programming a pedal to crossfade channel strips? [SOLVED]

Postby L Hall » Sun Aug 05, 2012 6:10 am

I'm new to Mainstage, so bear with me if my terminology is a bit off.

I want to have have two channel strips that are each controlled by the same pedal. Both patches are programmed to receive CC11.

But I want the pedal to have the opposite effect on each of the strips. I want Channel Strip 1 to increase in value while CS2 decreases in value. Is there a way to program this in Mainstage without having to go into the VI's patch itself to reprogram?

Another way to ask this question: Is it possible to program one controller to have different effects on two different channel strips?

Thanks

Okay - I figured it out. I simply dragged a second pedal into the layout using the same input as the first. Then in the edit I simply assigned it as needed. Much simpler than I was trying to make it.

I guess that would work, but there's another way (and I think this is the way they "intended" this to be done) without having to add a "faux" or "ghost" pedal to your layout.

if you have two channel strips in a given patch.

if you go to the "MIDI input" tab, and look at controllers, it'll probably show Input - Expression (11), TRANSFORM, and then Output - Expression (11). So not only can you change cc#s here, but you can transform 'em. Click on the Transform button, "invert" one of the two channel strips. You can adjust the curves for both the channel strips so that you're crossfade works smoothly, or abruptly, whatever you want.

Just an idea :-)

I think that's what I was trying, but maybe I was doing it wrong - I'll try again. Are you using 2.1 or 2.2?

I think maybe I need to go to 2.2 to do that? Not sure.

So - what you do is click on the little "+" sign and that creates a new mapping table. That's what I didn't see before. Works just fine in 2.1.

Thanks very much!
