  1. Hi Dave The suggestion of changing my username would be a good solution, so the threads can remain. Please change it into : DDDBBB212 (or something similar) PS: can you delete any text references in the posts of this thread regarding my ”old” username?
  2. David, Can you be so kind to respond and confirm deletion of all content I posted on this forum?
  3. David, I don't want to sound difficult, but I kindly ask you to delete my account and all subsequent forum posts. It is my right to ask you to respect my privacy, and it is my right to demand that a website owner deletes a user account and data, upon request. Please be so kind to confirm your OK on the matter, it would be highly appreciated.
  4. Recorded/composed this on the spot yesterday ... Its not finished, but to me it has something catchy (with the background synths). I am not too happy about the section after the verse, perhaps I should use other chords. The bass also seems a bit too loud (and not always timed correctly).... Looking forward to some feedback. 5. Absolutely fabulous, excellent ... LOVE IT! (I think an added guitar solo - type David Gilmour- would be awesome at 3:35)
  6. I have listened to the song and al though I am not completely into dance music, I do listen with great attention. I am not perfect myself, and I make mistakes as well, but I hope you can consider my comments as constructive criticism. - distortion starting at 0:08-0:10 and at 0:15 - 0:29 is a over the top (try to lower the distortion) - in this same section the vocal should be higher up in the mix (as in, more audible) - I like the chords/section starting at 0:32 - Increase the ”punch” of the bass drum starting at 0:39 - In my opinion you should remove the ”wind” sound effect at 0:43 (too cliche) - At 0:48 the keyboards/synth is slightly overpowering in the mix (turn it down a bit I would suggest) - Also the effect that you applied on the synth (”pounding” effect) is nice, but as it goes on for a long time, it is too much. Try to leave the effect off (or try another type of effect) - Synth at 0:55 should be a bit brighter in the mix (EQ it) - Try to reprogram/mix the snare drum starting at 1:11 (it sounds like a machine gun). A bit of EQ-ing and just a millisecond of space between hit of the snare drum will make it sound better - Again at 1:20 you use the same ”swirling” effect on the synth, and it gets boring after you hear it a long time (not easy to listen to) - Use some ”volume automation” on the snaredrum getting back into the mix at 1:30 (or use a an EQ automation from low-high) - After 1:35 you kind of lost me as you used the same effect again on the synth/keyboard. It is very confusing to the ear. - In the same section the vocal gets completely snowed under (can hear it in the mix, but you should turn up the volume) - Nice part at 2:28 - Volume automation (?) is too present at 2:33-2:40 (but the vocal level after 2:40 is really ok) - Turn up and EQ the snare drum at 3:20 so it stands out more. - Also the snare-drum built up at 3:36 should be more prominent in the mix (EQ it / higher volume / use automation) - Same at 4:15 (snare drum should be EQ-ed , spaced a millisecond between beats to make it stand out) - I like the outro (at 4:48) but use EQ automation (with regards to going from muted to bright)
  7. You are very welcome. I'm an amateur musician myself (playing piano for over 25+ years, guitar over 20 years) and have always learned to play music by heart. After a decade of not recording any music I picked up my hobby again around 18 months ago with Logic Pro 9.1.8 then Logic Pro X due to me buying a Mac. You could say I am a beginner and my ”personal” problem is that I typically have an idea in my head that I never completely finish (shame on me haha). I made (and make!) ”mixing mistakes” myself when I started using Logic Pro and when using 3rd party plugins, and over time I have managed to read a lot on mixing/mastering as well as watching a lot on videos Youtube. I then invested in some plugins (mostly Waves) and gradually I managed to make my mixes sound a bit bitter. I still could do better, but hey, I am just an amateur haha I am glad that I could be of help, and I really did the mix on the fly (30-40 minutes). I decided not to change any of the chosen instruments, al though I would advise you investing some money in some good software synths. With regards to mixing, the way I do it is to record all instruments without any effects (and just use the instrument presets as they are provided), then fine-tuning the volume levels. After that I typically add the Waves LoAir plugin to the kick drum and use the Maag EQ4 on the snare. I also use the TDR Feedback Compressor (with the ”master glue” setting) on all drum tracks (al though very little) and some ”stereo imagers” in case I want some instruments wide in the mix. I then literally try out other plugins (the Red 37-51 is very nice) and the J37 (Abbey Road tape emulator) on the master track. I really try to add a bit of effect with each plugin as the music has to ”glue” in the end. Also make sure you have enough ”headroom” left on the master bus for the 2nd stage (which is using the WAV file which I bounced and further fine-tune it) Also never use a multiband limiter on any of the recorded tracks nor on the master bus of your session (this is how I do it). Just bounce the track as a Wav file, and then do the fine-tuning by using for instance the PSP Mastercomp plugin, the TDR Feedback Compressor (which is a free plugin!) and the Waves L3 Multi Maximiser. If I not completely happy with the bass/mids or highs, I sometimes also add an EQ (Red 37-51) or the Waves Scheps 73 or the Maag EQ4. I try to tweak the plugins very little, just a little of each. In the beginning when I was mixing songs, I would overdo it (sometimes I still do) and if you have been working on a song for some time, just leave it aside for a day (or a few hours) then re-listen to it to get a fresh start. When you're listening to a mix for many many times, your ears kind of deceive you. Through this forum I have asked advise on my mixes, and it has been very helpful to hear what people like in a mix (or what they dislike) and to make the according changes. I just finished a little demo myself (again, not a finished version) and al though it sounds nice, I am still working on it: [soundcloud] [/soundcloud] or this one: [soundcloud] [/soundcloud] (its not completely to my liking yet as I overused the Abbey Road J37 tape emulator)
  8. I have just spent around 30-40 minutes on the mix of the song. What I have done is to add some punch, to decrease the hissing of the percussion, and to brighten the song a bit. In my opinion this percussion (with the hiss) should be left out completely, but as it is your song I left it in, but put it more in the background. I have not altered (nor muted) any of the channels, apart from adding plugins to a number of them.. There is one part that I am not so happy with and thats the built up of the drum (you used automation on the kick drum) whereas it sounds a bit gritty. Once I had the ”mix” done, I bounced it as a Wave file, and reimported it on an audio track and applied a few plugins (a bit of Waves LoAir, Waves Scheps 73, Waves Red 37-51 , TDR Feedback Compressor II -mastering/glue option- , Waves Kramer Tape (s), Fabfilter Pro-MB). Using my headphones (Sony MDR series) the bass sounds good, and I hope it sounds as similar through your system as I intended. As mentioned, this is just a quick first try of improving the mix and also be aware that even though the actual mix down I made is of higher quality compared to the one on Soundcloud which is 128kbs MP3. Let me know your feedback (positive/negative) [soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/buc021/first-mixing-try-amigos-ii[/soundcloud] PS: Is it me, or do the synths in this version sound a bit off-beat (perhaps something went wrong when bouncing the song, I am not sure)
  9. Totally agree with the previous comments. Remove the chipmunk vocals and get some real vocals on there ... It would sound awesome (as the song itself is really really nice!)
  10. You're welcome. If needed, you can upload the Logix Pro X session here (assuming you are using Logic Pro instruments only) and I can give it a try to mix it a bit...
  11. Hi there, Just listened to your song, and the way it it is musically constructed is nice. But there is too much hiss/brightness in the drums/percussion which you need to EQ down/De-ess down as it overpowers the song. I would suggest to also turn up the synth that starts at 0:20 as its too much in the background (panning it left/right could also create some space in the song) The bass line could use a bit of sub bass and perhaps using the Waves L3 multi maximiser on the master track (just one of the plugins you could use) to make it sound more ”pounding” http://www.waves.com/1lib/images/products/plugins/full/l3-ll-multimaximizer.jpg
  12. I could, but I used a number of 3rd party plugins (mostly Waves and the MAAG EQ4). I can upload the Logic file, but if you don't have these plugins,it won't work on your system.
  13. Changed it very slightly ....The composition (and the midi automation) remained the same.... Just changed the snare drum a bit (that was all). PS It was the OP who uploaded the ”Logic” file ...
