simmechin
Hi, I'm probably missing something essential, but I've skimmed the internet and read every manual and can't get this to work.. I'm using a 2014 MPB with OS X 10.11.5, MainStage 3.2.4, Forscore 9.4.2, iPad Air 2 with iOS 9.3.2, and my iPad running Forscore is connected via a MIDI network from my MBP. I get my scores in Forscore to send out program changes and switch patches, but not the other way around. At the concert level I have chosen my MIDI network as my device, with the right channel. I have made an external midi instrument channel or whatever it's called, and chosen the right MIDI output and channel. In the MIDI output menu I have checked off send program change with the correct PC #. When I change to this patch, I want Forscore to open the right score. I have setup everything correctly in Forscore. I have checked with a MIDI monitor, and it isn't picking up any midi information from program changes coming from MainStage. What am I missing?! Eric Cardenas
In forScore use the hex code C0 00 for PC 0 in MainStage, C0 01 for PC 1 and so on... You can also use the learn function in forScore to see the messages being sent.
simmechin
Forscore seems to be a bit buggy. Having trouble saving the midi commands, and even when I do - that is when they stick and don't change to 7 0 0 C0 11 for example - they won't respond to patch changes in MainStage. Forscore doesn't recognize midi commands from MainStage when trying to listen either. Any thoughts? Again, it seems like MainStage isn't outputting midi pc. simmechin
And why would I use hex code when forscore supports pc?
Eric Cardenas
Did you try it? It works perfectly here.
simmechin
Actually, it seemed to work at first, but only once. And since it stoppet so quickly, Im actually starting to wonder if my mind switched it around, that I mistook fForscore successfully sending pc to MainStage for the other way around... When I try to get forscore to listen to midi from MainStage, a lang hex code appears, which is strange since MainStage is clearly outputting pc. And again, the code doesn't work.. I've tried several on/offs, so Im pretty much lost.
simmechin
that is a long hex code appears when it DOES work, which is only once every now and then. As mentioned forscore seems buggy, it even has trouble saving the midi commands.
simmechin
Okay, it seems to be working now. I ran through instructions on how to set up a network between the iPad and my MBP again, and I realized I was using the same network I use my my internet connection. I wouldn't have thought the traffic was so intense that MIDI commands wouldn't send and receive properly, but as soon as I created a network solely between my two devices everything worked smoothly. The strange thing is now Forscore isn't acting buggy at all. And it even works on the first network I tried.. Any thoughts as to why? Could it be because of a crowded (not really..) network of some sorts? Or perhaps Forscore has a bug, maybe it doesn't like MIDI commands on a network where other data is being transmitted? Also, could any of you shine a light on the crazy hex code that Forscore made from listening to MainStage? PC 16 on MainStage became: B6 00 00 B6 20 00 C6 10 B6 0B 7F
Maddcow
I recommend that you contact the ForScore guys about these issues. They're normally pretty good about getting back to you.
simmechin
I guess I'll have to to get to the bottom of it. Last time I wrote them nobody answered though, and I had to go a couple gigs without some very useful features. But then again, I could read the manual better.... Maybe I have a tendency to overlook simple stuff, but I feel like parts of the app isn't as intuitive as it could be. Thanks for all the help! Eric Cardenas
Also, could any of you shine a light on the crazy hex code that Forscore made from listening to MainStage? PC 16 on MainStage became: B6 00 00 B6 20 00 C6 10 B6 0B 7F B6 00 00 is Bank change MSB set to 0 on channel 7 B6 20 00 is Bank change LSB set to 0 on channel 7. This is the equivalent of bank 1 on MIDI channel 7. C6 10 is Program change 16 on channel 7. B6 0B 7F is Expression on channel 7 set to 127.
