  1. That's the theoretical maximum. The reality I've seen is above 2 gigs and less than 3. So pretty pathetic for serious use. When I came across this claim a while ago, I thought is was a one-off misinformed theory that couldn't be right... because, just why?!?! That is pretty pathetic indeed. From your experience, would I be pushing it running only 12 GB ram in 64 Bit? I can upgrade to 32 mb. BTW, I checked out your link... very impressive spread y'all have there... and your credentials. impressive. Thanks again.
  2. thanks triplets, all very do'able. I initially set up a "Logic Sessions" drive to work from, keeping sessions off the OS drive. As an experiment, I moved the last couple sessions I've worked on to the OS to see if it helped - as if the alt. drive might be the problem. Same thing noticed, so I'll definitely get back to working on the alt. drive. As for the Process Buffer, I'll bump to those settings. The one monitor thing is an option but I'll experiment with only 1 first to see if that helps. I'd be willing to invest in a better video card if it helped push the dual monitor set-up. I remember reading somewhere that LP9 will only use a max of 4GB ram in 32 bit mode, back when I was looking into options to convert to LP10. Since setting up a new drive strictly for Logic(9), I forgot about that. That may be the biggest factor of all. We'll see how that goes, but I'll apply all of the changes (save for the single monitor, just yet). I'm on the work drive atm so can't check exact CPU readings, but I don't remember seeing that as an issue. Oddly, I was previously running Logic on the same system / same specs but on my main HD (before it's dedicated drive), and never had any issues. I tried to match settings, but I did convert to 32 bit mode to assist with collab'ing with a friend in 32 bit. That's the main thing that's changed... let's see if that resolves things too. Thanks again for the pointers!
  3. Hi'a, I'm new here but think I've found the place! I'm experiencing newfound woes with my Logic system to the point of pretty much unusable. To preface, I'm using Logic 9 by choice but also by some limitations with compatibility. I look forward to moving to X (10), but it's unfortunately not an option for the time being. I'm using a Mac Pro tower with it's own boot OS drive dedicated to strictly run Logic. I've limited this drive to Logic Pro and DAW / Plug-In based installs. First issue I'm experiencing is sluggish, latency based issues even when first launching Logic. The "playhead (scrollbar)" is not sync'd with the WAV's or timeline-to-audio by a large margin. This does include when I play / record in low latency mode also. Secondly, I'm having more of a stability issue when working in Logic for extended periods of time... and by that, I mean over 30 minutes. After about 30 minutes, all of the controls and features start to lag in response and take a second or 2 to respond. This also includes any adjustments, such as levels, plug-in adjustments, etc. They begin to take 2-3 seconds for the changes to be audible. This makes it very tedious to work with without real-time observation. After 45 mins. - hour, Logic begins to become near unresponsive. I'm fairly new to the specs and settings around Logic but desperate to get it running smoothly. Any input that may improve performance would be greatly appreciated. I'll list a run-down of the system and specs as best I can: Mac Pro tower (Mid 2010) / 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Memory: 12 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB Startup Disk: 1TB Western Digital / Black Label / Performance Drive (7200 RPM) Operating System: Yosemite (10.10.5) Displays: Dual 30 in. Apple Cinema HD Displays (connected via USB powered Mini DV adapters) Interface / DA/AD Converter: Apogee Ensemble (Firewire Version) / Maestro 2 Logic Pro 9 (9.1.8) 32 bit mode Preferences (listed items that may be relevant) General: Cache > "When Logic Starts" / "When moving Playhead" - CHECKED Audio: Devices > Core Audio (enabled) / System Memory: 97.0 MB / I/O Buffer Size: 128 Sample (resulting round-trip latency: 11.7 ms) Recoding Delay: 0 [CHECKED] Universal Track Mode [CHECKED] 24-Bit Recoding [CHECKED] Sofware Monitoring Processing Threads - AUTOMATIC Processing Buffer - SMALL If I overlooked any important specs that you might suspect are effecting performance, please ask, I'll look into it. I'm personally suspect about the RAM where I'm running 12 MB. The Mac can handle 32 MB which I'll be upping to asap. I've been told that it shouldn't be the RAM and a friend even mentioned that it could in fact even be the video card, especially running the two 30" displays. I'm running basic Logic sessions: 5-8 mono instrument (wav) tracks; about 7-10 midi instrument tracks using Logic samples / sound files and 3rd party synth sounds and about 5 AUX / bus tracks. Each channel has about 2-3 plugins assigned. Plugins average a variety of Logic stock, Universal Audio and IK Multimedia's. Since the performance decline builds up over the period of a 30 min. + editing session, it seems to be cache / buffer related... but I don't know how and where. I'm working on session saved directly to the OS drive, one at a time. I later move the sessions to an alternate SATA drive. Not sure if it's better to work on ext. drive or local OS drive, but I've experimented both ways and same issues arise. Thanks in advance for any advice!!
