New SSD for Mainstage

Postby Rhodes54 » Wed Jun 20, 2012 9:54 am

Just successfully installed a Crucial M4 128gb ssd in the HDD slot and moved the Apple 320 GB to the optical bay.

Since my primary app is Mainstage (although I do occasional overdubs with Logic, nothing too hefty), what are my best options for what to install on the SSD to get the best out of Mainstage? The OS and Mainstage only? The instrument libraries and Third Party components? Additional content?
Something about symbolic links? What about the rest of the apps? Can I have some kind of sync'd clone of the SSD on the HDD as backup?

Too many questions, gig tomorrow.

Thanks,

Stewart

It all depends on your work flow, and where you need to get more speed:

Using the SSD for the OS and MS would mean faster boot time and faster opening of the MS app. It also means a bit faster performance of OS X.

Using the SSD for instrument libraries would mean faster loading of MS files and faster streaming of samples (for those libraries that stream samples from the HD).

And yes, either way you could clone the SSD onto the HD for backup.
