First serious club/electronic work

Postby ViolaGhost » Wed Jun 13, 2012 10:38 am

Hey all! Haven't been on in a while... So, I've been messing about for a while, and came up with this electronic/club/dance-type track. Any thoughts/feedback appreciated! It's not quite done, but I think I have all the music worked out, just need to figure out how to finish it.

Thanks a ton for listening!

To me the mix sound's kind of wonk - theres nothing specific Id say ' change that ' it just sounds, overall, a bit wonk... The drums dont really sound that much of a groove, the bass is kind of soft and the top line's really smother everything else (to me)

what kind of stuff were you going for, ? If anything it reminds me of electo indie kind of sounds.....

I'd say its pretty well mixed and has a good amount of nuances. Also the transitions sound really good. The beat is clubby but the melodies have a different sort of feel. I bet they would go great with a slowed down dubby section.

Thanks! I definitely agree that there are... too many melodies here. I'm not sure what you mean by wonk though. I'm gonna try and make the main melody stand out more and play longer.

Its hard to articulate accurately through here... I mean that overall, everything sounds equally 'off' rather than there being a specific element that i can pin point and say ' if you changed X the mix might work a lot better '

Does it sound off to you or not, ? What other electronic music do you listen to (that you would like this to have some degree of similarity to), and when compared to that, do you think your track stands up?

Be honest with yourself.

My advise would be keep going, if this is your first piece just keep writing and it'll start falling into place.... Learning your samples / sound banks is a big one so that you know what to reach for when writing a track and what kind of sound when heard raw is going to sit nicely within a certain style.

you're writing melodie lines as opposed to hook lines is one thing i notice. it too clean and needs some swing or everything will sound like an old drum machine.
generally things need to be bigger and fatter in this genre (more a case of distortion as opposed to compression) generally each sound should be hyped and beyond reality.

If this is your 1st dance tune its a good start. as for mixing the sounds everything fine and each part sits well with each other.

ive only just started using logic, so am in no position to offer any real advice...but i reckon if you made the beats/bass dirtier it would go well with the nice sounds u have there
