Troubleshooting Logic 8

Logic Pro questions and troubleshooting

Postby Ornate_Coal_Man » Sat Sep 15, 2007 9:48 am

OK, now that I've upgraded, I noticed that the my "autoload" song is gone. No biggie, I suppose. But then I go to the "Template" feature and select, for example, 10 Auido Units (instruments/soft synths).

So far so good. So I select one of the tracks, select a soft synth (e.g. EX 24), record a passage, play what I've recorded, so far so good.

Then, I select another track, want to record another (i.e., different) Audio Unit (e.g., Native Instruments B4) to accompany what I've already recorded.

PROBLEM: All of hte tracks become B4--the EX 24 track I originally recorded is now a B4 track!

How can I make it so that each track represents separate, independent audio units, like I had in Logic 7.2????

Thanks in advance.

Never mind, I guess I figured it out. This time, the audio unit selection will apparewntly override the default setting. Sorry.

Is anyone having a problem assigning key commands using the learn by key position option? I imported my keycommands from LP7, and everything that I had assigned this way shows up as the actual key instead of the ASCII number. Also, anything I try to reassign by key position shows up as the actual key as well.

Any thougts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi All,
Sorry this is a bit long,
So I still can't get my mackie universal control to show up in the preferences control surface setup. I think I've totally read all related threads. I've rebooted the MCU in logic control mode. I've reloaded logic, deleted the .plist and .cs in library preferences (nada). I can't manually "add" in the control surface setup, scan also does nothing. There is no list to choose from. I've checked this jpg on another thread (below) and the only difference in my setup is that the small plug icons next to midi device plugins list are paper file icons, this seems strange ( I think this could be it but don't know how to go about fixing it) ...I've also read that people have said that a unitor 8 install box popped up during L8 install. This did not show up for me on my original install or my second try install,.. I repaired disk permissions after each install as well. Anybody have something like this happen to them and fix it.

Cheers

Anyone else encountering random crashes while using Space Designer. I've had a couple crashes so far, both while Space Designer was just opened. Once I was trying the Marque snap to transient feater (tried again several times with no Space Designer in the project and had no crash) and the other time was just loading a Space Designer preset - prior to opening Space Designer, everything was running smooth. The common denominator seems to be Space Designer being open - otherwise it seems to run smoothly with any number of the plugs and VIs I've tried so far, but once I've inserted Space Designer somewhere in a session, a crash comes up pretty quickly - any suggestions?

Changing presets in Space Designer is triggering and instant crash for me - the plug-in face goes blank and then Logic crashes.

I trashed prefs and tried again - weird thing is that my self made presets from 7 doesn't crash logic, and the default preset doesn't crash it, but if I attempt to load any of the Logic presets, instant crash.

So my problem (listed above) with my MCU control surface got solved by apple logic pro support
Removal of my apogee ensemble before L8 start up with my unitor 8 and mackie control freshly plugged in and turned on; helped logic to notice the MCU and then I plugged the ensemble in and BAM! Everything works great! By the way- I love the new logic!
cheers to all

Even after you shut down and restart your system, its still working properly?

IF yes, give me a step by step again, I may be missing somthing in your earlier instructions

Thanks in advance.

exs24 samples lost

Postby Roger Paolo » Tue Sep 18, 2007 2:38 am

It seems that some samples got lost in the upgrade from LP7 to 8; my EXS pop kit misses some samples. That is strange though as my EXS 24 samples are on a separate drive.

Do I have to point to the location of the samples?
Is it necessary to have all EXS24 samples on 1 location?

Hmm... Wish I had all the other problems in this thread instead. LP8 won't open at all. It just instantly shuts down with no error message. Can't even get to the splash screen. Apple Qadministrator, Apple Qmaster, MainStage, Soundtrack Pro, WaveBurner, and the Apple Loops Utility won't open either.

Repaired permissions, shut down and restarted, reinstalled, nada. No preferences to dump, as the app hasn't opened once to create them. Installation went fine (Logic Studio Update, asked for XSKey, saw it, continued...).

MacBook Pro 2.33 Core 2 Duo, 2GB of RAM, plenty of HD space left, running 10.4.10, Administrator only, everything on one drive... should be simple. What hopefully stupid obvious thing am I missing?

Now that Logic 8 is out, does that mean that we can no longer expect much needed logic 7 updates (regarding the bugginess of Intel Mac setups) ?

I only ask because i have the academic edition, which I cannot upgrade. (Maybe I will go back to school so I can get the academic pricing on logic 8!)

A little info about installation:

As the final DVD Logic asks for the Logic Studio DVD once again. If you by mistake insert the Demo DVD, things will *appear* right but installation may be fudged up.

UPDATE:

Forgot to mention that I also made sure to install the newest ProApp Updater. Still no go.

Manually deleted every single element related to Logic, Soundtrack, WaveBurner, GarageBand, etc. Reinstalled. Still no go.

In a fit of desperation at 1am, I wiped my entire hard drive, reinstalled OSX, updated everything, and reinstalled Logic Studio. That's the only thing that worked. Sigh...

At least it works now.
