  1. I haven't tried this yet. Ive been bouncing the audio in Logic with Kontakt loaded as a software instrument.. However it got me thinking...if I launched Kontakt as a standalone and setup as you suggested, would Kontakt also respond to a midi region in Logic? In other words, if I recorded the midi from Konktete's Beat Shifter to a region in Logic, could I then change the midi notes in the region and it would playback correctly in the stand alone Kontakt? Or is it a situation where Kontakt only starts/stops playback?
  2. I've also figured out how to automate Kontakt to Logic and my controller. The only problem? If I change instruments in Kontakt I have to remap Kontakt midi cc page. So for example, If I open and load a .nki patch, map the midi cc's to the smart controls, then change Kontact preset, the midi map disappears. It's almost like I'd have to save each instrument as a Logic mapped preset. There doesn't appear to be a global midi map in Kontakt unless I'm missing something or theres another way to do it.
  3. I've been making Green Apple Loops with no trouble. I'm new to Logic and have hundreds of MIDI loop folders that I've been converting so I can easily scroll through and audition them in the Loop Browser. Mostly I use Ultrabeat or Battery 4. I just drag a midi file onto a software track, play though it and select a kit from UB or Batt4, then right-click on the midi region and select "Add to loop library" which ALWAYS results in a searchable Green Apple Loop. In fact, I see no way of creating a Blue Audio Apple Loop from a midi loop unless you bounce or mix down to audio.
  4. Yeah I d/l'd that a couple weeks back and haven't figured it out but I'll play with it. I'm pretty new to Mac and Logic.
  5. ok...so, I see where I can click a "Bnc" button on the bottom of the "Output" mixer channel strip that imports a file into the project files window. From there I can drag it into an audio track....so that'll work. I was used to Cubase on PC and I could just select tracks and bounce, which would auto import to new tracks...just a diff way of working I guess. Everything is so diff in Logic. Like midi cycle merge...I haven't figured it out but I see the Take Folders and that seems to work....just differently. It seems like I get something going musically, then I spend an hour looking for a button. I swear it took me a day to figure out how to cut a region in half with the scissors...haha
  6. An external midi track would control an outboard hardware synth...like if you had a Korg Triton or such or an outboard rack mounted synth with no keyboard.
  7. Well, it appears this has come up on the KVR forum. Logic cannot route midi from one track to another. While trying to figure out a workaround, I discovered you cannot bounce the output of an AUX send but have to export/import...wow. just wow.
  8. Hi guys! I have the SonicCouture Konkrete Library. Basically it's a glitch-drum machine that has a play button in the gui to run midi scripts? So, I want to mix a loop down. I have an instance setup on a MIDI track and have created a region. The Konkrete pdf says: (my problem is step#4) RECORDING THE MIDI OUTPUT OF THE BEAT SHIFTER If you would like to record the beats coming out of Konkrete for further tweaking or composition in your DAW, then this is how to do it: 1. In Kontakts options screen, go to : engine>send MIDI to outside world 2. Choose ‘Script generated ccs and script generated notes. 3. Create a new MIDI track in your DAW. 4. Select Kontakt 5 as its MIDI input source. 5. Hit play on the Beat Shifter and record in your DAW and you should be recording the Beat Shifter MIDI. Refer to your DAW manual for more details on setting up MIDI channels etc. How do I select Kontakt as a "MIDI input source" on a midi track in Logic? Is this something done in the MIDI environment? Thanks for any help!
  9. Or, at least reorder the channel strips? Here's what happens...When I add a multitimbral instance of Kontakt, I originally create 1 instrument on 1 track. I click on the "+" symbol on the channel strip of Kontakt and add 3 more Aux channels, highlight them and select "Create Tracks". The issue is that I want the 4 tracks to all be together on the mixer, but the click track separates Kontakt 1 from Kontakt 2-4. Am I missing something obvious?
  10. I bought a couple midi packs from http://groovemonkee.com/ which were performed by real drummers, and they sound freaking fantastic to me using LPX drummer.
  11. I can't speak for the Arturia, but I have the MPK49 and love it. The pads are fantastic IMO and respond to light touches. Plus there are 4 banks for the pads which means I can use all of the kit in Battery 4...plus they light up (haha, but it's cool!) The faders and pots also have 4 banks which is more than I'll ever want to control, but it means I can use Bank1 for Logic's mixer and Bank2 for synths. Or if I have alot of tracks, Bank1 +2 - Mixer/ Bank 3-4 synths. The transport works great with Logic Pro X**. The keys feel very nice and have after touch. Overall I'm thrilled. **One issue: The loop button didn't work for cycle mode ....no sysex at all when pressing the button. Akai gave me an RMA and I just shipped it off today at their expense to a repair shop in Reno. I am keeping my fingers crossed it comes home fixed.
  12. I'll add that I'm experiencing the same problem. Most often I'll have 1 track with a 8-16 bar midi loop running while I'm auditioning presets on a synth or drumkit. Sometimes its an AU from NI Komplete sometimes it's an LPX plug. But suddenly LPX freezes and starts emitting a high pitched piercingly loud crackling sound similar to white noise but broken up...and my IMac is completely frozen....no mouse, no keyboard force quit, nothing. All I can do is hold the power button on my iMac to shut it down. I don't have an outboard sound I/O yet so I'm using the internal sound and speakers. It scares the crap out of me every time because its so loud and jarring.
  13. Well, I never really figured this out. So, I had to drag the file into Logic where it creates 20-30 individual tracks. Pick a drumkit (or whatever) and save each individual file as a Green Apple Loop. I guess that'll work, at least they're now in a list where I can audition them. I wish there was a batch process for this as it takes enormous amounts of time to convert all my old MIDI files.
  14. ok...figured it out. 1) Deselect "Replace" on the tool bar beside the "Cycle" button. 2) Go to File> Project Settings> Recording - select MIDI/Overlapping Recordings/Join with Selected Regions 3) Select/Arm Record track 4) Hit Record, Select MIDI Region 5) Play individual notes. man, i was racking my brain. I assumed if the track was selected you could just record, but nOOoo, you have to select the region AFTER hitting record button. weird.
