honeyshape
Is there a way to change the tap tempo average from 2 or 4? 2 taps it to erratic for my inconsistent fingers.
mmm42
Is there a way to change the tap tempo average from 2 or 4? 2 taps it to erratic for my inconsistent fingers. It continues to average after several taps, so you can tap as many times as you want to get a more stable tempo. The averaging stops when you stop tapping for 3 seconds or longer. honeyshape
Thanks mmm42 but.... I've just double check now. I've opened mainstage 2 and they tap tempo definitely averages over 2. Is there a setting that changes this? Am I doing something wrong? I mapped the tap to my Oxygen 61 and also tried it with the cntrl T buttons can someone else confirm? mmm42
I've just double check now. I've opened mainstage 2 and they tap tempo definitely averages over 2. Is there a setting that changes this? It _starts_ averaging with 2 taps, but it continues.
honeyshape
It only takes into account the last to taps, even if I tap it 20 times). If I get time tonight I'll post a video to show you. I've used taps alot on other equipment and it should look like this right?.... Tapping along with 120bpm 116, 124, 118, 122, 120, 119, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120, 120 But in fact it looks more like this... 116, 124, 118, 123, 120, 123, 117, 116, 122, 120, 119, 123 I've searched the manual and cant find anything about it. honeyshape
Edit: The audio got out of sync with the video somewhere in between compressing it and uploading to to you tube. I have removed the video as I think it was just confusing things Edited November 16, 2009 by honeyshape
honeyshape
Bump - Can someone else confirm that mainstage tap tempo only bases itself on the last 2 taps? Or what am i doing wrong?
shivermetimbers
I can confirm your tapping is out of time with the metronome and that will account for the erratic averaging. If you know your tempo, wouldn't it be more convenient to set it in the patch tempo setting?
honeyshape
Yeah sorry, the audio is out of sync with video??? the tapping is in time. As the band are on free time, pre set tempo wont work.

As the band are on free time, pre set tempo wont work. No, your tapping and the metronome were out of time (ever so slightly) and had nothing to do with video sync. As for getting an accurate Tempo by tapping is going to be rather difficult regardless. A live band is going to drift in and out anyway. The time for your midi signal to travel will be out too. Are you doing the tap tempo thing for effects timing?
honeyshape
Not just effect, but mainly delays. I've used taps most my life. It should get more accurate the more you tap but on mainstage (or mine for some reason) it only uses the last 2 taps to set the tempo.
