Possibility to Simplify Real-time Automation Nodes

Postby eclectic » Tue May 29, 2012 1:10 pm

When recording Real-time track automation (touch and latch mode) in Logic, I've come to realise that Logic creates a lot of Automation Nodes and although it might sound great after a good take. I've found that it is very hard and time consuming to tweak afterwards, as there are so many nodes!

I've already posted a question on the Logic forum, viewtopic.php?t=84263

which shows that there is no function, which can estimate your track automation. The mathematical functions offered in math graphing software tend to estimate the shape of a curve or a straight line very accurately. Although it does all depend on how crazy your automation shapes are and if the estimate curve is close to your original automation. Ski might not agree with me, but I though it might be cool to have functions which could convert a lot of these nodes in to more simplified shapes. Like a "Convert to Curve" or "Convert to Straight Line" function, like Scott Jackson said. As, this could make the tweaking a lot easier.

Yes, especially if this function would also interpolate LSB data into the curves, since most modwheels aren't able to generate this kind of information.

Currently, wherever I hear audible "stair stepping" in the ramps and curves created by modwheel input, I have to go in and manually redraw them to smooth things out. Sometimes this is simple if mostly what's there amounts to a relatively straight line; I just grab a node at one end and extend the line to the other end of the travel. But often the automation is subtler than that and having this feature would speed things up.
