  1. I have some drum samples I’ve recorded from a hardware synthesizer. I edited them, and have about a dozen. I want to drop them into a multi-output instance of Ultrabeat. I thought I could just drag them into the sample slot, but no. I tried dragging them to the desktop, but no. I tried exporting them to a folder first, but no.....for some reason thats not working either. It says, 1 file selected, zero files moved. I tried selecting them from the project audio files, but no. I know I can create an EXS24 track, but I much prefer the envelopes and capabilities of UB for this job. I feel like this should be simple, but I can’t figure it out. Thanks.
  2. Has this changed? Because there are artickes like this: https://ask.audio/articles/how-to-instantly-modulate-any-parameter-in-logic-pro-x ..which seem to indicate that anything can be “learned”. Now I know I’ve done it before also, but can’t seem to get it to work right now. Does it have anything to do with assigning smart controls? I’d like to assign an LFO to the oscillator blend slider. With the wavetable oscillators, should make for a nice vector synth type sound.aybe it depends on the version of Logic being used?
  3. I think, and always thought, that Alchemy as a VA is very underrated. I spent close to $500 for the Camel bundle a few years back, now its free. I still get to use all of the third party sound packs which is nice, but thats not what I'm here to discuss. The strength of Alchemy lies in its complex, both per sound source and global filter configurations. The ability to run up to 3 filters (LP/HP/BP/BR/Comb/ and all sorts of distortion) in numerous configurations is ridiculous. Sylenth has an excellent filter drive. Simply pull up a waveform, place a "tube" on the sound source filter one, then a LPF like SVF and crank the drive, then do whatever you want on the global filter, use the excellent graphic envelopes to shape something punchy, then head over to the global FX section using "Amp", "Phat Compressor", "Waveshaper", or "Distortion"......and if its not punchy yet, I don't know what to tell you. Even better, is that its super easy to layer a sine wave or triangle wave an octave down. Yes, most of the presets are pad oriented and thats its obvious area of expertise; long, evolving pad sounds.........still, I think i t can do almost anything, and pretty darn well. Layering samped sounds with VA or some wavetables is really powerful. Didn't know we had a patch sharing area. Thats great! I'm not much of a preset guy myself, but I like to see/hear what other people do, how they utilize instruments to inspire ideas for myself.
  4. I think I thought wrong, from back when Logic when was still 32-bit.....and the idea was to move to 64-bit to utilize the 8GB RAM on my iMac at the time. So now the sky is the limit. 32 GB it is. What are the best recommendations for back-ups? I currently use a 2TB Time Capsule. If I'm adding external HD for music based operations, will that HD back up with the my Mac HD as well? Or would it be wiser to do a hard back-up periodically of the music HD to another external HD? Thanks
  5. Wow.....okay......SSD, definitely an option. The 512GB SSD is too small for all of my current stuff, so I'd have to move things before doing the data transfer. Also.....does it make any sense at all to go 32GB of RAM? I thought 64-bit LPX could only utilize up to 8GB RAM? Thanks.......Apple has this amazing sale today....you get a $150 gift card with a $2000 purchase ;-P @ <10% off
  6. Greeting LPHelpers: I bought my first iMac (late 2012 21.5") about four years ago, and dove head first into LP9. Still making music like crazy after all this time, and using LPX daily. However, my iMac HD is almost full, and my four year old machine is starting to show its age. I use a combination of virtual and hardware instruments. I do use some very CPU heavy things like Uhe Diva, and other synths. Even when using hardware recordings only, as the mixing plugin count climbs, especially 3rd party plugs that are a must (I try to use as many LPX plugs as I can), my machine begins to trip up. I never took the time to transfer my audio files to an external HD, as I know many do. So its time for a new iMac or Mac Pro. I think I want the 27" iMac, get some upgrades in processor and RAM. Regardless, no fusion drive, right? 1 TB is still the same as it was four years ago (kinda ridiculous). If I buy a 2TB external HD, what exactly do I want to put on it? LPX itself? LPX samples and apple loops? 3rd party samples and loops? 3rd party plugins? All old projects and recordings? I was totally new to DAWs when I started this. I'm much more savvy now, and will NOT update at all until I absolutely have to. I seriously think when I updated the OS about six months ago.....ON ACCIDENT, my machine fell off a cliff. Thanks, any tips and advice appreciated as I make this leap to a new computer. Peace!
  7. Not yet......ya think that'll do it?
  8. Greetings LPX Helpers, I usually don't update my OS until I have to, and I may have updated recently on accident upon a restart or something. Now, EVERY SINGLE TIME, I click to open a plugin, I get the rainbow wheel of thought for about 5-10 seconds. This has NOT EVER been an issue for me in LPX. I've opened the activity monitor to see if there are CPU spikes, RAM overload, but nothing. I've even run tests with small projects using only Logic stock software, but it doesn't matter. I have LPX on my MacBook Air, and its much smoother but that's not my music computer. I'm on OS 10.11.4 I'm using LPX 10.2.2 Any ideas? I'm using an iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2012), 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Thanks.
  9. Okay, that's a big help thanks. I'm not in front of Logic right now but I'll try this out later. So I'm looking for "Producer Kit" after I olen a Drummer and Drum Kit?
  10. Hey LPHelpers: As a long-time user of logic I only recently discovered the Drummer plugin. As an amateur electronic musician I've never experimented with acoustic kids before. I have to say that I absolutely love the sound of it with some Downtempo/ Chill-out music that I making. While drum kit designer allows for multiple outputs giving me the opportunity to individually process each channel, which is nice in addition to opening Ultrabeat and swapping out logic samples for my own, Drummer does not allow this. I worked around it by copying the drummer track numerous times and then soloing each instrument on each channel. Still, this causes problems if you are using fill which show up on multiple channels requiring you to do heavy volume automation which doesn't always work so well if the drum sounds ring out a bit. I've been looking at BFD3 and SSD4, then there is Superior Drummer as well. All seem to have their benefits and drawbacks. Some seem to rely on MIDI packs like Superior, which is cool, because then I could layer some sounds of my own should I choose. Logic's Drummer does seem to be a unique bird the way it handles ghost notes, playing behind or in front, and fills. I can not get over not being able to mix each sound alone though. Anyone have experience using Drummer and other plugins? Can anyone reccomend something that would be similar. I'd live to download and demo everything, but most are huge files, and time is short with Black Friday sales approaching. SSD4 is only $99 which seems like a great deal. Any guidence or shared experience would be helpful. I'm making mostly slow (88-100 bpm) electronic tunes, and using the accoustic kits adds a nice lounge feel. Thanks!
  11. Greetings LPH: I recently purchased an Eventide H9Max stomp-box to use with my synthesizers. I can get it to work fine running a synth directly into it, and then into my interface, but wanted to set up an FX send/return channel. I thought I could figure this out on my own, but I'm hitting a wall. Everything I find online seems to be for Logic 9. Basically, I have a mono output synth, going into my audio interface (MOTU 828x) input 3 I have output 5, running into the H9, which in turn is going into inputs 1 & 2. I'm not getting anything here. I'm sure this is just to do with my lack of experience and these routings in Logic X. Any help would be appreciated.
  12. I thought this would be an easy thing to figure out, and I feel like I did it often in LP9.....or actually, if I dropped an audio file onto the arrange page in LP9, I could timestretch or not. In LPX.....any sample (with tempo information, like a loop I want to edit) I drop onto my arrangement.......3rd party or Logic's own, automatically stretches to tempo. I don't want this. How can I disengage it? The only thing I found via search was the LP9 manual, but this is somehow different. Maybe because I'm still using LP9 terminology? any help appreciated. Thanks.
  13. Glad I found this, I've been scratching my head since yesterday why I can see the meter 1 on MOTU 828x, but when I assign that channel to input 1 in Logic, nothing. Duh, it's actually input 3.....that's kinda dumb on MOTU's part. Typically the inputs on the front are 1 & 2, then 3, 4, 5........ Oh well, gonna get my template set-up today so it shouldn't be a problem in the future but when you're rewiring and have a crazy mess of cables, that is not very convenient. Thanks LogicProHelp!
  14. Thanks for the reply. I'm on a: Late 2012 21.5" iMac 2.7GHz quad i5 8 GB RAM Honestly, I don't need a new machine, but may be required to give it up.........marital property and all. Just want to make the right move if I need to. I'd love a 27". I use mostly hardware instruments, but mix entirely ITB. Only on my most complex projects will it occasionally hiccup. I reserve most oversampling for offline bounce and its typically no problem.
  15. LPHelpers: I'm about to buy a new Mac. Not sure yet whether I'm going iMac or Mac Pro.......but wanted to ask about RAM. I was under the impression that the move from 32-bit to 64-bit allowed my current iMac to utilize more than 4GB RAM (max in 32-bit), but how much does it utilize? I can't find an answer. Will it make any difference to have 16GB over 8GB. Can LPX even use that much (16GB)? Also, the more cores the better, correct? Fusion Drive is still crap for music production, right? Thanks
