  1. Hey, Long time no post. After not using any DAW much over the last couple of years, I have put the latest Logic on the latest Mojave. I got 16GB of ram. No external drives. I put in a software instrument playing a simple pattern. Then I turned on the guitar through the RME UCX. Recorded four bars. But on playback there is some latency issue. And the guitar and simple synth are not aligned right. I checked the buffer settings in Logic Pro and put it down to 64. But still problems. I'm pretty sure it is something simple that I've just forgotten because I was able to use the same hardware with 2014 Logic and 2014 OSX Mavericks without any latency issues. What did I forget to set? Thanks!
  2. Thanks dany. Yeah, that is what I was wondering about. That last comment. I read the thread carefully and wasn't sure what you guys had decided. @ Jordi: Notice how dany actually understood that I was asking abot his very last comment? He knew I had read the thread. Funny that.
  3. I was just asking if the two guys who are way ahead of me in terms of knowledge actually agree with each other about the functionality. It would take me days to have any reliable opinion about the subject.
  4. Yeah, I read the thread. But it seemed like the guys weren't in complete agreement about what was going on. Also, the view on some other forums seems to be that Logic doesn't have real VCAs and that some functionality is missing.
  5. So, what is the consensus? There is a lot of VCA talk now because Cubase just came out with VCA and the reviews are really good. Can we do VCA with Logic? My understanding is that it's not quite the same thing.

    Crash Cause

I have noticed a lot of people saying on the internets that Logic never crashes for them. I on the other hand experience a crash every 4 hours or less. I usually work from a basic project. I open it and immediately do a Save As and give it the name of whatever tune I am working on that day. I have a lot of tunes. The base project has about 15 tracks and there are about a half a dozen virtual instruments, Logic guitar settings from the library, Logic electric bass settings from the library, an EXS24 with some electronic drum samples called up, and that is about it. The crashes typically happen when I am recording audio. I think the most often scenario is that I use undo a lot! So I record a punch in and if I screw it up then I just undo it. That might happen a few times. And I might have several punch ins to do. Then at some point, Logic will just vanish from the computer. That is not the only scenario, just the plurality scenario--maybe 30% of the time. Now somebody was saying that often crashes are caused by third party plugins. But the thing is, the crashes have been happening from day 1, actually day 2 or 3, and I didn't have any third party plugins in the beginning. You can see the system below. Any idea what the cause is? I thought that crashes where endemic to Logic, but now I am starting to wonder whether there is something wrong with my set up.
  7. might be one of them "instant" services that don't really do much mastering. There's a lot of poor products out there in the wild Thanks Well, for something that is badly recorded, he sure has a lot of hits! You can my update above about my faulty memory of that mastering office.
  8. I have an audio bassline that I want to come in just before the beat throughout. How can I do that? Should I just quantize it and then gently push the region over? Is there a way to option nudge a region? Is there some other way to do it? Thanks
  9. Maybe he was just doing the dithering in the office. He certainly had some funky waveform on the computer. But it was a small office. Maybe only 2 meters by 3 meters. Is it possible he mastered somewhere else and just did the dithering there? For some reason I remember him saying something about dithering. He was the number two guy. The main guy was in charge of printing CDs. But they actually sent that work out to some plant. They outer office was big, but the mastering dude was in the small office. UPDATE: OK, actually my memory was bad. The mastering was done somewhere else with real monitors, etc and was very detailed. The guy in the small office was just organizing the tracks for the printing. Maybe the waveform was just for looking at how much silence betwen tracks. Sorry, getting old.
  10. Well, $ would be the main reason. The same reason I didn't hire a professional contra bassoon player. So, I guess I could sharpen the question this way: would you rather higher a professional mixer or a professional contra bassoon player with your last 200 bucks? A second reason would be that the standards are not as high since it won't be played on the radio or TV. A third reason would be that it doesn't have all manner of sonic insanity that one finds in the latest Katy Perry GMO music. I'm not disputing what you say, I'm just trying to figure out the actual value of it compared to other things.
  11. Bad analogy as I have a low opinion of dentists! The one time I hired a professional mastering engineer, I remember he had some sexy gear, but I remember him working in a relatively small office. Maybe he wasn't as good as I was told!? Do you think this was professionally mastered?
  12. triplets, How long do you think it would take to learn to master reasonably well? How many hours? Not Beyonce, but say an album of children's songs. Thanks
  13. A friend wants to send me a tune in progress. It sounds like he has mostly audio ie no MIDI. He uses Reaper. What do I tell him to send me? I don't know squat about working cross platform. Thanks
