  1. I really wish Apple had better tested this macOS update. I have a lot of $$$ invested in virtual instruments that use the iLok, especially the VIs from VSL which uses the iLok for most of their VIs and plug-ins. The work-around using Logic Pro in Rosetta Mode seems to help a great deal, thankfully. But I haven't started a new project yet in hopes that Apple will come up with a fix to its macOS 14.4. Besides Logic Pro, I also use MOTU's Digital Performer for scoring video and original composition projects. Digital Performer crashes my "new" Mac Studio when opening Kontakt 7. Another victim of the macOS 14.4, sadly. Thankfully, Digital Performer with my assorted VIs and plug-ins all work as intended in Rosetta Mode. It's just slooooow to start up.
  2. Normally, I rarely make rash changes to operating systems. Unfortunately, my new M2 Mac Studio already came pre-loaded with the Sonoma macOS. Even more unfortunate is that I updated to Sonoma 14.4. It was an impulsive decision. I am one of many un-lucky individuals who was left with a f**ked-up system. Logic Pro now has significant issues with VSL's Vienna Instruments and Vienna Imperial (and other VSL "Pro" plug-ins) in addition to Opus by EastWest. I gotta take ownership to this fiasco. My bad. Hopefully a fix will be made sooner than later. At least I am not in the middle of a recording/sequencing project. (Note: The Sonoma 14.4 also effected other DAWs including MOTU's Digital Performer.)
  3. I was concerned about this. However, at this point, I'm not using CC36 for any of my instruments. Yet. CC24, on the other hand, is used often for my VSL's VIs. Thank you. 🙂
  4. des 99 - First, thank you for your reply. I'm happy to say that I believe that I found the solution and all is well. I hope. For anyone who might experience a similar issue, this is what I ended up doing: 1) I went into "Controller Assignments" of Logic Pro 2) Fiddled with the the CC#24 fader on my happy AKAI MPK88 controlling Keyboard so that Logic Pro can "see" it 3) Saw that it was assigned to K3 (Smart Control #3) 4) Under MIDI In-put Message, I took a WILD GUESS and changed the parameter to 24. so that it looks like this under "value change": B0 24 Lo7. I verified within the Vienna Instrument Pro plug-in that CC#24 was indeed being properly controlled within Logic Pro. So, it seems that everything is working as intended. Hopefully. For now. Now onto music-sequence-making for a cooking video that my wife and I are working on. 🙂 Cheers! 🙂 Ted
  5. Hello - I recently purchased an M2 MAX Mac Studio (with 96 GBs RAM) and I'm currently in the process of getting it set-up for my humble audio-sequencing projects. Of course, this involved downloading (again) the Logic Pro program. (I'm doing a fresh install of all of my programs.) I use a lot of VSL's virtual instruments (VIs) for my projects. I have configured within VSL's Vienna Instruments Pro program to use CC#24 to serve as a master filter (and volume) for its VIs. For good or for bad, it has become a long-established part of my workflow (and it meets my modest needs) when sequencing the orchestral instruments housed within the Vienna Instruments Pro program. For some reason it seems that Logic Pro is not seeing the CC#24 data. It's as if Logic Pro is filtering out the CC#24 data (and other nearby CC data). I hold a vague recollection that, in the past, I had to configure Logic Pro to see the CC#24 data. Unfortunately, I can't find where (or IF) I can "unfilter" Logic Pro in order to see CC#24 data. I'm using the latest version of Logic Pro (10.8.1). It's what was downloaded from the Apple web-site. For good or for bad, my new M2 MAX Mac Studio came with the Sonoma macOS which is now updated to its latest version, 14.3. Is it possible to configure the latest version of Logic Pro to properly work with CC#24 data? If so, can someone please direct me to where I can configure Logic Pro to see and properly use this (and other) CCs?? Thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses. Kind Regards, Ted PS. . . Been using Logic Pro, on and off, for many years. I used to own the Platinum version of Logic Pro when it was owned by eMagic. I believe that I still have the floppy disks to this old version. They're hidden deep within my closet somewhere. LOL!
  6. I had to engage, "Bypass All Control Services", which corrected the problem. I forgot all about that option. Thank you both!!
  7. Hello - I recently purchased a new iMac Pro. With this purchase, I was able to finally upgrade Apple's software programs to their latest versions, including Logic Pro X 10.51. I've been away from Logic Pro X for a while. Since recently returning to it, I've noticed an issue with how it seems to configure Control Changes (CCs). I'm a fairly heavy user of VSL's VIs. As you might now, VSL relies heavily on CCs to help the user create a convincingly realistic sound to the instruments. For example, I use CC 24 often to make subtle changes to an instrument's timbre. Since returning to LPX, I noticed that the "change" information wasn't being transmitted from my happy MIDI keyboard controller (the AKI MPK88) when using the "fader" corresponding to CC24. At first I thought it was the MIDI Keyboard controller itself. After some investigation, I've concluded that the LPX program was not configured transmit MIDI information that correspond to the higher-numbers CCs. How can I configure LPX to do this? I'm stumped. I want to start creating new orchestral and band templets which will include VIs from VSL. I want to be able to depend (I should be able to depend) that I can make MIDI control changes as needed. Thank you for your any information you can share regarding this. Respectfully, Ted
  8. A thought or two for consideration. . . I have an aging MacPro 2009/2010 that continues to meet my audio and video needs. I also have a number of VI libraries, including orchestral ones. Those libraries take up a whole lot of space. Because of this, I have three 1-TB SSDs and one 500-GB SSD (all internal) to house the libraries. I can not imagine owning these libraries without the extra drives. Regarding the 10GB ethernet. . . I also own VSL's VEPro 6 in addition to an aging MacMini. That ethernet connection with VEPro 6 works great as the two computers spread processing power for some of my larger orchestral sequencing projects. With all of this said, the new MacMini Pro computers look impressive! I don't know how these new computers would work with heavy-duty 4K and HD video editing, but it seems that they'd work well for audio work! Looking forwards to hearing (reading) your experience with the new purchase. Cheers! Ted
  9. Another choice . . . VSL has choices which help go a long way in creating the "Depth of Sound": 1) Vienna MIR Pro 24 (which allows up to 24 instruments to be placed in its acoustical stage-theater field), and 2) Vienna MIR Pro (which allows an unlimited number of instruments to be placed). Both are highly configurable. More importantly, it's also visual where one can see the placement of instruments on a virtual stage, and where one can see the placements of the virtual microphones (from the stage perspective and from the audience perspective). The software program(s) ain't cheap. But it certainly does a nice job in creating a realistic sound as if a band and/or orchestra is being recorded live on a stage or theater setting. https://www.vsl.co.at/en/Vienna_Software_Package/Vienna_MIR_PRO I also attempt to use "front", "middle" and "back" reverb plug-ins (of varying lengths), controlled by the Send signals from each instrument to each of the dedicated reverb channels. I'm NOT an expert in doing this. It certainly involves a lot of time, experimentation and "ears". Keeping in mind that "a little bit goes a long way", this set-up also gives pleasing results in creating that "Depth of Sound".
  10. Hi - I was happy to see Kirk Hunter's Diamond Orchestral for sale. . . for $75.00!! (Wow!) I'm a Kirk Hunter fan, and own a few of his libraries (including the Diamond Orchestra, Concert Strings 2 and Concert Brass 2 libraries). In the past, I've emailed him, asking questions and requesting clarification. He responded very quickly. He seems to care for his customers. For those who took advantage of this rather generous sale, enjoy! It might be an older orchestral library, but you got a lot of "bang for the buck"!
  11. Well. . . I recently reverted back to El Capitan. (Thank goodness that I had the "smarts" to back up the OS X drive before I upgraded to Sierra.) I was having "wonky" issues under Sierra including having the computer freeze at various times. Things are back to normal. . . stable. . . for me under El Capitan. Looks like I'll be staying with this OS and earlier Logic Pro X & Final Cut Pro X programs until I purchase a new(er) computer that is upgradeable to either Sierra or High Sierra. I do not know the issues to why my computer was somewhat unstable using Sierra. It's a refurbished computer that's been upgraded from 2009 to 2010, that's been "flashed" with newer CPUs. I don't know. . . I will try to find "The How" to upgrade to Sierra for the earlier Mac Pro. It's actually found on Apple's support somewhere. Unfortunately, I don't remember where to find that link. Edited to Add: Found it!! Here's a link to one "How To" web-page: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/how-to-update-to-sierra-not-high-sierra.2073277/ Check out post #21. It's an Apple web-site link that currently enables one to download OS X Sierra (not High Sierra). Don't know how long this link will last. Hope you find this helpful!
  12. I have both Apple's Final Cut Pro X and Adobe's Premiere Pro CC. Both have templets that create files which are YouTube friendly. I believe those files are MP4 files (if I remember correctly). Exporting a video-file to YouTube is not difficult. The challenge is creating an informative, well-researched, well-crafted, well-produced and engaging video so that other members want to come back and see more of your videos. For good or for bad, the "competition" is fierce! LOL! There are many, many, many video-loggers on YouTube. Heck, there are MANY YouTube videos on how to create YouTube videos!!! LOL!
  13. I have a 2009 Mac Pro that's been refurbished to a 2010 Mac Pro (5,1). I recently upgraded the OS X to Sierra. However, I believe that I will be staying with Sierra from this point on. This is because of issues that exist between High Sierra and some important software programs that I use. But, so far, Logic Pro X 10.4 is running just fine with my happy refurbished Mac Pro and the latest version of Sierra. If you are interested in upgrading to "just" Sierra, there exists a way of doing this (and not upgrading to High Sierra). If interested, simply respond and I'll send you the link to the Apple web-site that enables its customers to do this.
  14. Hi Jay - I do own the Hollywood Orchestra Diamond VIs. (All except the Solo Violin.) My happy refurbished Mac Pro has all internal and external SSDs, so no problem there. I even have a second computer with internal and external SSDs. (See my signature line below for specific specs.) I do use a Master/Slave configuration using VEPro 6 for other orchestral templets. I also have a couple of larger templets that are set-up on one computer. However, I wish to create one larger orchestral set-up using ONLY East/West VIs, as mentioned in my original post. I not all that savoy using VEPro 6 with Logic Pro X. (I use VEPro 6 for another DAW, which is a wonderfully stable set-up!) I would not mind skipping VEPro 6 on this new configuration, though. For a couple of other orchestral templets, I find that Logic Pro X handles the 50+ single instrumental instances just fine. Some of those instruments are East/West VIs. In fact, I use a number of East/West VIs in most of my templets. But I do not have one templet that utilizes 100% East/West instruments. Thank you for the thoughtful information, Jay. Ted
  15. Hello - I am in the process of beginning to create an orchestral templet exclusively using PLAY. Throughout the years, I've owned East/West's Orchestral VIs including the Diamond versions, and I am a subscriber to their ComposerCloud for the rest of their VIs. However, I never created an orchestral templet using JUST their VIs. Well, I have some spare time on my hands today and decided to do just that. I know that for VIs housed by Kontakt and other samplers, I find that single instances of each instrument works well with Logic Pro X for CPU usage. Is this true for PLAY as well? Or, is it best to have PLAY hold several instruments at a time for each instance? Thank you in advance for any thoughtful input. Ted
