Unresponsive Logic 9.1.x+10.7.x & 10.8.x [SOLVED in 10.8.3?]

Postby hypnotik » Wed Nov 09, 2011 9:11 am

Hi,

Experiencing some problems running Logic 9.1.5 with Lion 10.7.2.

Everytime i put the analyzer switch on via Channel EQ, Logic becomes unresponsive....very slow!

Anyone is aware about this ?

I've found another post on apple forums but problem isn't resolved

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3226612?start=0&tstart=0

I've also upgraded to ATI 5770 in place of my Nvidia GT120....graphics seems a bit better mainly for the OS, but it doesn't avoid this problem....sad....

Guys,

Do you use a dual monitor setup?
I've some really weird slackening with my setup!

Especially when i'm using Channel EQ / Linear Phase EQ with the analyzer (fast) with others plugins GUI opened (also on the 2nd monitor). I can't find an explanation to that.

Logic was acting smoothly in SL

BTW Anybody using Kellerwerth (Vengeance sound) plugins with Logic and Lion, these plugins are very graphic intensive ?

Thanks for helping me figured out WTF is happening on my system!

Cheers

i've remarked something maybe interesting

when logic start to act slowly (GUI not responding accurately to mouse commands)
i just switch to application exposé, click on logic window, and now all the mouse commands are sent to logic.

help help help :) how can i troubleshoot this issue ?

thanks!

I have the same issue with Lion and Logic 9.1.6. I posted a few days about Logic becoming unresponsive after being open for an hour or so. I've since narrowed it down (I think) to the Channel EQ instances having the analyzer running. This seems to even happen if the plugin windows aren't open - meaning close the EQ window without deactivating the analyzer. I don't recall this ever happening under Leopard Or Snow Leopard but I was running those on a different, albeit less powerful machine.

Same problem here with Lion. I'm on a Mac Pro 2.6 quad.

I have another Mac Pro tower I use for video and graphic design, and since the issue seems to be GUI related and not processor related (Logic's CPU meter is never peaking), I swapped out the video card from my video machine into my Logic machine. I removed the GeForce 7300 GT and replaced it with my ATI Radeon X1900 XT ...and, NO MORE Slow downs!

The problem seems to be video card related, and at least in my case, specifically the GeForce 7300 GT. Hopefully Apple will ready this and fix this issue. Until they do, try a video card upgrade. I don't think they make the X1900 any more, but there are faster/better ones available now anyway. I'm sure this will continue to pop up as more and more Mac Pro owners take the jump and upgrade to Lion.

Hello psychoid,

IT IS NOT graphic card related......sorry ! I've already bought a new video card (ATI Radeon HD 5770), expecting a lot......no luck Logic still SLOW!

I've noticed this bad performance behavior happend with all plugins which use the graphic engine (Vengeance plugins, some Xfer stuff, Channel EQ especially with analyzer@high...)

same problem here. happens with 32bit and 64bit

any other similarities besides 10.7.3 and Logic 9.1.6?

i have a dual monitor setup (8800GT gfxcard) and this hardware connected to my MacPro: 2 apogee ensemble interfaces (dedicated firewire card), axiom pro 61, unitor 8mkII, NI maschine controller, ilok, elicenser

the axiom hangs from time to time. seems like a midi loop or smth similar. played notes reach logic with a 5sec delay between each note. very annoying. maybe the slow guy is somehow connected to that?

I tried installing the combo-update and an OS install from the recovery partition.
what also doesn't help: reducing the number of threads, disabling the control surfaces, unplugging the axiom, working from a new user.

I'll try booting without the second monitor and without anything connected to USB next.

What a mess ! I think the axiom thing is not related to the slow GUI (?) i've seen something the same issue on apple discussion forum, but can't find it.....anyway i'm doing an install of 10.8 to see if something is different? If not i go back to SL

I'm using Lion here. I have occasionally GUI issues, but generally when I'm running low on RAM.
Logic Pro 9.1.6 running on Mac OSX Lion 10.7.3 on a MacBook Pro 15" (Late 2011) with the 2.2 GHz Intel i7 Quad-Core Processor with 4GB of RAM and the standard 500GB HDD. Oh, and I'm also using a TASCAM US-144 Audio Interface.

But you have a point, i'm running a memtest on my computer right now to see if something is wrong with my memory sticks
