  1. My GDrive Mini (FW 800 - 750gig) seems to be fine so far.
  2. I just don't understand why they didn't opt for FW, the specs look great. looks, how's your '08 MBP holding up in 9? Max track count?
  3. Just ran the Logic 9 benchmark text from over @ gearsluts - freezing really helped (all MIDI) froze 30 and had another 10 playing wide open (no freeze). Curious to see how it will handle audio tracks, I expect to peak around 25-30 w/plugs. Will report back.
  4. I was considering the Apogee Duet, but I'd prefer a FW I/O.
  5. did I do ok on the ExHD choice? - my buddy who does location film / sound swears by it - also should I use the DC power cable? thanks all -
  6. Thanks to all w/your upgrade recommendations - currently: 10.7.2 8GB RAM Logic 9 FW800 / 750GB GDrive Mini My question is, do I need to reformat the drive for audio production? Also, now that my system is pure as the driven snow with a complete wipe, what background tasks or services should I disable? (bluetooth / WIFI etc.) while recording? Oh and should I record to the 750GB GDrive Mini and store samples there - or work from my freshly cleansed 320gb 5400rpm HD? Happy holidays to all -
  7. gah - lol please delete this topic - found my answer: http://www.logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=78537
  8. Due to lack of interest and low balling I'm not selling the MBP in my sig, might as well hang on to it. It's down to Mac Mini Server - 2.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 8GB memory Dual 500GB 7200-rpm hard drives1 Intel HD Graphics 3000 or iMac 2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 2560 x 1440 resolution 8GB (two 4GB) memory 1TB hard drive1 AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 512MB The Apple Store hipsters are trying to tell me the MMS doesn't have the bus speed to handle the demands of a DAW and swear up and down I need the iMac. Thanks for any input - making the purchase tonight.
  9. Sounds good - ordering my memory upgrade this Friday - any thoughts on bumping up the internal HD to 7200rpm?
  10. Matt, you are right - my system / setup works fine - I rarely have issues even without incorporating an external HD. I can easily record multiple live instruments, utilize several Logic VI's / BFD 1.5 and apply a healthy amount of signal processing on the channel strips. It's been a great way to take a rough sketch to the next level. Now, I do get the standard system overloads, but they rarely effect my work flow when I freeze tracks and increase my buffer size while working @ 24bit / 44.1k My concern comes from the fact my machine is officially two years old, and the quality of converters in my consumer level Line 6 UX2. My goal is to have a modest setup that can: - Run Logic 9 and BFD 2.0 (3rd party software East-West PSP, NI) with ease. - Be mobile - rack up and head to locations for tracking - Record one instrument @ a time or a full band w/monitor mixes - Record @ a high enough sample rate for transfer to a professional studio for finalize mixes or do additional tracking. Triplets, if a simple memory up grade will allow my machine (in sig) to handle the load above, I'm all in - I just assumed that an SSD drive + memory would be a smart call. Thanks to you both for jumping in -
