electrical question

In my studio room I have a surge protector for my equipt but the surge protecor does NOT show it's grounded. It's connected to a 3 prong outlet deal but the surge protector light has two lights. One says protected(on), the other says grounded(off) ...anyway I certainly don't want to mess with the electricity and I don't get hums or anything ..I just know it's better to be grounded. I don't know much about it..and would be too afraid to install a GFCI... one of the features of a GFCI in general is that if there is a surge in electricity...it trips the circuit and everything it's plugged into goes off. NOT good for a mac or other equipt to go off like that.?..but it would be grounded.? is my equpit protected ?...I have no idea what the hell i'm talking about and if you have any feedback...i'd appreciate it. thanks

I ended up having an electrician come and redo our electrical panel. Even though the outlet and cabling led to believe we had a ground, there was nothing it was connected to!

I would recommend having someone look at it.

My quote was in the thousands.. :(

Those older houses (my house was built in 1952) really have a crappy electric installation.
