Problems making pedal or knob change the song

I'm able to get a pedal or knob to be assigned for the screen control of the Paramater Text 3 (So, it toggles between the patches from song to song-But neither the knob nor the pedal change the patch in one motion. The knob has to be turned multiple times to change the patch in perform, and the pedal just seems to cycle through all the patches and land on the same one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Thanks, sorry for forgetting to do that. The info's in my signature now, and I'm working with a novation impulse 49 midi controller with Mainstage 2 on a Macbook pro with OS x 10.6.8.

Which Action have you mapped the screen control to?

Try
For the knob/slider
Current Patch
Current Patch Number
Current Program number (if you have assigned MIDI Program Changes to each patch)

If the pedal is a switch

Hi CCT,

I've tried assigning a knob, slider and pedal (separate times) to control the patch, patch number, and I think program number as well but nothing seems to make the knob work like the ^ or v buttons on my laptop to instantly change the sound I'm using to perform with. It's as though some changes require three turns of the knob instead of just one small twist to make the change.
