Dubstep Tricks

Postby jonnik » Thu May 24, 2012 3:54 am

Hey
I remember watching a tut on crossovering bass lines in Dubstep but I didn't bookmark it. I remember you should split the bass line into 3 frequences (low, mid, high) and route them to different channels. Low goes to mono, mid and high to stereo. And you make some tweaking. This allows for much more powerful and wider bass sound. Can anyone post a link to such tut?

honestly - i wouldn't get toooo hung up about all this split frequency stuff people often talk about, a lot of people end up pulling there hair out...
It's easier to think -

mono sine sub (probably want the osc to retrigger not move freely)

Then your main character bass over that

then some tops...

A lot of the time people imply splitting the same signal into three bus / aux channels ans processing them and it's probably more hassle than it's worth...

Also - if it's abrasive sounding dubstep that your making the second layer (after the sine sub) is going to have a pretty large frequency range because of the distortion and that....

helps to know what style your really referring to though...

Thanks Rev and thanks rainstick! I am adding various dance styles into rock songs. Dubstep is what I really like blending into rock.
