  1. I didn't see a WB forum, so here goes... Is there a way to burn a CD without first bouncing to a separate file? I can do that with Toast (and before that with Jam), but I can't seem to find the preference or option that lets me do that in WB. I have v1.6.
  2. I thought the main advantage of 64-bit was access to more than 4GB RAM. If that's the main thing, I'm not sure any of the plugins would benefit - none use that much RAM, do they?
  3. The latest one (Nehalem) will no doubt have a longer supported life. Maybe not by much, but as the newer operating systems come out and applications are updated to take advantage of newer features, it will gradually out-perform the older-generation of processors. Just like at first, the G4 with Altivec co-processors didn't show any real performance advantage, but over time it showed why it was more advanced than the earlier processors. I have confidence that the hyper-threading features of the Nehalem will show their advantage over the next year or so. I just received my 8-core Nehalem yesterday, so I get to do the upgrade from my old dual G5 this weekend...I'm not looking forward to re-installing 5 Logic Studio DVDs plus Protools, plus Waves Platinum, plus other plugins, plus Finale, plus....plus...plus. But it WILL be fun once I'm done! 8)
  4. Yep. Multiple problems reported with the hyperthreading feature. Multiple inserts per track bog it down; DAWs have trouble recognizing all the virtual cores, etc. It's pretty bleeding edge and will probably be a rough ride for a few months until things get sorted out. It's not like it's just a Ghz speed bump with faster RAM - it's a whole new chip design.
  5. Didn't see when it would be available or what it will cost. I'd certainly demo it if were available. Stability would be a prime driver. No scoring, but it has mastering. Competition is usually a good thing!
  6. I use it with my 002R all the time. No real issues related to compatibility with the hardware. I'm on a dual G5 w/OS 10.4.11. I don't know how it will fare with 10.5 and Intel, but it should work.
  7. One more thing: You mentioned "internal mic". Are you running a MacBook Pro? The dynamic mic you mentioned SHOULD work with a mic preamp, but frankly, I don't know if the input level for the built-in hardware will work with that setup. I thought it was line-level only, and if that's the case, you simply won't get enough volume out of the mic to record. You will probably need an external mic preamp to boost the signal enough. Also, if you're using the built in audio hardware only (no external audio interface), then you have to have your audio preferences set to external mic in the Audio/Midi setup. It will only appear as input one, I believe. Really though, using the internal sound capabilities will get you only mediocre sound quality at best. Go out and buy at least a $99 USB interface of some type. There are also many interfaces that are quite decent and only around $200 and Firewire interfaces start at about $300. If you want to eliminate a few variables with your current setup, try using your external mic with GarageBand and see if it works at all. Your best bet is to do a little research here: http://www.sweetwater.com/shop/computer-audio/audio_interfaces/
  8. A "regular external mic" is not nearly descriptive enough. There are way too many types of mics. What brand, model, type of connection, etc...those are the pieces of info needed to help figure it out. Also, where exactly are you plugging it in (and what kind of Mac do you have). You also mention "sound card". Macs don't have "sound cards" like PCs, so did you add one? If so, what kind?
  9. Seems to run find on mine w/10.4.9. I can't recall a recent crash using my 002R with it.
  10. You'll simply need the Digidesign Core Audio Manager. It normally gets installed when you install Protools LE. The Digi CAM is what enables Logic to "talk to" the 002R.
  11. I haven't fully explored these myself, but there are some Kontakt2 scripts that come with the program that provide strummed chords with acoustic guitar. I think it's called the Akkord Guitar. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of documentation on it, but it looks like it's got some amazing potential if you want to get into it.
  12. Obama is a very good speaker. What exactly has he accomplished in his career that would lead one to believe he can actually do any of the things he talks about?
  13. Don't hate me, but I actually LIKE the TVs at the gas stations...makes waiting the 5 minutes to fill up go a bit quicker. It's mostly E! shorts and weather anyways. Now I REALLY get tired of spam. It's like bulk mailings addressed to "...or current resident". Also related to this thread title: I have a pet peeve which is when I BUY a DVD and that DVD has 10 previews or ads I have to skip through before getting to the main title. I could almost understand that on a rental DVD, but not a shrink-wrapped new one for $20.
  14. Uh oh...I don't think you want to go there. Isn't Samplitude at version 10? But yeah, Logic can burn a song to CD from inside the app for basic one-off stuff. Then use Waveburner when you want to get more serious and do the whole CD.
