Poor Man's string upgrade?

Postby guitboy » Sat Jun 09, 2012 6:51 am

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has any insight for me on this problem.

I am scoring a small independent documentary and am not quite happy with the string sounds that I am getting out of Logic pro 9.

At the moment, I can't quite afford to go high end with kontakt and top level string sample libraries, but I would really like to find a good value upgrade to get some better string sounds than those that come with logic..

Any suggestions??

thanks in advance for your time..

EXS version of Kirk Hunter's stuff: http://www.kirkhunterstudios.com/products.html (I've not used Kirk Hunter stuff, but it comes highly recommended).

Or this comes with free Kontakt Player: http://www.bigfishaudio.com/detail.html?845 (I own this, and have got a suprising amount of mileage from it).

IK Multimedia's Miroslav Philharmonik is now cheaper than it was, and it is a definite upgrade from Jampack strings. Only issue is, no 64 bit, yet.

Cheap but decent: http://www.garritan.com/. Plus you get the whole orchestra!

Not so cheap (500 bucks) but very decent:

These have been criticized for being too smooth but their demos sound good to me.
