  1. Hey Eric, That is one avenue I haven't tried, thanks for the tip. Still not used to having Smart Controls yet. Go figure, one of the major new updates in X and I keep using the old methods! Will get back with the results. Cheers Andy H
  2. Hi there. I'll try, to the best of my abilities, explain what it is I'm trying to achieve and hopefully someone can help me out with a solution. I would like to use a Moog EP3 expression pedal to MIDI control Amplitube 3 (specifically, to control a Wah Wah pedal). With Amplitube in standalone mode, i've got this working by sending MIDI via my Moog Sub 37. (EP3 connects to Filter CV input) I want to achieve this in Logic X too, but so far I'm stuck. My guitar is connected via Apogee Duet to Input 1 of an Audio track, but if Amplitube is inserted here, it doesn't receive MIDI when I try to assign a parameter. Also tried routing the signal to Bus 1 and inserting Amplitube here but this also doesn't work. So my questions are: 1. Is it possible to use MIDI controllers to effect plug-ins on an Audio/Aux/Bus track? 2. How do I get the EP3 (via Sub37) to control Amplitube 3 another way than inserting it on a Software Instrument track? I'm guessing its an Environment thing but i really don't know my way around that labyrinth too well yet! Thanks Andy H
  3. I can't really comment about the stability, as I've not used it much, or in any bigger projects. What I can say is that I think sound and flexibility are awesome! I have the Lexicon PCM bundle (which I thought was all I'd ever need), Softube Tsar and Valhalla stuff...all brilliant in there own way, but even with all this excellence on offer I still felt there was a place for the Eventide (maybe I'm just a junkie though...) I find the Eventide to be the most flexible of all these and sound quality is equally good across the board. What is also very nice about the Eventide are the presets...I know, I know we should be creating our own patches, but just to get some excitement going, there is a lot on offer. I wouldn't have bought it at the full price, but at the intro price it's (for me) the best value for money reverb out there. Plus, unlike other processors, I don't think you can ever have enough reverb choices. Hope this helps with your decision.
  4. Great feedback guys, I've taken another small step forward on the arduous journey that is music theory. Will be diving into Melodyne soon, this should be of great help too. Concerning the b's and #'s, the list of scales that I use is always written out with one or the other so this way helps me remember easier.
  5. Hhmmm...ambitious indeed! Its a complex little riff! (for me at least) Firstly can you confirm that starting at 3.4.1.1 the A note played together with the F is correct? I took the liberty of moving it to G# or Ab (the b's and #'s thing is still murky water territory for me) and it sounded more natural. If so, the notes are either: C#, D#, E, F, F#, G#, A#, B OR Db, Eb, E, F, Gb, Ab, Bb, B So I'm trying to figure out the key now and have got as far as narrowing it down to Db Major or Bb Minor on the basis that they contain 5 b's or #'s. Trouble is they both contain C and have no E. So, onto Modes then....and this is where I have to succumb to my lack of knowledge and ask for help again Out of interest did you work this progression out just by listening to the original song eriksimon? Madskillz!
  6. Thanks very much for the MIDI file eriksimon, will check it when I get home! Cheers to peachboy for the site. Hey juda$, shame to rediscover this tune again just after summer! Can always pull it out again next year!
  7. No, not the first, I've been "noodling" about for a few years but i've recently decided to go deeper into the understanding of 7th chords and thought this tune sounded like it contained some 7th progressions(?)
  8. I'm trying to teach myself to play the piano and I figure learning to play some of my favourite tunes a good starting point. I'm currently working on "i am the black gold of the sun" (just the looping piano part) by rotary connection/nu yorican soul. As a starting point I thought I'd try and get the song sheet but this is proving more difficult than i'd hoped. Anyone have a suggestion for a good site? Or if anyone knows the chords and would like to share, it would be much appreciated.
  9. Hi there. Fab Filters Timeless is extremely flexible, as are most of their plug-ins. Highly modulation-able!
  10. No, its the latest version.
  11. Cheers Rev. Will have to do that for now. Not really a huge problem but anything that interrupts the flow is a pest.
  12. When moving a plug-in (to create space in the chain) on the Insert slot of the channel strip, the parameters I've adjusted in FM8's easy mode (harmonics, brightness, envelope etc) all reset to 0. Never had any issues like this before, anyone else noticed this? The obvious work around is not to move the plugs-ins on the Insert but I find myself needing to do this quite often.
  13. Thanks for your replies guys, I think I'll use the phone as a back up at least. Even though I'm not experienced, I am keen to learn, so I'd like to take this opportunity to give it a bit of the old trial and error approach and see what happens. I not too bad in the production and mixing department and its possible i might be able to get involved in recording and mixing some of the bands future music in the studio, so it would be nice to try and show some kind of skills at the gigs. So, best foot forward and sore like an eagle...or crash and burn! Nothing to lose really. Cheers
  14. I personally don't have any mics so i'll be relying on whatever the band/organisers have. I do have an apogee duet but no laptop. I could possibly take my iMac. Do you have any advice on the positioning off the mics? Would it be the same principle as finding the sweetspot with a monitoring set-up? Thanks for your other advice, I think that will be enough for a first attempt. The gigs should be running monthly so I can try things out a see what works best.
  15. I've been asked by a friend for some help to record an upcoming bar gig. I thought, no problem, plug a recording device into the mixer and watch the levels. Unfortunately they are only using a small mixer for the vocals, and the guitars are outputting through amps, and as for the drums I'm not sure. My knowledge on live recording is virtually zero, so could anyone offer some advise on how to go about doing this? The results don't have to be perfect, just something to put online as a reminder of the evening. My thoughts were to set up 1 (would this result in a mono recording?), maybe 2 mic's and record, via a small mixer, through those. And the budget...well of course there isn't one, so its got to be economical
