  1. I have a second computer running PT9 synced to my Logic rig. I am running video on the PT rig. Using MTC and MMC I can start, stop, and scrub video on PT rig from logic. But the video won't scrub when I move a region. I have the option "transmit locate commands when dragging regions or events" checked. But it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas?
  2. I seem to remember the same thing happened with Logic Pro 8 and Leopard? One was released about a month before the other I think. No big problems then. But who knows about 3rd party plug-ins.
  3. Of course most of this could be solved if Logic would include an "identify beat" command like ProTools. Simply tell Bar 1 to play at 01:10:53:23 for example.
  4. Absolutely. The mixer tab will stay on the bottom and you will always have the option of opening it in the consolidated window. But you can still open any of the tabs as its own window via the window menu or keyboard shortcut. (Mixer, Piano Roll, Sample Editor, Score, Hyper Editor)
  5. I want to take 8 bars of a cue that's in one project and import it into another project that has different instruments tracks, etc. What is the easiest way to do this?
  6. About to get some new hard drives. What are the current favorite hard drives for Logic Pro? Both for audio and streaming samples? Going to be internal SATA in a Mac Pro 8-Core. Thanks!
  7. I can't deny that Logic's summing is week. But I can deny that it is weak. sorry... Seriously though, there is nothing wrong with Logic's summing. Any competent engineer should be able to get Logic to sound just as energetic, clear and deep as any other DAW. It's just not a problem...however, if you think you get better mixes through the Allen and Heath, then you can do it. That's how you get the sound you desire. But you can't make blanket statements about Logic's summing. You may have to work harder (or differently) at first to get the desired result. But for me, it's just not something I ever have to worry about.
  8. Starting work on a film project. In addition to full quality DVD. What format should I ask the editor to delivery to me. i.e. What quicktime export settings should the editor use for the workprint?
  9. For those of you interested: The workstation in the photos I posted awhile back is a slightly modified Omnirax Producer's Corner desk. (Just the desk and not the optional racs. Basically I found a 76-key keyboard that fit almost perfectly between the legs and added supports for it. So the keyboard is actually mounted below the desk surface putting it at piano height. (About 28 inches.) That's it! http://www.omnirax.com/index.php/DisplayProduct/0-19
  10. So what you are saying is that you were able to get Logic NOT to sound cold and tinny by doing a little EQ? Congratulations....you are an engineer. I wonder if, with different material you might find that Logic is "punchier and more lively" than Reaper. I don't really buy that Logic is excessively "cold or tinny." But even if you are right, you did a little engineering and made it sound good. If you are mixing a track in Logic, and you are A-B'ing it to a reference track you should be able to make the track sound just as "warm and fuzzy" as the reference. I've never, ever been in a situation where I couldn't get a mix to sound the way I wanted it too in Logic. Never, ever been in a situation where a mix just sounded "Cold or tinny" without any possibility of fixing it. You see what I'm getting at? If you are working in a DAW, and you know that DAW in and out, you should be able to build your mix so it sounds like you want it. It's not like you will mix for hours on end, make your final mix, put it on a CD and then play it back on a stereo and go...Damn! It's way too harsh. I should have mixed in ProTools!!! Did you ever do your double blind test with the audiofiles and normal folks??
  11. I found an old thread on this subject that I had even responded to over a year ago. Has anyone found a solution to this? It is really annoying. It's strange too, because I can go through several weeks with out this happening and then for some reason it will happen with certain projects over and over again. Yesterday I had to create new, copy and delete original track several times. This bug is very annoying.
  12. I've searched the forums for a solution to this. I've had this problem in every version of Logic Studio Pro. Every once in a while, sometimes more than others, a software instrument track will just stop playing back. If I hit record, I can play the soft synth, but the recorded track won't playback. The work around is to create new track with same channelstripe/instrument and then move the region to that track and delete the orginal track. It's a pain. is there some reason this is happening and does anyone else have this problem?
  13. In the last year or so I have been on a mission to simplify my set up. I am now completely running inside the box and with my new 8-core I no longer need a second PC. So I only have one keyboard, mouse, etc. If you have to have 3 keyboards, etc. I would get a Keyboard, mouse, monitor switcher. I write a lot of orchestrated music with the Quantum Leap libraries and have no problem composing with one computer and a bunch of hard drives. The Freeze function is my friend! But with my new 8-core I rarely even have to use freeze. Here is a picture of my set up. I just recently got the 30" monitor which I prefer over 2 separate monitors and gives me plenty of room for everything. You can hear some of my music on my website (www.shadowboxmusic.com). The music I created for "Six Degrees Could Change the World" was composed with one Dual G5. Admittedly, my computer was huffing and puffing. But it didn't really slow me down at all. This was the project that led to my getting an 8-core Mac Pro. The ease of having one computer and one file to open and load everything has sped up my workflow tremendously. And having a clean, ergonomic layout also helps the creative process. That's what me thinks anyway...
  14. Quite a few G5 Quad users here, quite happy with the performance. Not showing anywhere near the usage you're showing when running projects similar to yours. You might try running some hardware tests, particularly memory. Sometimes a bad core audio driver can be a problem too. This is a real bug that has been confirmed to me by Apple. I was at the ASCAP expo in LA last month. Showed a session to Apple techs at the show, and then they had the same problem on their machine. See this post and test it yourself. http://logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=128122#128122 This problem may have been fixed with Mac OS 10.5.3. The Apple techs theorized to me after several e-mails back and forth that it was most likely a system level problem. It is true that on some machines, with certain sessions and buffer settings it may not cause errors, or clicks, or glitches. But I have yet to see a machine running 10.4.11 through 10.5.2 and Logic Pro 8.01 (or 8.02) that doesn't exhibit this bug in certain circumstances. The more software instruments you are running, (especially Native Instruments or other CPU intensive instruments like EXS-Steinway Hall Piano) the worse the problem is. I have just started working on a new 8-core machine and it too shows the problem, but it rarely is bad enough to cause any errors, pops, or clicks. Regardless, it shouldn't be happening at all. Please go to the linked post, download the MIDI file and create a new session and run the test procedure I outlined. The problem is real and will hopefully be fixed soon if it hasn't already been fixed with 10.5.3.
