Creating re-amp tracks

Postby Kaipa » Sat Aug 18, 2012 11:06 am

Hi guys,

I'm currently using Logic Pro 9 with a Line 6 UX2 for recording guitar. I'm hoping soon to buy the Line 6 Podfarm 2.5 too. I'm unable to figure out how to record dry tracks alongside wet tracks - my band mate requires me to send him the dry tracks so he can re-amp them in the studio later. Could someone help please?

Cheers

Kaipa

You're best best is to record dry thru your Line 6 and use Guitar Amp Pro or similar as your plugin.
That way you have the clean tracks to send to your band mate.

I agree with triplets. Otherwise you're looking at purchasing another device, such as re-amping device or DI-box with multiple outputs.

Ok thanks, so the Line 6 Pod Farm 2.5 will be ok? How do I set up the tracks?

Make sure you have a clean signal thru your Line6 interface, no simulation, then in Logic put a Pod Farm as your insert and that's it.

I would ditch the Line6 and use your MOTU Ultralite's instrument inputs.

Would I have to put the Podfarm as an insert for every track?

What/where are the MOTU Ultralite's instrument inputs?

The 2 mic pres on the Ultralite are combo jacks, meaning the accept xlr or 1/4 inch plugs. Use those.
Yes, Podfarm goes on every guitar track.

Looks like David was looking at triplets' signature instead of yours when he posted that. You don't have a MOTU Ultralite, right?

No, I was just more confused than before when you mentioned that :D

So when I want to send the dry tracks I just turn off the Podfarm plug in and bounce?

DUH! Sorry 'bout that Kaipa.

So unless you own any other audio interface, use your Line 6 interface.

No worries :D

I know this may not be the right forum to ask, but to record the dry track do I just turn the Podfarm plug in off on each track manually (or maybe it will automatically turn off for every track?)

I've got the Podfarm on order at the moment, I'm a little unsure how it will work in terms of using different sounds for each track, will Logic/podfarm remember the presets per track?

No need to turn off the Podfarm plug-in, it is processing the signal upon monitoring/playback, but never being recorded - Logic always records the dry signal (unless of course you are processing the signal before it reaches Logic).

I've always used the Line6 Gearbox in Logic - it's always recorded whichever tone I've selected in Gearbox... how do I change it so that it doesn't process the signal before Logic?

If you use the Line6 plugin as an insert, it doesn't affect the original audio file.
If you bounce it of course it will print the insert.

Sorry I'm not very technically minded when it comes to recording so please bare with me...

How do you use it as in insert? At the moment I just run Gearbox, choose a preset (for eg mesa rectifier with delay) and record into Logic. The track recorded is the tone I got from selecting in Gearbox - so how would I do it differently where I just have the dry signal?

Put your guitar directly into Logic. When you come out of Logic, place the line six between the audio interface outputs and your speakers. This way you are only recording the dry signal.
