is really very easy to do in Ableton (simply dragging the audio file onto a midi track with a drum rack on it). This is an area where Flex could really be improved. So I will be quite happy to compose basic drum tracks in Ableton and export the midi into Logic for adding cymbals/fills and for integration with other instruments. For those curious as to where this comes from, it really comes down to my particular musical style (progressive metal) which is just not covered by any of Logic's Drummers (not even close, and I've messed around with Drummer quite a bit). The best drum composition tool I've found for prog metal is Egoist (Sugar Bytes) loaded up with an audio file that has just kick and snare; I can alter the measure structure (odd/mixed time signatures) to be as simple or complicated as I like (unfortunately Egoist lacks midi out). The Patterning app on iOS is another that is also great for this.
  3. I am hoping to use Flex to convert an drum audio file to midi - I'm trying to keep it super simple, the audio file has only 2 drum elements on it, kick and snare. I would like to convert this audio region into a midi region in which all the kick transients are mapped onto C1 and all the snare transients are mapped onto D1. What is the best way to accomplish this? If it helps, in the audio the snare hits peak a little higher than the kicks but I'm not sure how to use that to my advantage. I'm out of ideas.
  4. Anybody know of a good Frampton-style talkbox plugin that works well with LPX, that I could control with CCs and/or exp pedal?
  5. I have a custom 47-piece drum kit that I created back in Logic 9 for the EXS24, it matches the GM kit in all the basic drum instruments but has lots of additional kit instruments, and when I use the Step Editor the lane names are all customized to match the instruments on specific midi notes. When I imported this project into LPX the Step Editor recognized the lane assignments and it all works great. The only problem is that now I cannot import or copy this Lane Set to a new project. When I create a new EXS24 track and load the custom drum kit, the Step Editor does not give me the option of using the Lane Set from the original project (created in Logic 9), just GM Drums (among other less optimal choices). Apart from making a drums-only template in Logic 9 - and then importing that into LPX - is there a way within the LPX Arrange window to save a specific Lane Set for recall in a new project?
  6. Since midi FX now work as AUs in Logic X, I thought the same should be true for MainStage 3 - which (in theory) means one could use an AU step sequencer as a MS plugin and have it send to a synth plugin. Anyone try this? (yes, it's the old midi-in-Mainstage question asked again......)
  7. You could render the Drum Designer tracks as audio and then dump them into MainStage to use with Playback.
  8. This has really happened to no one else but me?
  9. Logic Pro X OS X 10.9.5 MBP 2.3GHz i7 (this also happens in Logic 9 Express BTW) I have a midi drum track, on a single EXS24 track, merged from several regions (Edit -> Join -> Regions) that I export from Logic (File -> Export -> Selection as MIDI File...) as a single standard midi file (Format 0). When I close the project and open the thus-exported midi file (using File -> Open), without fail it opens onto two tracks. Same if I import the midi file from within a new project (File -> Import -> MIDI File...), or even from within the same project where I did the export. What on earth am I doing wrong? The two files actually have different midi notes on them. I am baffled (exported midi file attached).
  10. The free software MIDI Monitor was a big help in diagnosing the messages that were being passed back & forth. http://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/
  11. I had the same problem when first using the Roland VG-99 together with MS, with MIDI sent via USB. The GK2 pickup's volume knob would send CC#7 and control MS volume while it was also controlling the VG's "foot volume". In the Roland unit there is a page that allows you to assign the pickup's volume knob to any VG function or MIDI CC, so I assigned it to control MIDI guitar volume only. Maybe the Fishman software allows you to do something similar....???
  12. How do I get MainStage to display the tempo (BPMs) when it is receiving MIDI Time Clock? I have an external unit (Eventide Eclipse) that is transmitting MIDI Time Clock, which is being received by other hardware units - but without a display of the tempo, I can't tell if MainStage is receiving it. At the Concert level I have "Get Tempo From MIDI Input" enabled, but the MIDI Beat Clock screen control just gives me a "1.1" no matter the clock tempo. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v241/bojerik/ScreenShot2014-05-14at55001PM_zpscf82a5f3.png What am I missing?
  13. Some kind of random pattern generator or random MIDI filter might also do the trick.
  14. I've spent an hour or so on it this morning, but I'm not sure if Logic can do this. I have a very nice workflow going to program drums on the EXS24 using HyperEditor to place all the hits. As a creative push, what I would like to do is to have some of the kit elements (e.g. certain notes) play at random when looping a region. In other words, some kit elements (Kick1, Snare1, HiHats) play their hits straight as written, but have the written hits on other kit elements (Kick2, Snare2, floor tom, etc) play or not play randomly, so that the pattern would be different and change each time through the loop. See the app Stochastik Drum Machine for the main idea, the problem with that app is that it won't do odd time signatures (and I like the samples I already have set up in Logic). Humanizer applied to velocity is sort of the right direction, but (A) it doesn't change during looping, and (B) it would be better to have Random applied to Note On rather than velocity, but this doesn't seem to be an option. I thought about randomizing Pitch within a 2-note range, with one note (C1) being the hit and the next one (C#1) just a sample with no volume. That works for On/Off but again using Transform this won't change with each trip through the loop. I am using Logic Express 9 but will soon purchase LPX so ideas on either would be welcome!
