  1. Hey all! Im trying to create some custom controller assignments. So the way my console is setup it has 40 faders that are analog faders, controlled by HUI as a control surface in logic for automation. All that works great. Each fader has 4 push buttons, select, record, solo and mute and they trigger the appropriate commands in logic that they are intended to. I would like to remap those buttons to change it to changed the automation status on the channel. So for example I would like to change the mute button to trigger read, solo to trigger touch, and record to trigger write. Hopefully that makes sense. I tried mucking around in the expert controller assignments panel and I was unable to get it working. Any direction here would be awesome. Thank you Matt
  2. By audio bin I mean the project audio browser. Both the floating and the one embedded in the arrange window.
  3. Hey all, Is anyone else getting a major lag and beach ball when opening the audio bin in the last 3 Logic updates. As far as i can tell it started when they added the Audio Groups feature in the bin, but not exactly sure. Either way it seems to be getting worse north better here. Can take 10 seconds easy, sometime more on large sessions to open the bin.. Any Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Matt
  4. The send issue IS a bug @David Nahmani - but for now setting the send to post pan works as intended. As for the Panner - you dont even need to turn the speakers off. Just pan directly to the speakers you want.
  5. Hey Jan, Love to discuss this! Your observations about logic and the sends when spatial audio is engaged are 100% correct and that is unusable in my opinion. Because of that, and a few other reasons I’m happy to discuss I do not mix dolby atmos with the Logic Spatial Audio turned on. I mix using the Dolby Renderer, but I use it uniquely to logic which IMO makes it a superior mix DAW to protools. So I configure logic to run at 7.1.4 and then i put a multi mono dolby atmos panner on the surround output off the mix session. In the I/O settings for logic I configure the channel outputs for LT/RT/LTS/RTS to be 11/12/13/14 respectively. Then I setup the multimono panner to allow a separate setting for every channel in the “Editor” panel and I place the objects for the top speakers where they should go and assign the outputs in the panner plugin. I leave all other locations unassigned. Then I run logic over the Dolby Atmos Bridge. This allows me to create a 7.1.4 bed in logic using only 4 objects. I can then I use 7.1.4 reverbs and upscalers like Penteo in the bed and it goes to the full 7.1.4 array. The Logic surround panner is quirky but once you learn to understand how it’s laid out you can pan to any place in the 7.1.4 space that you would want. There are a zillion reasons why having a true 7.1.4 bed is the best way to work. I do still use a few objects for various reasons tho and its important to note that when using an object outside of the bed the panning issues you have with 3d objects. Protools is the only place in which the Panner properly tracks to the ends on an object. I hope for a time that I can mix atmos in logic but theres still a lot of progress to be made there. They are fixing things with every revison but were not there yet. Let me know if you have any questions about my setup, its confusing to explain I know. Matt Hennessy
  6. Hey David! Zero issues with the Dolby Atmos Panner. The function of that plugin tho is placing that track into the atmos 3d space. The Penteo upmixer will generate a surround field from a stereo file. One of things I use it for a lot is taking a stereo reverb and generating a surround field from it. It can also take a stereo Pad or music bed and make it surround. Penteo does it great job of this, and is also the only upmixer than matches Logics channel layout. All the other upmixers use a different channels order so they are useless in logic. does that make sense?
  7. Hey all - Matt Hennessy here, owner and chief Engineer at VSOP Studios Chicago. We are the first large format Atmos room to come online here in Chicago and do a good amount of work in the format now. As a facility were based around an Analog Console in the A/Atmos Room but we run both Logic Pro and Pro Tools as DAW hosts. Clearly ATMOS work gets done in the DAW and from mix stems and often there is need to upmix stereo content to 7.1/7.1.2/7.1.4 to use the space to its highest potential. We tried every upmixer on the market and due to the fact that apple decided on a different channel layout in Logic for 7.1.4 than any other DAW there is only one option that will even work correctly in Logic. We selected the Penteo 16 Pro Upmix plugin because it is the ONLY option that works, but also because we felt it sounded great. It’s one of the few upmixers that gives you a lot of control over where the energy goes. Anyway - I’m putting this information here because I spent days trying to figure out why nothing worked in logic and couldn’t find ANYTHING so hopefully the new person can find this and just go straight to Penteo. This forum has always been so helpful to me on my Logic journey I wanted to make sure I could pay this info forward. Good luck and Happy Mixing.
  8. Hey guys. Asking the hive mind here. I know we have discussed here before but is Touch/Latch Automation with MCU still broken in the newest revision of LPX? Here the last thread I read re this issue: viewtopic.php?f=42&t=129390&p=676016&hilit=touch+automation+broken#p676016 Im still stuck on 10.3.3 due to not being on the most current OS and before I create the headache of updating the OS I thought I would ask here if its working. Everything in 10.3.3 is fine for me except this and I can't find a single way to get around the issue. Just for those unfamiliar... Touch/Latch works flawlessly from the mouse but when writing from a MCU control surface, in a session that contains more than 2 or 3 active plugins, its non functional. Thanks in advance to anyone who can dig into this and let me know. Holiday slowdown would be the optimal time to up the OS but i REAAAALLLY don't want to do it if I don't have to. Thanks Matt Hennessy VSOP Studios Chicago
  9. Just out of curiosity is there any way to filter all the CC7 messages from effecting the master fader in general?
  10. I have the automation on the master fader in the arrange and that doesn't help, I will try this tho with tho with th MCU thanks!
  11. Definitly at CC7 from the MC. Why is anther question I haven't been able to address. Best I can tell is for some reason fader 8 of my MCU is sending a message to the master fader as welt the cannel its supposed to control. Seeing as I can't seem to figure out why this is, or how to stop it, my next plan was to try and filter out the message from reaching the master fader. Thats unfortunitly above my pay grade in the environment, thus I came here for some help... Until I can figure out WHY the MCU is doing this, stopping it from derailing my session would be a huge help..
  12. Hey guys! Having an issue in LPX that is a session stopper and I need desperate help. While recording, I believe for some dumb reason, my controller is sending a message to drop the master fader object to all the way down. This kills all the output level to the desk and can happen 2-3 times in a playback, or not at all. I can't figure out whats sending the message so the best solution for me right now is to find a wy to completely disable that MASTER FADER object. Not the stereo out fader, the VCA MASTER OBJECT. ANY help here is AWESOME. Thanks guys. Matt - VSOP Studios
  13. Hey guys - Long time, which is good cause we have had ZERO ISSUES for a long time. So we run a large Format Analog Console with Logic X. Interfacewise we are running 64 channels of Antelope Orion 32+. They are 2 separate interfaces run via a dedicated thunderbolt connection for each interface (using 2 separate ports) Using aggregate i/o we have them ganged together to make a 64 io interface in logic. Workes/worked great. The orion interface until recently maxed out at 32 channels per thunderbolt connection. There are 32 analog io, 32 MADI io 4 ADAT and a sp/dif. you could any combination of them at any given moment as long as it maxed out at 32 channels. Cool. A recent soft/firmware update raise the max number of channels per thunderbolt connection to 64 so not you can run all 32analog io PLUS any digital you want. EACH interface now takes up 64 io in the aggregate IO now raising the number of total io to 128. Cool, but a problem. the analog IO was channels 1-64 in logic before the update and now after the update the analog IO moves to 1-32 and then 65-96. This is an issue as I don't really want to re-route all the open mixes to get them back on the correct channels on the console. Antelopes solution is to run MADI the second interface to the digital in of the first and then it goes back to the way it was, via only a single thunderbolt. This would be fine but I was using a MADI to AES box to drag all my digital gear and I would lose the ability to do this by maxing out the MADI on both interfaces doing this. Is there anyway to get logic to see channels 65-96 on the interface as channels 33-64 in the session? Some sore of environment routing that might work? Some alternative to agrogate IO that allows me to skip channels? Thanks guys. I know if anyone knows the answer its you. VSOP Studios.
  14. Worked. Thank you for that! Feels so much better.
  15. Current studio rig is in Mavericks, with both Logic Pro X and Logic Pro 9 installed. We still do the majority of our work in Logic Pro 9, but of course, when you simply double click to open the session, it defaults to X Is there any way to make 9 the default while also having X installed? Thanks
