Thanks for all of your help Eric. I guess I just always have the desire to fully understand. This can be good and bad. Your fix has solved the problem.

Prior to this problem, I hadn't installed or updated anything. after this problem started, apple suggested going from logic 10.0.3 to 10.0.7 and I updated focusrite drivers rom 3.3 to 3.4, but this didm't change anything as far as I could tell.

Sure, I'm fairly new to this and can tell the computer is being taxed. My original point I was trying to make was that the problem didn't occur with that amount of plug-ins, but there was a sudden change and on projects with fewer channels and plug-ins i had a problem, and then the problem became universal.

definitely looking into a ram upgrade. I'm really only using stock Logic plug-ins. Compressor, eq, and a couple of reverb and delay instances mostly. maybe an amp or pedal simulator, and secondary compressors, leslie cab.

Eric, Thank You! Low Latency Mode seems to be working. I am still confused however. I don't need low latency mode when skipping the interface using the computers built-in mic for test recording. Also, I have loaded previously recorded tracks into a new project that is running no plug-ins, and still have to use low latency mode. I also don't understand how this would start happening on a project that has about 10 tracks running 40-50 plug-ins when I have other projects with 20 or more tracks running 80-100 plug-ins that didn't need low latency mode before but does now. Although the low latency mode is working, again Eric, thank you, there seems to be another issue.

Why would this occur without warning on most(if not all, I haven't tried every project)? It worked the day before without any changes being made. "Try using Low Latency mode when recording on a problematic project to see if it makes a difference. (It should). I will try Low Latency mode on problematic projects. Hope it works! I wonder if my failing hard drive made some kind of error that is hanging on. Thoughts?

theambertheatre, thanks, but the recording delay is happening on some existing projects, but not on new projects. both new and existing projects have the same settings. I have tried to change the settings in the existing projects with no change in recording delay. This all started on 9/30/14 and had never happened before.

Buffer size was at 128. At the request of Apple(Applecare phone in help), i changed it to 64 with no discernible change.

Ok, so for the latest, I've been on the road, and away from my studio. I had the hard drive replaced, and I am still having the same issues. I have discovered that if I completely skip the Saffire, using the built in microphone and speakers, it will record in time. If I use the saffire either input, output, or both I get the recording late on playback. I have reset all settings back to factory on both the Saffire and in Logic. I have restarted the Saffire and the Mac. Any ideas?

I upgraded to 10.0.7 and have recorded a new project with varying results. A completely bank project will keep time, but if I import tracks from previous projects the problem occurs. I have been on the phone with apple care and that have found SMART hard drive failing. I suspect this may be the underlying problem. On my way for replacement.

I have encountered a problem here with recordings out of sync. I was trying to record a bass guitar(direct). The sound was in time during record(monitoring through Logic via interface), but upon playback, timing was late. Timing is consistently late and not varying. I am not recording with any effects or bus sends. I have updated from Mix Control 3.3 to 3.4 with no change. This problem started after I started using Saffire Mix Control. I have made no other changes.
