iTunes requires QuickTime 7.5.5 or later message [SOLVED]

Postby Blue Monkey » Sat Jun 30, 2012 10:13 am

I'm trying to play a CD of my music and iTunes will not open. I keep getting the same message (see attachment) no matter what I do. iTunes v.9.2.1 and QuickTime Player v.7.6.9 are installed in my Applications folder. My OS is 10.5.8 on this machine.

Even if I just try to open iTunes I get the same message.

Any ideas what is going on?

That's strange, I'm on Snow Leopard and Quicktime goes up to 7.6.6 and you're on Leopard and are on 7.6.9?
You can reinstall quicktime from your OSX disc.

I tried to reinstall from my OSX disc but could not find a custom install that would reinstall only QuickTime.

Doesn't seem like the higher version should be relevant since the message says "QuickTime 7.5.5 or later".

Based on Triplets post I downloaded QuickTime 7.5.5 and all works properly now. I'm not sure why QT v7.6.9 was installed on my machine but obviously it's either not compatible with Leopard or Itunes v9.2.1 or both. Anyway, problem solved!

I'll edit the subject line of my original post as [SOLVED].

Thanks again Triplets!
